I love mascara, i mean who wouldnt to be honest when it does so many things for your lashes. So this was going to be an interesting review considering im used to certain brands of mascara. Packaging: Love the shiny tube im like a magpie and drawn to it immediately. It is the same usual maybelline tube that we all know so no change there. Brush: Thankfully the bristles are not as large as i thought they would be, which makes for easy brushing on the lashes, the wavy wand however made me wonder what that was for? Formula: Very black which i love, easy to wipe off immediately when you make those pesky errors, clumps quite quickly if you apply too much and you get spider lashes. It comes off well with both facewash with makeup remover as well as with Micellar Water. A Little bit fibery when removing so just be careful where that goes, especially for contact lens wearers. Durability: lasts pretty well, but not as much as the old benefit mascaras would. Volume: Definite Volume increase, however im a length kind of gal so it took a few goes before i could get it how i wanted. Overall: Good cheap mascara for everyday use! Probably would buy in a hurry if needed but not a preferred choice.

I have very straight eyelashes that are short and sparse so I need a lot of help with my lashes and it’s hard to find mascara that I fall in love with. This was pretty average in my opinion. The product it self was nice and wasn’t too clumpy for me but the wand I didn’t really like as I prefer a curved brush rather than something like this one. The brush itself is also quite big and chunky for my eyes and eyelashes so I really struggled to keep it off my eyelids and it was basically impossible for me to apply on my lower lash as they are super short.
My natural lashes are relatively straight and downward pointing, and not super long and full, and I always have a hard time finding a mascara that really holds a curl. I had been a Japanese mascara that was nice and black and able hold the curl in my lashes so I was excited try this one and hopefully find one that is easier to get a hold of.
This mascara comes with a cone-shaped brush that is slightly tapered at the end and wavy bristles which claims to "hold and load the collagen-infused formula". The bristles held on to a good-amount of mascara so that I didn't need to constantly scrape any excess off. The wand brushed through my lashes easily and they did a really good job at separating my lashes so they didn't stick and clump together. However, I do wish that the wand was just a bit smaller because although the end of the brush was tapered, I found that it was still a tad too big for me to get into and coat the inner corner lashes really well and I had to be super careful to not get mascara on the eyelid.
The formula of the mascara was not too wet and dried down relatively quickly after application. My lashes were darker and thicker after one coat and there was minimal clumping. But I didn't see any noticeable effect on lash length. I wore this for at least 8 hours a day, and did not experience any flaking or smudging, and the mascara still came off relatively easily when I used an oil cleanser.
This mascara was able to hold my curl, however if I did not wait for it to dry before using a make-up setting spray, then the curl did fall quite a bit - not all the way back down to their natural state, but enough to be noticeable.
Overall, I am pleasantly surprised and would definitely use it again.
Tips: One coat gives decent coverage, but definitely use a second coat if you are after a more intense effect.
As someone with not exactly the longest lashes in the world, a mascara that boldly announces itself as with words like "colossal, big and volume" instantly has my attention.
The mascara comes in a large gold tube and has come similarities in appearance to other mascaras in the colossal range. I like the gold and purple packaging better than the previous yellow and purple colossal mascara. I think it looks more stylish. However, as someone who has gone to mini mascaras in order to have a slight chance at finishing them in 3-6 months, the size felt like a colossal waste of space and I personally would love to see Maybelline bring out a mini version.
But to the product inside, the mascara is in the shade blackest black and the shade is nice and dark. The 'big shot brush' used to apply it is really just like any mascara brush at the end of the day, but it works to apply the mascara and that's what matters.
I personally used more than the one coat that was advertised to get that full effect. But once the mascara was on it stayed on until I was ready to wash it off. I use rosehip oil to remove my mascara and had no issue with that.
I've always felt Maybelline was the go to brand for drugstore mascaras and this mascara is another in a strong range. For me the only thing Maybelline could do to improve is bring out a smaller version, if their mascaras weren't so big, I'd probably use them all the time. But for people who aren't bothered by that it's a winner.
Tips: My biggest tip would be multiple coats from lash root to tip.
Thank you BR for allowing me to trial this mascara!
