love!

Totally love this, i now have a collection of colours! i cant get enough! its exactly like the salon! it comes with easy instructions. if you follow them correctly, you have perfect salon quality nails. Which they arent hard btw. i cant praise this product enough! The only downfall, is after removing it, my nails arent in the best condition. but thats the same as ive had in a salon too. so maybe its me :)

Tips: Thin layers are better than thick layers :)

Shiny and super easy!

I'd had a really bad day and decided to treat myself and on a whim I purchased this set from Farmers. They had a deal where you got two colours free so I bought a lovely deep purple and an almost turquoise. They come out super shiny and once you figure out how to get the coats even it looks as good as the shops! I did my toenails too and the light unit actually swivels to make it easier to do things like toes!

I absolutely love it and I've only had it one day.

Tips: Use cotton buds to tidy up the edges before curing under the lamp. Try to avoid getting any polish on your cuticles as it can be quite hard and sore to remove after curing.

Salon nails at home (for a fraction of the price)

I had a Farmers vouvher for my birthday so decided to treat myself when this was on a special. It's super easy to use once you get the hang of it and the extra time spent on application is worth it after weeks of wear. I don't know how anyone DOESN'T gel their nails anymore!!! Buying this costs more upfront but compared to about $40 a pop at a salon pays for itself within a few months.

The small size bottles mean no product is wasted (I find that large nail polish bottles go thick after using for a while rendering the rest of the product useless as it goes thick and lumpy). There is a great range of colours at a reasonable price available.

I love this set and wouldn't be without it!

Tips: Do a few google searches on application tips.

Better to do more thin coats of colour and cure each coat that to do thicker coats.

I find Gelish polish lasts a bit longer (a bit more $$$) than the Gelack polish

It's fantastic!!

I had wanted to get a gel manicure for awhile, but my last salon experience had put me off! I'd seen this kit in farmers and researched it a bit.

I was uncertain about paying $99 for it as the base/top coat retail at $12.99 each and the before after cleanser is only around $5-7, so it seemed like paying a lot for a UV lamp which you can get pretty cheaply. I had read that the frequency of light was perfect for this polish though and I liked that it was timed so ended up buying the kit.

Note, it's best to ventilate the to before starting as can be a bit smelly. I like the smell but it is quite strong so just a warning!

It was much easier to use than I'd expected. I like that you put on a coat, 30 seconds under lamp and you can apply the next coat. No waiting around for polish to dry. It's a weird (and good) feeling having finished with the top coat and wiping with the cleanser and being able to resume normal activities!

The base coat can be tricky to work with, I found some little bubbles. It gets easier when you get used to the consistency.

The colour selection isn't too great (at farmers anyway) and the colours on the bottle differ to the actual colour so I advise googling swatches before purchasing.

I purchased the foil wraps for removal and the removal solution separately. They were reasonably priced, the wraps being $5 and the solution being around same price. The wraps are just tinfoil with some cotton pads inside so it's way cheaper to just cut cotton pads in half and wrap with tinfoil. I wasn't aware of what they were before purchasing!

The removal with the above products was much easier than I expected. I wet the cotton with solution, put the tinfoil things on for around 15-20 minute and it starts peeling off. What doesn't fall off, scrape off with an orange stick.

I am pleased I purchased this, I love having ability to diy gel manis at home. My nails feel smooth and so shiny!!

Tips: Check colour swatches online as tend to differ from on bottle. Ventilate room as can be smelly!

Love Gellack!

I'm a bit of a DIY beauty fiend so was googling at home gel systems for a birthday gift to myself, and came across this through one of the daily deal type sites, picking up the starter kits and a couple of sets of colours for a bargain price. I LOVE it!

Once you've read the instructions and know the steps to follow it is the best, longest lasting, shiny, durable and strong manicure I've had! My nails are incredibly long now as the gel layer stops my usual breaking, and I don't need expensive (and potentially damaging) trips to a salon. The colour range isn't massive as others have mentioned, and they aren't always the same as pictured on the bottle, but there are great colours, and the transparency/opaqueness guide on the bottle is really handy so you know if a polish is full or light coverage. I'm on my third set and every time my mani has lasted 2+ weeks. The glitter polishes work nicely for a funky version of a French tip. It's a shame there is no white polish to do a true French tip though. Because the polish doesn't set at all until you set it under the light, it is really easy and fun to play with different designs and colours without mucking up the layer beneath. Don't like what you've tried? Just wipe it off!

