I usually wear reasonably natural shades of lipstick, no bright reds or purples for this girl, but I thought I'd try something a bit different and went for the "Voyager" colour to try. Packaging was nice enough, anything that shows the colour of the product rather than just a plain black/white etc container is a win in my book. I did have problems with the applicator, especially the bow on my top lip, and discovered just how quickly the product set making it difficult to wipe away the over-run. But once I was happy with the application I was very pleased with the results. The colour was more intense than I would usually wear but after a while decided I quite liked it, and definitely was fond of the matte look. It didn't feel tacky at all and I was very impressed with the wear time. It lasted all morning and didn't start to wear off until later in the afternoon when it was eating time. I found the outline lasted all day, but the inside did need a touch up after eating. All in all I was really impressed with it, and would definitely look at purchasing more of the more neutral colours at the other end of the range.

Apply liquid lipstick to the centre of your upper lip and follow the contours of your top lip. Then, Glide the liquid lipstick across the entire bottom lip. Ensure you allow the product to dry. Tips: If you need to make any corrections after application, get on to it quick smart because it sets very quickly.
Highly impressed with this product, awesome color , goes on smoothly and stayed on really really well, when it did finally wear off it faded naturally looking which I thought was great, love this lip ink
The lip stain comes in a square shaped rectangular barrel which feels quite substantial to hold. The colour on the package is not the same as the colour inside. I was sent Pioneer to test and whilst it looks like a bright red it was in fact a beautiful cerise colour. The colour is stunning. It is very opaque and I only need one coat for a gorgeous even layer. Initially it looks glossy but over time as it dries it gets a little darker and matte.
The colour isn’t streaky and is very pigmented. It doesn't dry out my lips at all and once it dries it doesn't budge but lasts all day! The wand applicator looks like a teardrop and has a slight divot in the middle to allow the product to actually get on the brush and then the lips. The hole in the centre holds extra product for filling in. The applicator is elongated with a pointed end, making it easy to line the lips first. Overall I like it, but I find it hard to accurately outline my lips. I use a lip brush to give a more definite line. The point on the end of the applicator makes it easy to get a perfect Cupid's bow shape. perfectly. I apply a thin layer of product to start, having initially wiped any excess product off the applicator and then wait for it to dry - about 5 minutes. Then if I want a more intense colour I apply a second layer with small strokes of the applicator. At first the formula appears to be very glossy, extremely thick and heavy when applied onto the lips. All that disappears once it is fully dried with the colour drying down to a matte finish. It is very light, comfortable, and completely matte. The colour is very opaque and highly pigmented. When dry the lipstick looks lovely. It is a velvety matte, and stays put for several hours - even went out to dinner and it didn't budge. I did apply mine after using a lip moisturiser, and I believe that helps with application and lasting power!
My lipstick is gorgeous. It looks like a very deep red rose with violet undertones coming through. It has beautiful coverage, is long lasting, and dries down almost completely matte. It doesn't crease, crack, or have any build up issues. and best of all - no colour bleed! Because the stain sets so well it is not simple to remove. I use an oil based cleanser (Lipidol) and this is quite effective. Any residual stain can be a problem if using a light lipstick the next day.
One of the great things about this lipstick is that there is no transfer - in other words my coffee mug was not wearing lipstick when I was finished with it! It would be helpful to have a card attached to the product listing the contents and giving instructions for the best way to apply.
I recommend this lip stain for those who like a matte ‘out there’ lip colour and who want their lipstick to last all day. To be effective lips need to be in tip top condition.
Tips: Use an oil, micellar water or waterproof makeup remover to remove this product as it can be difficult to remove.
Very nice vibrant colour taste pleasant which is always a bonus but is quite sticky and for the superstay part not the greatest as wen ever you come in contact with a glass or food or whatever it may be this this lipstain does leave marks and stains whatever it was you may have touched easily removes with make up remover did keep colour on my lips for most of the day but the stickiness was a real downfall as I'm not one to apply lip gloss every 5 minutes and if you are them this stain could be perfect for you as I said really nice vibrant colours just not a product for me
Tips: Wear gloss with it
As I post this review it is mid-afternoon and I have just finished eating an apple and am knocking back a coffee. A quick check ensures my lips are still looking amazing.
I'm sold and will be repurchasing this product in 10 years time when it runs out (because you only need one good application per day) and will be buying it in other shades - yes it is that amazing!
So, here's the low down... the packaging is simple but nice. A rectangle cylinder the colour of your Lip Ink (in my case Lover) which has a matte feel and look and a smooth white lid. The Lip Ink itself is neither thin nor thick in consistency and smells nice with a hint of vanilla. The arrow applicator is well made, quite stiff to start with but becomes more flexible with use.
And the product itself - well - as I said, I trialed Lover which is a pinky plum colour. You do need to be quite precise with the application, no slapping this on! Careful strokes because if you go over the lines it is hard to get off. This stuff sticks! It sticks so well that I have trouble removing it at the end of the day and in desperation have attacked my lips with eye makeup remover, nail polisher remover was also a consideration, that is the staying power of this stuff!
It applies glossy but quickly dries down to a matte finish and if applied carefully gives your lips a really nice definition that lasts until bedtime. It's nice to wear, not at all drying like some matte lipsticks and is not sticky. If you are not a full on matte person you could easily layer this with lipgloss as the transfer is minimal.
