I was lucky enough to be given this product to trial. I like wearing eyeliner. Nothing says 1950s style like a black wing on the eyes. I have tried a few different brands and types of eyeliner over the years, and in various colours, with varying degrees of success.
This eyeliner comes in a blister packet mounted on cardboard, which is fairly standard packaging for Maybelline. The product has a hexagonal shaped pen for easy gripping, and a flexible brush. On the packet it promises “smooth even lines, resists skips and gaps.” The pen itself is completely black with the Maybelline branding in a pink stripe down one of the pen’s six sides. The cap is very stiff, however, and it was a bit tricky to pull off and put back on.
The liner goes on really well. The tip is very flexible, as promised, allowing you to draw very close to the lash line. It also dries extremely fast. Although there was a little bleeding at the inner corner on one eye when I first applied it, the liner dries so fast that there is not much time for it to smudge or bleed beyond that. The liner stayed thick and black without cracking or smudging during the day. It stayed put extremely well even though it is not waterproof. When it came time to remove the liner, it did not come off that easily. I was able to use micellar water to take it off, but I did need to work it over my eye several times in order to completely remove the liner.
Altogether I think this liner is very satisfactory. It is easy to apply, performs well, and does not crack or smudge. I think it ranks right up there with liners produced by higher end brands and that it is a great, affordable alternative to them.
It took me many years to finally master the eyeliner wing and I trialled a number of felt tip liners before settling on my current 'go to'. Well.. Who knew I needed this hexagonal beauty in my life. It really does what it proclaims to do and performed beyond my expectations. The shape provides a more secure grip and the pen glides over the lid with ease, making it simple to produce a wing in one stroke. The colour is intense, although I did have to do a second coat on some days. It dries quickly so there was no transfer of product to my upper eyelid area. It has a magnificient staying power- it did not shift, run or smudge; my maximim wearing time being 14 hours. Removal did take a bit longer but entirely worth it for the longevity and intense colour. I absolutely love this eyeliner and will definitely purchase it again. It is so much cheaper than my current eyeliner (by almost 50%) and seriously out performs it.
Tips: Give it a good shake before application.
