Wow this little product has me impressed to the max. First let me say that I have been using this product for almost a week under a variety of circumstances to give it a good test and I have found it to have come out on top. I use nail varnish a lot as I enjoy playing with colour and I find it an economical way to give me a boost,a way to take time out for me, sort of like a spa day for my hands. I was excited to receive my product especially as it was in a range of colour that I love - red. The shade is lovely, not a fire-engine red but really the tomato shade that it states. It's a really fun shade and I've had a lot of compliments saying it suited me. This surprised me as I thought it was more a young persons colour and being an 'older' person, this pleased me immensely. Now to the nitty gritty of my review. May I state that I have never paid a lot for nail varnish and I wouldn't have thought that paying $29.90 for a bottle would be something I'd consider but having sampled this brand it's changed my mind. The quality is obvious from the first brush stroke. The texture of this varnish is smooth as silk and glides on so easily. It's a very fine texture and doesn't clump on the brush at all. It's easy to apply and goes exactly where you want it so I had no need to clean up any edges as I normally have to do and I believe this is solely to do. Now it says that you can apply one coat which I found did not give enough coverage so it was necessary to do two but having said that, it dried fairly quickly between coats and once the second coat went on it covered really well. With cheaper products I normally have to do three coats so this is a bonus. Also the shine is lovely and stays glossy. Now I've done a lot of different jobs around the house over the last few days giving these nails of mine a bit of a hiding and the varnish did well. A few of my nails had the tips needing attention so I applied another coat to the ends of those few and I was surprised to find that I was able to blend in the new coat and it covered well which meant I didn't have to remove the whole lot and start again. I did this 'quick fix ' twice over the next couple of days and my original coat lasted five days. Now normally if I try and touch up the tips of nails that are chipped or worn it's obvious that it's had another coat on the tips and it's too hard to blend but with this beautiful product it was done easily. Now this is a time-saver for sure. Nothing looks worse than chipped or worn nail varnish I'm quite picky about this and normally have to clean and do a whole other application but not so with Butter London. Now the reason I gave it 4/5 for 'Did it do what it said it would ' was the fact that I found that the application of only one coat was not enough to give coverage, but having said that, the reason for that is the fact that the texture is so lovely and fine that you can forgive this because the benefits of this texture are more than compensated.

I love this nailpolish, the colour was unlike any I already owned (and I own a lot of red nailpolish) with a slight orange hue in the red. It was also the first time trying Butter London which I can only rave about it, as it's so easy to apply and long lasting. Would definitely recommend.
Tips: For best results would recommend applying two coats.
I was lucky enough to be chosen to trial this product, and I honestly think it's really good.
First of all, I like the packaging. The top just pulls off, and then there is a lid you screw off which is attached to the brush- very nice design, the smaller lid attached to the brush makes it easier to use, and the brush seems to be better quality than some other brands.
Secondly, the colour is amazing... If you are looking for a REALLY bright red to draw attention to your nails, this is the product for you! It's a lot brighter than any other red nail polish I have tried, and although it looks slightly orangey in the bottle, it is most definitely a true red. The name is accurate- it is the exact colour of a ladybird!
Thirdly, the application: this nail lacquer was easy to apply smoothly, and dried surprisingly quickly, which was nice. The colour is VERY opaque- even just one thin coat gives a lot of colour, although 2-3 thin coats is the best :) The lacquer has a very nice, shiny, almost gel-like shine to it when dry, and seems to form a nice hard, protective layer on your nails.
Fourth- I have found a LOT of red nail polishes stain your fingernails yellow if you don't use a base coat. However, this nail lacquer did NOT! Also it is no hassle to remove with nail polish remover. (:
And finally, this nail lacquer is very hard wearing, I applied 3 thin coats on one hand with NO base or top coat and it lasted around 4-5 days without chipping at all! On the other hand, I used a base coat, then 3 thin coats of the nail lacquer (and I meant to put on a top coat, but forgot about it), and this extended the life of the polish a tiny bit.
Overall, I really like this product, and would consider buying more in a different colour. It is a little more expensive than what I usually buy (I am a big fan of Sally Hanson, and have a lot of OPI polishes, but I always buy those on special, not full price) BUT I think it is worth it for a good quality polish like this- I would actually go as far as to say I prefer this to my OPI polishes.
Tips: Although not necessary, if you want to extend the life of it a little bit (an extra day or two) you can use your favourite base and top coat with it (:
Butter London nail lacquer comes in a very unique rectangular shaped bottle with a rectangular lid that flips off to reveal a regular style, round twist-off brush lid underneath. A set of these bottles would look great lined up on a shelf. I really did like the bottle and the name of the shade. I notice that this brand has lots of cute names for the different colours in their nail polish range.
In the bottle, the red colour looks quite dark red but it's quite a different red on my nails. The description on the website of a tomato red is accurate though. Perhaps it could have been called Tomato sauce but I guess LadyBird was cuter! It's definitely an orange-yellow based red as opposed to a fire engine or blue-based red.
The consistency is thin which makes it quite easy to apply but more than one coat is needed or else you can still see the 'whites' of your nails. I think 3 coats gave the best finish. It is not a very shiny nail polish so you might need to add a glossy top coat if you are hoping for shiny red nails.
It only lasted for a day on my hands before I got a chip on one of my nails, so it wasn't very hard-wearing for hands. It lasted over a week on my toes.
The recommended price of $29.90 is on the expensive side for nail polish and as it does not appear to be as readily available as some other brands (eg. OPI), I am not sure I would go out of my way to buy it unless it was on sale.
Tips: Apply it near an open window or out in the fresh air as the 'nail polish' smell lingers a lot longer than other nail polishes I have used.