My favourite part of the system is being able to get on with your day (or go to bed!) immediately after you've finished the mani - no more worrying about smudging or being rendered helpless until your nails are 100% dry and hard.

Tips: Really read and follow the instructions until you know what you're doing - it's foolproof as long as you follow the steps. And keep an eye out on sale sites for bargain deals on multi packs of polishes!

Great Money Saver

I've never been very good at doing my nails and this kit makes salon quality gel nail so easy even for a novice like myself. The instructions are simple, the colours are varied and very reasonably priced (I think around $12 a bottle). I have very weak nails but I find once I've done them with this kit, they grow way longer than they would with regular nail polish. They don't last as long on me as they would on others however as I use my hands a lot for my job (usually last at least 10 days chip free) but for friends of mine they can last 2-3 weeks. The only downside is that with prolonged use, they do make my nails quite weak. Because of this, I generally only use the kit for special occasions or if I'm going on holiday.

Tips: Other brands of gel nail polish (such as Sally Hansen) work well with this kit too

Shannon's Rachet Salon

We are open for business! lol not really, I have only done nails on myself so far. For a while, mostly since I had the Superhero mystery shop, I've been quite obsessed with gel nails. I knew I could do better, so I did some research and got this for a wicked price of $50 (it pays to shop around, MightyApe will price match if you find the same price somewhere else cheaper!).

The kit comes with the lamp, a top and base gel polish, and some super handy 'before and after' cleanser, as well as a cuticle stick and a nail file. The lamp is LED apparently, which I've only just found out. I thought it was UV, but this new knowledge has opened my brain as to why my polish chips so easily. And now I feel stupid. And I'm off to cure my nails for an additional minute hahaha whoops. Anywhooo...

You plug the lamp into the wall, and away we go. As I only got this for the lamp, I've only used the polish once. It was alright, it did the trick. I've since bought other brands that I prefer, but in a pinch they worked so I can't really complain about them! The lamp has finger grooves, and a swivel head so if you're brave you can try doing your toes. I am not brave, so I won't be attempting that any time soon.

The cleansing gel is also a saving grace. The polish is quite sticky after it's been cured, so you use this on a cotton pad to wipe, not rub! The stickiness off the nails. Once you've run out, buy isopropyl or rubbing alcohol from the chemist. It works just as well and is also brilliant.

The polish cured by this lamp lasts me a week, but now that I've learned it's LED well, it'll probably last longer if I cure it for the right amount of time! But otherwise this is a really awesome kit, it's cheap enough and I am really glad I've invested in it. A few hours out of my day once every 2 weeks for a home manicure isn't bad at all.

Hi, you mention you have bed. Using colours from other brands. Which ones? I’m not loving the very limited colour range.

Great gel kit

This is a really good gel kit for doing your nails at home. Comes with a little light after you have done your nails a few times the whole kit has already paid for it self. I go mine from farmers some years back. You can slowly add different colours etc to the kit as mostly you want the light. It’s not a huge light rather small. Good home starter kit you will find after you have used it for a while you may like to look at bigger ones and better quality products. Not that there is anything wrong with these but there are better ones on the market. Good starter and great gift

loooove it!

I did my nails using the gellack starter kit yesterday, I've been playing around heaps with normal nail polishes and have used nail polish remover over the gel and it hasn't affected then what so ever. Still shiny as and way stronger than my nails usually are. The kit comes with very easy to follow instructions, and the other products you need that don't come in the kit (remover and colours) are really affordable at farmers :) i will have to re-review after a couple weeks, but so far so good, I love them!

Tips: Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. You can use standard nail polish on top or between the base and top coats.

Just let it dry normally. The base and topcoat will need to go under lamp though :)

Hiya, when you say you can use standard nail polish between base and top coats, do you have to let it dry normally, or under the lamp?

Beautiful Nails

I decided to treat myself to this kit as it was $20 off at Farmers. I got a few colors, reasonable at $12.99. Also purchased the before and after cleanser & both types of removers. It was easy to use, good instructions and fantastic end result. Very happy with the finish, as good as I've had from a salon. Although it's a bit of an initial outlay, it will be better value than around $40 a fortnight for shellac from a salon.

Tips: It doesn't set until you use the lamp so no need to rush, thinner coats are best. Shellac removal with acetone is really hard on my nails so I'm looking forward to seeing how well the oil remover works as it soaks the shellac off with oil & hot water.