I have really straight lashes that are a pain to get curled but this mascara was able to do this with out making my lashes look clumpy. The packaging is quite a bright gold which is good for when I loose it among all my other makeup. It's quite sleek looking. The wand scared me at first as it is big and i thought that might lead to the product going every where but i was wrong! it goes on smooth and i found it easy to get my bottom lashes. It stayed all day and i didn't get any flakes through out the day. Who wants to look like a bit of a panda at the end of the day? not me.
Overall Id definitely think about buying this mascara! It's nice and affordable
Tips: Use a gentle makeup cleanser.
I’ve been using more expensive mascaras for years now and this mascara didn’t make me change my mind. I know a lot of people swear by Maybelline mascaras, but I’ve tried a lot of types and they’re just not working for me. This one promised so much volume, yet it doesn’t voluminise my lashes at all, all it does is coating them nice and black, but it doesn’t lengthen them or make them look fuller. I really love how black it is though, it might sounds stupid, but there’s a difference between black and black and this mascara is very very black! I like my lashes separated and this clumps a tiny bit, so need to make sure to separate the lashes that stick together. It doesn’t smudge throughout the day though, which is fantastic, since I work around ovens a lot, so melting my makeup off wouldn’t be too surprising. It’s not a bad mascara for the price, although the prices are climbing higher and higher for Maybelline mascaras, but definitely get them on special if you can!
Wow! This product promises full lashes with one coat and DELIVERS! Packing is an attractive colour. Brush feels comfortable in your hand and the mascara really does goes on easily. I have very sparse and thin eyelashes and one coat is all it takes for a completely natural day look. I added another for even thicker more dramatic lashes for my night look and loved the look. Product has no chemical odour and as someone who cries very easily, this mascara does not rub easily and does not sting in the eyes! All over really happy with this product.
Tips: Comes off easily with Micellular water and also with a regular face wash.
This is a handful of a tube, and the wand is a funny shape but it does exactly what it says. The bristles are like a tiny wire brush so you have to be gentle the first few uses so you don’t scratch the edge of your eyelid, but once you use it a couple of times you get used to how to apply without catching yourself with the brush. You also need to apply the second coat before the first is super dry as it is hard to do otherwise, but two coats look like a short set of false lashes, and give plenty of volume. I really like this product, doesn’t flake, holds up well for 16+ hours, isn’t really thin (I often leave the lid of new mascara for a day to dry them out a bit so I don’t end up with daddy long leg lashes under my eyes from too wet mascaras) so it doesn’t transfer to either your eyelid or lower eye and washes off easily with cleanser or micellar water.
Tips: You can keep applying coats for en evening look, or just stick to 1 or 2 for daytime
I was very excited about this mascara when I first opened it, but unfortunately was a little disappointed.
The brush is straight so no curves but the product comes out very thick and clumpy when applied to the eyelashes. There is a lot of product that comes out on the brush but almost too much that I have been using a different mascara wand but in the Maybelline The Colossal to stop the clumpiness.
It does add volume from the tip to root but too much that it gives that ‘spider’ mascara look.
Will keep looking for my next fave mascara!
Tips: Try using the same product but with a different wand to minimise the amount of product that gets applied
This mascara comes with a hefty tag line to live up to "Colossal Big Shot", I liked the purple and gold packaging - very glam. The pictures on the packaging had me hopeful of having lush lashes when using this product. The mascara has a very faint scent which I liked, and the product didn't seem gluggy on the brush when I first took a look at it. Using it for the first time I noticed that the bristles are different lengths over the whole area of the brush, and there are some bristles that are quite a bit longer than the others. While this feature is great for getting the maximum amount of mascara on your lashes, the longer bristles are very sharp, and are unforgiving and very unpleasant when you accidentally poke yourself in the eye while applying the mascara. Overall coverage was great, the mascara looks like it could be quite heavy on your lashes with the way it clings to the brush, but it is light and you don't even know you're wearing it (till you look in the mirror at your fab lashes!). This mascara lived up to most of it's hype, my lashes look thicker and longer, I don't know that I would buy it again though, purely for the fact of how sharp the bristles are.
Tips: Don't poke yourself in the eye with it!
