I got sick and tired of my nail polish peeling and coming off literally after a few hours so decided to try Depend Gellack to see just how long it stays on.
Challenge: To keep this polish on my nails for longer than 24 hours
Ease of Use: For a newbie I was actually scared to use it (hence the reason it sat in its box for over a year oops) for fear of 'getting it wrong'. I actually had nothing to worry about.
I read the instructions that were included in the box and followed them to a T. The instructions were pretty clear although they could have been spaced out a little bit better.
The question is, did it actually work? Honestly, yes and no. What do you mean you might ask.
Well, it promises to stay on your nails for 2-3 weeks unfortunately it didn't last anywhere near that long, perhaps I should have added more than 2 coats (will experiment with that concept). So that is the NO part, the YES part is yes it did work and miraculously it stayed on my nails for about a week which is amazing for someone that has their nailpolish come off after a few hours.
The polish actually looks really professional and the colour is really nice especially if you are getting the bright bold colours. I have since purchased a few new polishes to try.
The good thing about this kit is that once you have it, you only have to purchase the polishes and the base and top coats which aren't badly priced. The price of the actual starter kit I thought was a tad high but I managed to get it for half that price, so definitely happy with it.
I had some vouchers for Farmers and had been eyeing this up a few times but just couldn't justify the spend so I bought it!! :)
The kit came with a LED lamp with power cord, the before and after cleanser, nail file, cuticle stick base and top coat everything you need bar the nail colour. I bought a couple of colours as they were only $12 (orange twist and indigo violet).
First I cleansed my nails (they are quite short so I didn't need to file or prepare shape) use a cotton pad and a few drops of the before/after cleanser. I let that dry for about 30 seconds and then applied the base coat I gave the pottle a shake and wiped the brush on the inside of the lid so to only get a small amount. The smell is really strong but I like it it reminds me of getting my nails down properly. These are the cutest little black nail polish bottles. The brushes are small but gave perfect application it was easy to paint on. I plugged the LED lamp on put my nails underneath made sure it was set to 30 seconds ad pushed the on/off button. Just held my fingers then till it finished and on to the next step. The LED lamp also swivels so you would be able to do your toes if you wanted. I applied the first coat of the colour again gave the bottle a shake and applied a thin layer cured with the LED lamp and applied a second coat and cured again. Next is the top coat the top coat is just like the base coat strong smelling and only a thin layer needed followed by another 30 second cure.
Once all this is done I took another cotton pad and wiped the cleanser over each nail. Its instantly dry!. I was really impressed with the finish it was super shiny even and I thought looked just as good as a gel polish from a salon. These lasted two weeks on me without any chipping at all, Im a stay at home mum with loads of washing and cleaning and everything else in between these held up super well. Im pretty sure they would have lasted longer but I really wanted to try my other colour :) On your feet it would last forever !
To remove I used their oil cleanser which was super easy to use, wipe the oil over each nail for about 20 seconds soak in warm water for a few minutes and then scrape off (I used the cuticle stick). It was easy to remove (easier than I imagined). It did leave my nails a bit worse off than they started but certainly no worse than if you got a professional set done.
I absolutely love this I can have nice shiny polished nails all the time and carry on a normal life without having to constantly top up my only gripe would be the lack of colours there isn't a huge range to pick from.
Tips: Be careful if you apply too much base or top coat the LED lamp will get really hot on your nails
