This foundation is a nice consistency. Not to watery, not to thick. it doesn't set too quickly so there's time to blend it out on your skin. I expected a dewey finish with this foundation, as the packaging promises it will energise your skin, but the finish is actually quite matte. One thing to be aware of it that it can go a bit cakey on any dry patches, or if I try to build it up to a fuller coverage foundation. I really like that it doesn't oxidise on the skin and give off any orange tones as some drugstore foundations do.

Reviews
Tips: Be sure you've moisturised properly before using.
Let me start off by saying that before trying this, I hadn't worn foundation for years. I saw all the publicity and great reviews on BR about it, and decided to give it a go. I got it at a great price at Countdown, $22.00, even better! Firstly, the packaging is an attractive blue and glass bottle with a handy pump applicator which I found really easy to use.I have mature dry skin around my eyes and on my cheeks with an oily T zone down the middle. I moisturised well first, and used a primer because of reading some reviews which said it doesn't suit dry skin and can cause dry patches. The texture is quite creamy, you only need a little. I was expecting a more dewey finish but it was more of a matte appearance on my skin. The coverage is really good, it covered skin imperfections and small blemishes. It has a pleasant smell. I don't know about the better skin part, maybe if I use it longer I will notice a difference in my skin quality.
Tips: If your skin tends toward dryness, use a good moisturiser first, you can also mix with a little moisturiser for a lighter coverage. I also used a little bit on the tops of my hands well blended in, and found that it covered brown freckles and even those annoying blue veins some people get.
This stuff is magical, I was so sceptical at first but bit the bullet and bought it. I LOVE it.
I havent had to wear concealer in the time that I've been using it. I find that it covers my scarring (ugh pimples) well and doesn't feel heavy at all on my skin.
I like that it stays put all day when set with powder and would only need a minor powder touch up to take you through from day to night. My only tip would be to apply without a primer, I found that when I applied a primer before the Betterskin foundation i had some caking between my brows. After a day of trialing applying direct to my bare face it sits wonderfully.
This is definitely my new holy grain foundation. I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up against a NZ summer and a holiday in Perth.
Thanks Maybelline :)
UPDATE! Still obsessed with this stuff and onto my second bottle. its got amazing coverage for my skin and im finding the more i use it the more my skin adapts to it and is less dewy by the end of the day! Definitely my new holy grail!
Tips: Apply directly to your skin for better coverage, primer is not your friend in this instance :)
After all of the hype surrounding this foundation I decided to go out and buy it for myself. At around $32 from my local New World - it seems to be a very affordable, easy to find product. I brought it in the shade "sand".
I have super oily, acne prone skin, and I found that this product applied really well using a stippling brush. It gives a good day to day medium coverage, and I applied a little extra with a concealer brush to scars/ red marks.
I love that this stays on all day, without making me look like an oil rig. For the first time ever I have not been using powder over my foundation and it is still sitting well with my skin.
I will say that when I applied acne cream the night before (leaving me with a slightly dry patch on my chin), that the product did look a little flakey in that area. I think this would possibly not suit dry skinned people.
I haven't noticed any "Better Skin", or clearer skin as such... However I think this is a great day to day, work wear type foundation that is affordable and does the job.
I was thrilled when the my parcel arrived, and must confess to being a little sceptical as the foundation I wear is my one little luxury and costs me $85.00 a bottle. The Maybelline bottle arrived and the packaging is very sturdy in a glass bottle with a strong blue plastic pump-action top and light plastic cover. The packaging is attractive and the size convenient. The pump is set to squeeze out exactly the right amount. The foundation is easy to apply with excellent coverage and leaves a light matte finish. (I use a few drops of Trilogy rosehip oil in mixed in with my moisturiser and it did not affect eiher the application or the staying power at all). The colour is perfectly suited to my skin tone. The finish lasted a full day without a thought of reapplying. I am sold on the Superstay Foundation. I have no idea if it actually hydrates the skin but it certainly appears to be an improvement! Thanks for selecting me for the review and opening my eyes to a fantastic new product!
I picked this up recently at The Warehouse for $33 (bargain!) after hearing some good reviews. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting to like it. I have tried Maybelline foundations before and haven't been very impressed. This one though! I have been reaching for it every day since I purchased it - even more so than some of my high end foundations.
It goes on nicely, although you need to work relatively quickly with this product. It has a really nice finish, definitely more matte than dewy. Even though I find this sets really nicely, I still use a little powder just to make sure it really goes the distance. This foundation does a pretty good job of staying put as well, by the time I get home from work it still looks really good and doesn't go patchy or look cakey - it even still looks pretty good after work AND a gym session.
I also usually get product quite noticeably sitting in my 'smile lines' after an hour or two and this foundation does this much less than others.
What really surprised me about this product though was how easy it was to remove when I went to take off my makeup. Considering that it is a long wearing foundation, it came off so easily! I have tried double wear (which I find Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin is comparable to FYI) and it is so so SO hard to remove. This, however, is not.
The only downside for me is that I found the shade range on offer seemed to run a bit pink. The shade I ended up going with does match me quite well, but I am used to foundations with more yellow undertones - although I can pull off neutral.
Overall, definitely worth 5 stars and I will be repurchasing.
Tips: I find this starts to set fast, so make sure you work quickly and do one area of your face at a time, rather than dotting all over your face and then blending out.
Normally I have a huge problem with “drugstore” brand foundations, as I’m very pale, porcelain actually and find that the lightest shade normally results in me looking a little tangoed (orange faced). However, BRAVO!!! Maybelline the ivory shade in your new Superstay Better Skin Foundation has not left me in such a state, in fact it’s a perfect ivory shade, it’s left me skin looking very natural and blended into my neckline seamlessly.
