BYS Lip Tar Review

For serious lip colour with little effort try this BYS Lip Tar (Sunset In Spain).

This mixture between lipstick and lipgloss is a new product from BYS, it has the serious pigmentation pay off of a lipstick but the easy application and long wearing formula of a lipgloss.

This particular lip tar features a warm orange shade that will really make your lips pop!

We suggest to start off small, it has a nozzle tip to control the amount of product you get, and has a precision brush included, so only start with a small amount, spread it evenly over your lips and then build up the colour for a perfect look.

So impressed!

I bought this in 'The Big Apple' (a bright red) in K-Mart after hearing people rave about them on hear and I LOVE it! So worth the hype.

I was a bit wearing as the last glossy red lip product I had used to end up all over the place but this is perfect. It comes in a small tube (perfect for handbag touch-ups!) with a little brush and you really only need the smallest amount to get a huge colour payoff. I'm not normally a lip brush person but this was really easy to apply.

It goes on like a liquid lipstick and dries semi-matte and isn't sticky like I thought it would be so you don't end up getting your hair stuck in it!

I find you do get some transfer when eating and drinking and my boyfriend tends to avoid too much lip action when I have this on! It does last suprisingly well though and it's so easy to touch up.

I am so impressed by this product and would love more colours in it. I have had so many compliments wearing the red and people can't believe how affordable it is. If you see these, buy them quick!

Tips: Line and fill your lips before applying for a really polished look.

lip tar - the big apple (red)

I literally only bought this for the lip brush with the lip tar but after seeing Shaaanxo use this lip tar in one of her recent videos I decided to give it a go and I was not disappointed! It stays on SO well and you really only need about a drop per application. I swatched it on my hand to start with and the color literally didn't come off for two days and when it went on my lips it stayed on for the same, even after eating! It's so smooth and it smells really lovely also. For $3 who can really argue?

Tips: Use the brush, it's a perfect size.

OCC lip tar alternative ?

I tried this product because I thought it might be a cheaper alternative to the OCC lip tar. I was quite impressed with it, as the colour payoff was vibrant it it was so affordable. I tried the big apple and I really liked it, it is a beautiful red that would be flattering on many skin tones. I also tried an orangey colour(I think it was called sunset in Spain) but I did not like it as much. This one applied patchy and uneven on my lips. I would love to try more colours but my Kmart doesn't stock hem all. If you're looking for an affordable red like a slighty glossy finish then this is a great choice. I have to admit the smell was slightly weird, it was minty but with a slighty chemically hint. This product feels good on the lips, and has decent staying powder. It fades to a stain and can easily be reapplied.

Tips: You can build up the colour by applying more, it makes it look more opaque without affecting the quality and the way it feels on your lips.

London High Tea

I got given these by a friend who isn’t really into lipsticks or bold colours – SQUEEL.

I was so excited to try these I had been dying to try the OCC lip tars and when I was given these I couldn’t wait to try them. I have these in London High Tea and Party In Ibiza.

The lip tars come in a little tube like a lip gloss might but you can tell by the colours how super-duper pigmented they are going to be complete with a lip brush. I tried London High Tea first which in the tube looks like a bright purple based pink. I primed my lips first with a lip scrub and then applied a chapstick and let it dry before applying.

These tubes have a little nozzle tip which is fabulous so you don’t end up with a whole bunch of bright colour spilling out all over the show!. You really only need a very teeny tiny amount as these are so super pigmented it’s not funny. One little tiny drop will cover your entire lips – London High Tea colour came out like a very vibrant cool purple/pink in some lights more purple and in others more pinky. I applied two coats but I honestly think you could easily get away with one just depends how vibrant you want to be . Two coats gave a very cool bright vibrant look but one coat is more every day wearish.

It applies very nicely and evenly and has a minty cool feel about it. Once it dries it dries to a bit more of a matte finish.

Wear wise it held on really well, I’m a continual snacker throughout the day (plus tea drinker) so I definitely put it to the test, there is a little bit of transfer but not a lot and it lasted sort of a good half day with eating and drinking before it need a touch up.

I would definitely recommend these and I will be buying some more ! 

Tips: These are super pigmented so you don't need a lot.

Lip Tar by BYS

I went into my local Kmart to have a look. I always gravitate to the beauty section to see if there is any bargains on. In this round there was so many BYS products on sale. I had trouble trying to decide what to pick.

BYS Lip Tar comes in a tube. The colour I chose is a bright pink called Party in Ibiza. It comes in a tube shaped like a lip gloss . There is a nozzle that disperses the lip tar from this tube. This comes with a lip brush. The handle on this lip brush is surprisingly sturdy. The lip brush is quite a sturdy little brush bristles. It comes in a 8ml tube so get a bit of product in a tube.

