I discovered years ago when super into my nails that one rough little, hang nail bit or tiny end of nail caught on something can be the end of the beautiful nail you've been growing out. And nail files became a must. I'm much lazier about my nails these days than I was back then (and thank God, breaking hard grown long nail is less of a disappointment today than back then) but these are super handy to throw in my handbag. And if that annoying snag happens when I'm out and about then I have an emery board to file that tip smooth so it doesn't catch things like my hair or I don't accidentally scratch my face with that sharp tip. You get a whole bunch for under five bucks so when one wears out it's cheap to just throw it out and have a new one in your bag.
Tips: Store in a plastic ziplock baggie so the grit doesn't rub on anything else in your bag or mess up the inside of your bag with nail dust.