Application was superb, the glass material of the bottle wasn’t slippery due to the labelling, which meant I had no trouble in holding it as I applied the foundation. The pump action was flawless, distributing just the right amount to cover my face in 2 pumps. The size of the product is on par with others on the market for similar price range.
Formula wise, the liquid foundation is thick enough so that when you apply to the back of your hand (if you’re using a brush or sponge) or directly onto your face, it doesn’t run away quicker than you can blend it in, but not thick enough that it doesn’t blend evenly. I found that with trialling it in 3 different applications (brush, sponge and fingertips) that it work perfect each time, personally I favoured the sponge as I have dry skin and a slightly damp sponge always ensures that I can achieve a flawless complexion while keeping the dryness at bay.
I have trialled this using it alone directly onto a freshly cleaned, toned and moisturised face and with a primer, finding that in both instants I ended up with very similar outcomes, so for the benefit of testing the claims of better skin I used for the remainder of the week without primer. I do suffer from the odd break outs, even though I am generally dry skin, I do get slick spots around the T-Zone. The best thing I found with this foundation is that it felt as if I didn’t actually have it on, I never suffered any flair up and it kept my oily zone matte throughout the day.
The only downside I experienced was transfer, it didn’t smudge but it did transfer a little onto my coat in the morning, and I lost a bit of coverage around the nose area after blowing it, the white tissue test proves all. But I think with the addition of a setting powder or spray, which I normally wear but didn’t to test this product, I think that it would stay on all day without transfer.
I note that this is claiming to give perfect skin in just 3 weeks, however I started with pretty damn near perfect skin thanks to my skincare regime so I really can not comment on this claim =)
I remember watching Shaaanxo's video where she trials Estee Lauder Double Wear, and ten hours later you can see where the foundation has gone off and where it stayed on - this has exactly the same quality for me.
Let's start at the beginning: I received this in a comp from Maybelline in the Shade 005 - Light Beige (the lightest shade).
The bottle is super sturdy (glass) with a blue, plastic pump. Give it three or four pumps initially to get the foundation out.
The formula isn't smelly, it's quite thin (but not runny) and it gives medium to full coverage - which I love! I love the lightness of the foundation. It doesn't sit heavy on your skin like most full coverage foundations. I wear a primer underneath and a powder on top (nothing fancy, just a plain L'Oreal primer and a Jordana pressed powder) and it literally stays from 7am to 10pm - and you can see the spots at your hairline where it started to come off.
Seriously? Seriously.
But wait, there's more! (I'm starting to sound like an advertisement - sorry!) It also doesn't..... *drumroll please* oxidise. Yay! The colour you apply is the colour you end up with at the end of the day. It doesn't change.
Now, the cons of this product is: You can't use it on dry skin. If your skin is flakey in any way - it will show and you will look awful. Over the past week or so my skin has dried out (heaven knows why) and I haven't been able to use this foundation. I have pores on my nose, and if you don't use a blurring primer the foundation sinks into all those spots - so watch out for that.
Overall, I do love this foundation and the incredible things that it does definitely outweighs the con's. The price is good! (Thank you, Maybelline! Someone said it cost $78 and I was like what? You can buy MAC for that price! But luckily it's not.)
Will I repurchase? I think I'll have to go a shade up for summer - so yes, I will repurchase.
Tips: I apply it with a flat top brush, two pumps covers my whole face.
Application & Finish: In my opinion this foundation is a little streaky, the first time I used it I applied it with just my fingers and the finish this gave was noticeably (to me at least) streaky and uneven. I now apply it with my real techniques expert face brush and this gives me a nice even satin finish. It also works really well with a sponge applicator (e.g. a beauty blender) but just a brush is fine. Something I noticed with the foundation was that when my skin was kind of dry and flaky (I have combination skin, so mostly it’s oily but sometimes I get dry patches) the foundation looked quite cakey and accentuated the problem. However, I was on holiday and hadn’t been using my face scrub, which I think was part of the problem. My advice: Don't skip regular exfoliation and moisturising if you want to wear this foundation.
Lasting Power: My skin can be quite oily and I have to say I wasn't that impressed by the “Superstay”s staying power. I didn't really notice my face visibly going shiny while I was wearing it, but rather that when I went to take my makeup off at the end of the day there was barely any foundation left to remove. I haven't tried it with a primer, as I don't have one, maybe that’s my issue?
Coverage: The coverage is, in my opinion, quite light. It doesn't look as perfect on as I might have hoped, and I think it should definitely be paired with a good concealer for dark under eye circles, blemishes, and scarring. As I said I've never worn a foundation before but thankfully this foundation doesn't feel heavy or cakey on the face (except for in the instance I mentioned earlier).
Shades: The shade range is mildly disappointing as there are no very pale shades or shades for dark skin tones. I wear the shade Light Beige 005, which is an okay match for me but is a bit too dark. It’s the lightest shade available in the range and it really isn’t all that pale/fair.
Claims: In my experience the claims of better skin weren’t true. The foundation didn’t cause me to break out or anything but I didn’t notice any improvements to my skin while using this. Like with any foundation, you’re better off not wearing any makeup if you want your skin to get better.
Overall Impression: It's an okay foundation but it's not great For now I will continue to use this foundation but I don’t think that I’ll repurchase it when it eventually runs out. Would I recommend it to others? If you have a normal skin type and are okay with a light coverage then, yeah.
Tips: Apply with a brush or beauty blender/equivalent. Make sure face is clean, exfoliated, and moisturised.