When I apply this lip tar to my lips with my brush I find that it glides on easily. I like that the tube nozzle hole is small because you can easily control the amount of product that comes out of this tube. It has a very mild minty scent. It has a cooling feeling on your lips. The more colour you add to your lips the more vibrant the colour. The less colour you apply you get more of a lip tint.

Overall with a few uses of this lip tar I found it to be very easy to apply. It was amazingly affordable to buy. I got mine for $4.00 from Kmart. I quite enjoy using BYS products their quite good to use. It lasted me all day. Only had to re apply once.

Tips: Be careful not to get on your clothes it will stain.

Bright color

I had heard a lot about lip tars but from others brands so i was really excited when i saw that BYS had some. I have tried it and first, you need a really really small amount of it to paint the whole lips. Also it is a veeery bright color so it was a bit difficult for me (who don't know how to wear bright lipstick) to work with it. And I also noticed that it had a strange finish on my lips (shiny/glowy) as if i had a really thin piece of plastic bag on it, but it was not abig deal.

Waiting to try other colors

I bought the orange lip tar from my local K-mart. It was on special ($3) so I thought I would give it a try. The tube has a nozzle with a tiny opening in it (and believe me that that is enough to get enough product to cover your lips). The color payoff was good but unfortunately the orange didnt suit me at all so I have only used it once. Definitely will try other colors. Comes with a decent brush so its easy to apply. Lasts for quite a while. Its got a minty smell and gives you a tingly feeling on your lips when you apply which might be off putting to some. Personally I thought the tingling made my lips poutier (haha).

Fingers crossed that my K-Mart stocks the other colors soon.

I would give it a 6 if I could

This was my first time using a lip tar, and my first time trying a coral color, but I'm always up for an adventure. When I opened the box, there was a little brush inside, which I soon found is the perfect size for applying the lip tar especially on my thin lips and is made well. When looking at the directions, it says that a little goes a long way... They weren't kidding!! I started with a drop and put it on. The lip tar spreads beautifully! In total, I think I used 3 drops (it was generous, and my lips were a bit dry). A little definitely goes a long way. No need for priming nor lining as the color sticks well and doesn't bleed.

What also impressed me was the longevity of the lipstick. Even after drinking from a cup, kissing my toddler and husband, and normal day-to-day activities, the color lasts. Even better, it doesn't feel like there is anything on your lips. If this color can stay on my lips for so long, it can stay on anyone's.

Lastly, the color. I picked up a beautiful coral color; not quite red, not quite orange. This is a great transitional color for those looking to go bright as it isn't too in-your-face. It also isn't too matte nor too glossy, and I found it also looks good on my thinner lips.

If they make more colors, I will definitely be buying them all as this is the only lip color that lasts on me.

Tips: Start with just a drop and build up - a little goes a long way!

Amazing.

OCC Lip tars have been on my wishlist for a long time. When I was in Kmart I spotted these and picked up 'Barbados Bikinis' (a blue toned red) and 'Sunset in Spain' (a vibrant orange). To be honest I didn't have high expectations for these.

The packaging looks really similar to the OCC lip tars and comes with a small brush which is really handy. These are incredibly pigmented, so you truly only need the slightest amount to cover your whole mouth.

These have a minty scent to them and tingle your lips a little. They apply like a liquid lipstick and dry into a semi matte formula. I have found them comfortable to wear all day and they only need applying after about 4-5 hours (if you aren't drinking or eating).

I did end up giving Sunset in Spain to a friend as I don't think I suit orange, but I am keen to try the rest in the range.

Try these - they're incredible quality for the price, comfortable to wear and last a long time.

Tips: Only apply the smallest amount! You honestly need a teeny amount as these are so intensely pigmented.

$6.75 worth of pure magic!

One word. Amazing.

These are ridiculously good and ridiculously cheap.

They come in a squeeze tube with a brush.. The brush is fantastic and the tube is going to last forever. A little goes a long way!

They set like a lipstick and are totally opaque and semi matte but still have a luscious look to them.. There is no sticky gloss mess which I think is why I like these so much.

They last relatively well but also do a fair bit of transferring.. I find if you apply it quite awhile before eating and drinking it sets a bit better. However because of the wear and the color pay off the transferring doesn't bother me too much. They generally just need a touch up in the middle - you know when you wear long last lip colors or real rich colors and your left looking like your only wearing lip liner after eating? They wear off kind of like that!

For the price they are ridiculously good and these look incredibly gorgeous on!

Tips: Use the brush provided for the perfect finish and result.. Its actually really good! Also if you find you need more color, keep layering it up. Its not going to get cakey, sticky or grose like other liquid lip colors!
