I was super excited to try this - a matte lippy in such a fab red shade. First application was tough - you need to be super precise and I felt a little like a kid raiding her Mumma’s make up. It took me a fair while to apply and I think I ended up putting too much on because it dried a bit weird. Very matte, which I loved, but a little sticky at the same time, and heavy towards the inside of my lip. It did last for ages though - most of the day and through eating. It did cling to dry bits on my lips though. But staying power is definitely up there. Second time I used a lip scrub before hand and it went on a little easier. Used less this time and went more smoothly. Still didn’t really like the feel on my lips so I added a smidge if creamier lipstick on top which gave me a really nice finish and it lasted all night. Overall, I’ll definitely persist with trying it because it’s a great colour and stayed put, but I wasn’t in love straight away.

Tips: Definitely use a lip scrub before using otherwise it clings to the dry skin. Apply carefully and sparingly the first few times. Use a lip liner and add a little lip balm or a smidge or a creamier lippy on top.
Okay so I have been a big lover of this whole matte lip game for awhile so I was super excited to try this one out. The formula is so great and the colour is super pigmented and it wasn't patchy and lasted the whole day no issues. So that part was a win, unfortunately I found the applicator super hard to use. It's straight, thin and not very flexible and I could not for the life of me get it on perfect. After several attempts and a pile of cotton pads I ditched the applicator all together and used my lip brush which was fine. I tried it again with the applicator another day which only led to more frustration and some self doubt. However I wear lipstick everyday and don't have this problem with my usual brand so I assume I can't be the only one. it's a shame because the formula is really great but all the fussing about with the brush is a deterrent and I haven't used it since. I think with all the competition for liquid matte lipstick out there the whole package has to be bang on for me to pay it any attention.
Matte lipsticks are usually super drying and cracking but this is not the case. It dries fast but is still super moisturizing and extremely long lasting. Plus a gorgeous shade!
I have used so many expensive products that offer the same benefits and for the price, this product wins! You definitely have to let it dry but that doesn't bother me. Overall will definitely keep buying.
I’m sold. Take my money and give me all the colours! Firstly this looks like several of my glosses, only it’s Matte! The want is similar to glosses... but it’s matte! And easy to use. Colour is intense, reasonably easy to apply, but be careful or quick with remover. It lasts! Seriously long. I put it on at 8am and was still getting compliments at 8pm, with no touch ups. I drank 2 coffees and 2l of water... not a mark on the glass/cup! Ate lunch, snacks, had dinner... barely made a dent. Non-drying, and not super matte, just good. Colour is really intense. I chose #45 Escapist, and it is an intense dark dark purple, nearly black.
This baby will last and last. I’m going to buy some brighter, lighter colours. Definitely worth, once a day application... unthinkable, but Super Stay, does it!
Tips: Be confident or have clean up handy in case of smears
I was trying out the matte lip ink in 'Lover'. It was a different kind of colour to what I would generally wear, but I felt like shaking things up and being a bit more adventurous. I started off by exfoliating my lips to ensure a smooth finish. Firstly, I really liked the smell of the product - always a plus when it's so close to your nose! The product was not as thick as I'd expected and the applicator was a different shape to the norm. The lip ink applied in a consistent, smooth line. The applicator was easy to use and get precise lines with. I really loved the colour and it set quickly. The best part was that it wasn't sticky at all. The colour was long lasting and didn't need too many touch ups. I was easily able to add a little bit of lip balm later to give a little gloss for a slight change of look! I'm already planning which colours to get next.
Tips: Well moisturised and exfoliated lips are a need to ensure the best application and finish.
I was curious to try the Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink, as I haven't used mattes as an everyday lip feature before. The 5ml container fits ok into the hand, and has a white lid that might get a bit discoloured as time goes on. The arrow applicator took a bit to get the knack of, but seemed to work well. I did the v first then followed the contour of my upper lips, then slicked across the bottom as suggested. It does only take a thin layer. I really like the colour "Lover" & it has a nice, almost vanillary fragrance. I think I might be a shine rather than a matte girl, as I felt my lips looked a bit flat. The colour didn't last as long as I'd hoped. I most likely wouldn't purchase again but perhaps it's just getting used to the matte look?
Wowza - this lippy stays put... just like pink or red ink!
Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink comes in a nice tube - which is slightly squared so easy to hold and grip when twisting. So NO slipping and sliding. Plus the coloured bit is matte, reminding you that the lip ink is matte too. The applicator is a lovely petal shape - felt nice to apply to my lips.
My "Dream" coloured Lip Ink smelt divine - a bit vanilla-y even.
The lip ink is nice to put on and not too thick. I didn't have to use too much product but you do need to cover the lips fully so the look is complete eg. not too much forgiveness for a quick application.
True to its name it is a matte ink but not overdrying like some matte lip products. I liked outlining my lips in pencil first, but you didn't need to.
The best bit was that Matte Lip Ink lasted and lasted. Even after dinner out I still had lovely defined lips. When it came to removing I had to also use a good makeup remover, not just my normal cleanser.
I would definitely recommend Maybelline Matte Lip Ink to a friend - especially for a night out, photo session or long work day! It is a great lippy at a good price. I'd buy a light shine eg. not matte too if Maybelline were to make one because this product stays put! Awesome!
Tips: A makeup remover is a must for removal! Exfoliation helped too.
I absolutly love the formula of these. They have pretty good staying power even though they do tend to fade a bit depending on what you're eating or drinking. And they aren't overly drying for your lips. I have extremely dry lips so I don't wear a lot of liquid lipsticks because they can be kinda harsh on your lips moisture. But surprisingly I don't have any issue with these. And I love this color, Creator. Its a beautiful plummy purple.
Tips: Exfoliate and moisturize your lips as you would with any other liquid lip
I usually wear reasonably natural shades of lipstick, no bright reds or purples for this girl, but I thought I'd try something a bit different and went for the "Voyager" colour to try. Packaging was nice enough, anything that shows the colour of the product rather than just a plain black/white etc container is a win in my book. I did have problems with the applicator, especially the bow on my top lip, and discovered just how quickly the product set making it difficult to wipe away the over-run. But once I was happy with the application I was very pleased with the results. The colour was more intense than I would usually wear but after a while decided I quite liked it, and definitely was fond of the matte look. It didn't feel tacky at all and I was very impressed with the wear time. It lasted all morning and didn't start to wear off until later in the afternoon when it was eating time. I found the outline lasted all day, but the inside did need a touch up after eating. All in all I was really impressed with it, and would definitely look at purchasing more of the more neutral colours at the other end of the range.
Tips: If you need to make any corrections after application, get on to it quick smart because it sets very quickly.
I chose the colour "Voyager" to review. It is a dark red with berry undertones. The packaging is true to colour and looks very chic.
The wand applicator is shaped in a point with a hole in the middle to hold product. It is firm and not too fluffy, which helps give a clean application. The tip also gives precision and I did not need to use a lip liner.
It has a sweet, fruity-caramel scent which is not overpowering. The colour was very opaque and covered my lips in one swipe.
It took a while to dry down and was sticky for a few minutes, but eventually dried down to a matte finish. It is not crumbly and stays on very well with no transferring. It did not remove with micellar water, but came off easily with an oil cleanser.
I would like to try other shades in this range.
Tips: Use the edge of the applicator to get a smooth, clean line.