Try the tester in store as the way the colour looks in the bottle is not necessarily how it is going to look on your nails.
Look around at a few different websites to see if there are specials or sales happening. I found one site had a duo of Butter nail lacquers for $20 each, which is a saving of $9.95 per bottle.
I was so stoked to be selected for this trial - I have always wanted to try the butter London brand but have a couple of other red polishes so have never felt I needed a new one. This red is quite different from the others - they are more of a deeper red, this one really is like a pure red, not too orange, not too purple and not too dark. Ladybird is a great name for it.
I really loved that this polish didn't have that really strong solvent smell like other polishes. Normally my husband complains a lot when I do my nails but he hardly noticed I was doing it with this polish.
I don't tend to wear polish on my hands, so I tried this on my toes. I put on a base coat, then two coats of the polish and then a gel top coat. The polish isn't too thick and sticky but still has good coverage, I thought it dried pretty quickly. The brush is a nice flat-ish one however I do like the OPI flat brush a little better.
I've had this on my toes for a week now and it's showing no signs of chipping, only a little bit has worn off where my toenail has rubbed on my shoes. Normally I would have some chipping around my cuticles by now but this hasn't happened with this polish - I think because it's quite a nice thin consistency.
Overall I'm really happy and would definitely consider buying another colour of this polish in the future.
Tips: I needed two coats of this polish to get a nice deep red colour.
Because of the issues I have with practically ALL nail polishes chipping in no time at all I was never going to go out and purchase an expensive brand like this one. For this reason (and others!) I was excited to be given a place on the trial team and had high hopes for this product. My initial reactions were good-the colour was just as it appeared online- a pretty red with a slight orangey undertone. Like other people , I loooove the packaging- very unique with its square lid. The product itself was easy to apply (the small brush suited me as my nails are tiny!). I applied it the first few times at night, using Seche Vite as a top coat and various base coats. Looks pretty and very shiny! I work as a merchandiser in fashion retail and my hands get a pretty hard time. Very soon after arriving at work in the morning the polish started chipping. I was disappointed but was willing to give the polish the benefit of the doubt- my nails are (having done a bit of research!) apparently "oily" so yeah maybe its my genes that are at fault! :(. I also haven't had much luck with Seche Vite in the past as a top coat. One of the times I used it in this trial was because the lacquer wasn't drying very quickly and because I couldn't find my preferred Revlon top coat. This morning I tried using the polish with the Revlon one. I have noticed less chipping. In saying that, it is my day off and I have been lazing about at home most of the day! I would love to try more of these lacquers. In all brands I have more luck with certain colours/formulas and it would be worth trying out different top and base coat combos. They are super expensive but if I find one that works for me I'd probably be so happy I'd be willing to spend the $$! :) Will watch out for sales to trial new colours.
Loved the colour, had a few nice comments from people about the colour.
Went on smooth and had a really nice shine to it, dried quite fast with a very smooth and professional looking finish.
It did start to peel within 24 hours but I didn't use a clear top coat.
Would use again.
Lets start with the fact that I work in retail, so my poor hands get abused everyday. When I put on a polish it normally only lasts a day maybe a day and a half. I got a whole 4 days before it chipped! now this may not mean much to you but for me this was heaven sent!! I found the liquid to be of perfect consistency, sometime a polish is extremely thin so its really streaky and it takes more than the customary 2 coats well BUTTER certainly lives up to my expectations, 1 dip in the bottle a little wipe off and 3 strikes equaled a coated nail, It dried quickly and the 2nd coat went on just as smoothly. I didn't put a top coat on because I never do so for the purpose of the review I did exactly what I always do (no top coat) and well I was surprised that it lasted as long as it did.
All in all I would totally purchase this product!!
Having received this gorgeous polish for my first review I was super excited to try it! I've never tried butter London before and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The polish comes in a pretty rectangular bottle of which the lid pops off to reveal a normal screw top lid. What was even cuter was the little picture of a ladybird with a crown on it the top! I'm not sure if each butter London polish has a different picture but I found this a cool addition! The polish itself was quite thin and did take a while to dry but the colour itself is vibrant and had a shiny finish to it. As my job entails using my hands all day I was surprised to find only minimal chipping on both occasions I used it- one with and one without a topcoat. This is a bonus for me and I would definately consider buying this polish in the future. On the second occasion I used it as a base for some ladybird nail art, and I can say that it lives up to its name- Ladybird is the perfect name for this bright red polish with tomato-like undertones. Just perfect for a pop of colour to cheer up those dreary winter days (and a great summer red too!). A nail polish for all seasons, minimal chip, high shine and bright colour- love it!
Tips: I would definitely use a good base coat under this. I used OPI's natural nail strengthener underneath it the first time, and when taking it off I noticed that it did stain my nails a little bit. It also did take a little while to get off, so be patient with the removal process. I only used two coats, which was enough to give a bright colour, but as this is a thin polish I could still see the tips of my nails through it, so maybe try 3 coats if you want a more solid colour.
Was sent this product as part of a beauty review trial team, and I was expecting it to be a gorgeous, bright red. I was a bit shocked when I applied it to find it was quite red/orange! Not what I was expecting but it is still a gorgeous shade all the same! The polish itself is quite pigmented which is awesome because you could get away with only applying one coat. I opted for two since I didn't have a top coat and wanted a more pigmented, vibrant colour. Since I didn't add a topcoat, it did start chipping within the first two days but I do put this down to not wearing a topcoat, it would probably last a lot longer had I used one. I have had quite a few compliments on the gorgeous colour while at my course :) Bonus! This is definitely my new favourite shade of polish, not something I would normally buy, but after trying it I'd definitely buy it!
Tips: Definitely use with a top coat! And do two coats for a pigmented, more vibrant colour :)
