OK, so when this claims to be 'super stay'... It is not joking! I had worn this from 7.30am-6.30pm, and after work and I needed to get it off quickly.. using my favourite Garnier Micellar water and a cotton round, I began to try and remover said matte ink from my lips.. Honestly by about 2 minutes it had not budged, I was wishing I had the nude colour DREAMY.. I got #50 VOYAGER.. I managed to get it off but I was in a brief panic mode! (I now know to use oil based micellar water)! That being said, I absolutely love this stuff! It's like it's a bottle of lip ink magic.. How on earth is the formula matte yet not at all drying on my lips? How is the formula creamy and yet able to dry so fast? How is it that after eating breakfast and lunch, drinking coffee and performing general day tasks, I have still got this on without needing a touch up? So. Many. Questions!
Now let's get down to the nitty gritty.. The tube feels rather matte itself not smooth like other products and is already the colour of the shade, so super easy to identify if you are lucky to have more than one.. It's definitely a generous sized tube with 5ml instead of other liquid lipsticks I have which are smaller. The arrow shaped applicator helps in drawing the perfect cupids bow, the pointed tip is really great for getting to the corners of the mouth properly too. It has a hole on it so you never get too much product on the applicator, thus never having too much on your lips. The formula is lovely and creamy and as I said before.. Man does it stay put!! I love the scent of it. I have been trying to nail down what it smells.. I guess it's like a sweet vanilla cupcake! All in all I feel like it is definitely worth the money!
As I post this review it is mid-afternoon and I have just finished eating an apple and am knocking back a coffee. A quick check ensures my lips are still looking amazing.
I'm sold and will be repurchasing this product in 10 years time when it runs out (because you only need one good application per day) and will be buying it in other shades - yes it is that amazing!
So, here's the low down... the packaging is simple but nice. A rectangle cylinder the colour of your Lip Ink (in my case Lover) which has a matte feel and look and a smooth white lid. The Lip Ink itself is neither thin nor thick in consistency and smells nice with a hint of vanilla. The arrow applicator is well made, quite stiff to start with but becomes more flexible with use.
And the product itself - well - as I said, I trialed Lover which is a pinky plum colour. You do need to be quite precise with the application, no slapping this on! Careful strokes because if you go over the lines it is hard to get off. This stuff sticks! It sticks so well that I have trouble removing it at the end of the day and in desperation have attacked my lips with eye makeup remover, nail polisher remover was also a consideration, that is the staying power of this stuff!
It applies glossy but quickly dries down to a matte finish and if applied carefully gives your lips a really nice definition that lasts until bedtime. It's nice to wear, not at all drying like some matte lipsticks and is not sticky. If you are not a full on matte person you could easily layer this with lipgloss as the transfer is minimal.
I can't recommend Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink enough and it is a true bargain for the superiority of the product at the $22.99 price point.
Tips: Use a lip brush if you don't have a steady hand and avoid using if you have dry lips. You will also need a good makeup remover!
