The Etude House Good-Bye Pore-Ever Pore Primer Essence is one of those products that a company is known for. Etude House have a few actually.
It's a great little product at a great little price. It's about 9,500 won where I live in Korea. I've been using it for years. If you use a primer everyday and you spent $40-70 dollars on it then you are going to be going through it pretty quickly and will have to repurchase often. That's a lot of money. This one is much better on your wallet and it's great for every day wear. You can then save your more expensive one for special occasions.
I actually have a whole review up on my blog about this product and also the stick that they used to have which was the same product just in stick form. They don't seem to be making that one any more.
This is what it claims on the box, 'Moisturizing makeup primer masks pores to subdue sebum and improve makeup coverage'. The tube contains 20mls and a little goes a long way.
The essence is your basic primer. it's a slightly thick consistency but it spreads very easy and the tube has a fine nozzle so you don’t end up squeezing too much (as long as you are not over zealous).
I’m only just onto my second tube, the first one lasted me ages as I don’t wear makeup every day.
It goes on very smooth and leaves your skin feeling beautifully soft. I’m not sure how much it minimizes pores, it does help smooth things out but I have quite large pores and you can still see them after application.
It has a creamy lotion like consistency but once blended in it’s not heavy or anything. It blends easily and absorbs into the skin very fast leaving no visible residue. The color of the product is a light peachy color but it goes onto the skin translucent.
I, only really use BB Cream these days so have not tried it with foundation. I have heard mixed reviews from different people. I got it in the first place because a friend recommended it to me and she really liked it. I have combination skin and the only problem I have is that sometimes my nose gets really oily and shiny. The Pore Essence does not help with that issue very much but overall it does help my makeup last longer and helps to give my skin a nice smooth look.
The main thing I like it for is to help to make the skin smooth and ready for the BB Cream which then in turn goes on easier too
Overall this is a nice product that I would recommend to anyone.
I first got into Korean makeup and skincare around 3 years ago and this was one of the first products I ever purchased. I have since used up a whole tube and am half way through a second.
Packaging: The plastic tube is nice and sturdy with some flexibility to it, allowing product to easily be squeezed out. The cap screws on tightly which I appreciate and the little nozzle lets out a small stream of primer. My one gripe with this is that the product seems to squirt out far too easily, you're best to keep the tube stored upside down so that it doesn't drizzle out when you open the lid. I personally think a pump would be the most suitable type of packaging for this product, simply because it's too thin in consistency for the squeeze tube.
Product: For me the product absolutely makes up for the few issues I have with the packaging. The primer is a consistency not unlike that of thin custard, it's also a pale yellow in colour. It's not sticky but does have some tack to it, I've found that the best way to apply is by gently smoothing it over areas and then patting it in. If you try to rub this primer in it becomes thicker and leaves a sort of film on the skin, so pat don't rub and then let it fully sink in before applying your foundation. I like the texture of this much more than other primers of this type. I know people compare this to the Benefit Porefessional but I think they're nothing alike. I hated the Porefessional, it was greasy feeling due to too much silicone and it didn't control my oil at all. This on the other hand just feels like a thicker lotion and doesn't have near as much silicone in it as the Porefessional does. It has a sort of lotion type scent to it, it's not unpleasant and you can't smell it once applied.
Performance: I love this for my oily skin, it softens the look of dilated pores around my t-zone and it definitely helps smooth out slight textural issues. As for oil control this does really well, I would say it definitely prolongs my foundation wear by a good couple of hours which is huge for me because usually nothing can last more than a few hours on my oil slick skin. I pair it with my favourite foundations/BB creams and don't have an issue with incompatibility or the product breaking up. It makes my foundation adhere better, last longer and I can also use this with powder foundations which is a huge bonus! It works just as well as it does with liquid and it means I don't need a separate primer.
Overall: If you have oily skin or even combination skin, then I highly suggest you try this out. It's a beautiful product and the price is too good to not give it a go. I will probably continue to replace this over the years as I'm really happy with how it performs and how it wears with my current foundations.