I can't recommend Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink enough and it is a true bargain for the superiority of the product at the $22.99 price point.
Tips: Use a lip brush if you don't have a steady hand and avoid using if you have dry lips. You will also need a good makeup remover!
OK, so when this claims to be 'super stay'... It is not joking! I had worn this from 7.30am-6.30pm, and after work and I needed to get it off quickly.. using my favourite Garnier Micellar water and a cotton round, I began to try and remover said matte ink from my lips.. Honestly by about 2 minutes it had not budged, I was wishing I had the nude colour DREAMY.. I got #50 VOYAGER.. I managed to get it off but I was in a brief panic mode! (I now know to use oil based micellar water)! That being said, I absolutely love this stuff! It's like it's a bottle of lip ink magic.. How on earth is the formula matte yet not at all drying on my lips? How is the formula creamy and yet able to dry so fast? How is it that after eating breakfast and lunch, drinking coffee and performing general day tasks, I have still got this on without needing a touch up? So. Many. Questions!
Now let's get down to the nitty gritty.. The tube feels rather matte itself not smooth like other products and is already the colour of the shade, so super easy to identify if you are lucky to have more than one.. It's definitely a generous sized tube with 5ml instead of other liquid lipsticks I have which are smaller. The arrow shaped applicator helps in drawing the perfect cupids bow, the pointed tip is really great for getting to the corners of the mouth properly too. It has a hole on it so you never get too much product on the applicator, thus never having too much on your lips. The formula is lovely and creamy and as I said before.. Man does it stay put!! I love the scent of it. I have been trying to nail down what it smells.. I guess it's like a sweet vanilla cupcake! All in all I feel like it is definitely worth the money!
Tips: Have oil based micellar water handy as it dries quickly.. Also, blot on tissue to remove residue/stickiness and set. Best advice: BUY IT!! :)
I have the shade dreamer and really love it! It’s a gorgeous pinky nude and it is truly a matte lip ink! This has a really nice big doefoot applicator with a hole the middle to store product which makes it super easy to put on and line and full in your lips in one go. I applied at 8am and it stayed STUCK on my lips until needing an oil based makeup remover to take it off at 6pm. The only down side to this lippy is it stayed sort of sticky pretty much all day. It was a little bit annoying but for a lippy that lasted all day, it’s s small price to pay. With being so matte it also did sort of emphasise the lines on my lips and gave you that inner lip line. Overall however, I would def recommend this lippy!
Tips: Try out a lip liner first if you ar enormous as confident and have an oil based remover on hand for afterwards!
I've tried a few matte lipsticks now and each time I was left wondering what the fuss is all about. All they've ever done for me is shrivel my lips up so that I look like I've been sucking on a lemon. After eating or drinking, the middle of my lips would be bare, leaving just an outline that had inevitably bleed. I've tried lip liners and primers to try to get them to work, to no avail. I just came to the rather sad conclusion that mattes are for younger lips than mine.
So when I was sent this to trial, I really had zero expectations. I have been pleasantly surprised. This works. This works on me! Application is an absolute breeze. I'm not the greatest at lining lips but the unique arrow shaped applicator on this means I get a near perfect outline every time (be sure to follow Maybelline's instructions for using this). Whilst this still has a slight tackiness to it even after it's dried, it never transfers. I drink tea constantly throughout the day and this never transfers on to my cup. Nor do I see lipstick on the food that I'm eating or on my chin afterwards. This is a revelation! I do reapply it after eating as it does fade slightly but evenly. No dreaded outline or bleeding lips. Or worst still, sand paper lips.
I chose the colour Lover which is a lovely pinky nude. I've worn this on no make up days and it just gives enough of a pop of colour to make me look more 'put together'. This does require an oil based cleanser to get it off. I do notice that I need to use more lip balm at night after I've removed it and my lips do feel drier the next day than normal. Whilst I will always prefer a satin finish lipstick, this is so great for busy working days so I don't have to worry about reapplying or finding lipstick all over my face, cup, paperwork etc. I would recommend this to anyone who is still unsure about mattes. This maybe The One for you too!
Thanks again Beauty Review for the chance to trial this product.
I received this matte lip ink in the colour "Lover". It is a bit pink with a touch of purple. It is a bit different to what I was expecting but I am a bit of a lippy fanatic so its all good.
This lip ink comes in a 5ml square tube. The outside colour is similar to the actual product and it. The applicator is oval shaped and has a hole in the middle of it. It is hard, not like a foam applicator which makes it really easy to outline your lips, then fill them in. At this point I will say you do need to be quite careful doing your outline as this lip ink really, really stays in place. So, if you do make a bit of a mistake make sure you have something to wipe it away as soon as possible.
Once you have applied that is it. For the day. The whole day. Lips done.
I drank coffee, water, ate breakfast and lunch, went to the gym all without worrying about my lippy. Amazing!
I will be buying more colours to add to my collection.
This may well be the last lippy you buy, it will last an age.
I absolutly love the formula of these. They have pretty good staying power even though they do tend to fade a bit depending on what you're eating or drinking. And they aren't overly drying for your lips. I have extremely dry lips so I don't wear a lot of liquid lipsticks because they can be kinda harsh on your lips moisture. But surprisingly I don't have any issue with these. And I love this color, Creator. Its a beautiful plummy purple.
Tips: Exfoliate and moisturize your lips as you would with any other liquid lip
