I’ve been using more expensive mascaras for years now and this mascara didn’t make me change my mind. I know a lot of people swear by Maybelline mascaras, but I’ve tried a lot of types and they’re just not working for me. This one promised so much volume, yet it doesn’t voluminise my lashes at all, all it does is coating them nice and black, but it doesn’t lengthen them or make them look fuller. I really love how black it is though, it might sounds stupid, but there’s a difference between black and black and this mascara is very very black! I like my lashes separated and this clumps a tiny bit, so need to make sure to separate the lashes that stick together. It doesn’t smudge throughout the day though, which is fantastic, since I work around ovens a lot, so melting my makeup off wouldn’t be too surprising. It’s not a bad mascara for the price, although the prices are climbing higher and higher for Maybelline mascaras, but definitely get them on special if you can!

I've used a lot of different budget mascaras but Colossal Mascara always seems to be my base when judging how other mascaras go onto my eyelashes. It's been in a market for years now yet nothing can really compare to it, i'd recommend it for people who want that visible mascara look to add more depth, a bit clumpy- not really for a someone who wants a natural eyelash look. The wand and the formula is a great combination for that nightout look.
This mascara is good for so many reasons. If you like thick and luscious lashes then this is for you. I love the thick brush its very easy to apply the mascara and picks up a lot of product so have to re dip less. I have purchased mascaras double the price and they are less effective. I actually always have one of these on the go and usually use it to the bitter end. Can get from most supermarkets, chemist and department stores for approx $20-$25 so its very affordable. I don't tend to use a lot of Maybelline products but I really like their range of mascaras.
Tips: When it's getting to near empty add a couple of eye drops to mascara and it resurrects it and get a lot more out of it.
The Colossal Big Shot Volume Express mascara in shade 223 Blackest Black
I am always suspicious of mascaras that promise me loads more volume. Most of them just seem to have a brush that gets saturated with product, and the 'volume' part is just that you got a lot of mascara on your eyelashes, or it's clumpy.
To some degree this is the case with this product, but it does look nice on my eyelashes. The mascara applies quite easily, you don't need to brush and brush to get a good coat on, just a couple of swipes and then do the littlest lashes.
The brush is the kind I usually avoid - fat and bristley. Usually I get the ones made of plastic with fine teeth because it lets me get into the corners. I was surprised to find this brush actually still works to get into the corners and get some paint on the small lashes.
I'm not a great fan of the tube, it seems unnecessarily bulky.
As I usually wear waterproof makeup that takes some rubbing to get rid of, it was nice to have a washable mascara for a change. I wore it on the weekend when I wanted a lighter amount of makeup. It washed off easily in a warm shower, and didn't streak down my face.
All in all, I liked this mascara more than I expected to. I am interested to know if it will get clumpy as many of these kinds do that quite quickly.
This mascara comes with a hefty tag line to live up to "Colossal Big Shot", I liked the purple and gold packaging - very glam. The pictures on the packaging had me hopeful of having lush lashes when using this product. The mascara has a very faint scent which I liked, and the product didn't seem gluggy on the brush when I first took a look at it. Using it for the first time I noticed that the bristles are different lengths over the whole area of the brush, and there are some bristles that are quite a bit longer than the others. While this feature is great for getting the maximum amount of mascara on your lashes, the longer bristles are very sharp, and are unforgiving and very unpleasant when you accidentally poke yourself in the eye while applying the mascara. Overall coverage was great, the mascara looks like it could be quite heavy on your lashes with the way it clings to the brush, but it is light and you don't even know you're wearing it (till you look in the mirror at your fab lashes!). This mascara lived up to most of it's hype, my lashes look thicker and longer, I don't know that I would buy it again though, purely for the fact of how sharp the bristles are.
Tips: Don't poke yourself in the eye with it!
My natural lashes are relatively straight and downward pointing, and not super long and full, and I always have a hard time finding a mascara that really holds a curl. I had been a Japanese mascara that was nice and black and able hold the curl in my lashes so I was excited try this one and hopefully find one that is easier to get a hold of.
This mascara comes with a cone-shaped brush that is slightly tapered at the end and wavy bristles which claims to "hold and load the collagen-infused formula". The bristles held on to a good-amount of mascara so that I didn't need to constantly scrape any excess off. The wand brushed through my lashes easily and they did a really good job at separating my lashes so they didn't stick and clump together. However, I do wish that the wand was just a bit smaller because although the end of the brush was tapered, I found that it was still a tad too big for me to get into and coat the inner corner lashes really well and I had to be super careful to not get mascara on the eyelid.
The formula of the mascara was not too wet and dried down relatively quickly after application. My lashes were darker and thicker after one coat and there was minimal clumping. But I didn't see any noticeable effect on lash length. I wore this for at least 8 hours a day, and did not experience any flaking or smudging, and the mascara still came off relatively easily when I used an oil cleanser.
This mascara was able to hold my curl, however if I did not wait for it to dry before using a make-up setting spray, then the curl did fall quite a bit - not all the way back down to their natural state, but enough to be noticeable.
Overall, I am pleasantly surprised and would definitely use it again.
Tips: One coat gives decent coverage, but definitely use a second coat if you are after a more intense effect.
I love the packaging of this product, the tube is nice and eye catching and easy to hold. The brush has short rubber bristles which usually I dont like however this one is a little different, the bristles aren't as densely packed so it's easier to coat lashes. The formula is nice and very opaque black and coats lashes throughly with one swipe, also very easily coats lower lashes and really lengthens them. The formula does not run, I have cried, sweated and rubbed my eyes and it does not budge. Is easily removed with a makeup cloth and water. I will use this mascarra again.
Tips: Dont rush application, formula is quite liquid so can get messy in a hurry!
you can never go wrong with a Maybeline Mascara and this one is my favourite. Great black colour, nice brush, easy to apply, dries fast. All you need in an everyday favourite.
I love Maybelline mascaras. I brought this one as I'd heard mixed reviews and I loved the original colossal mascara and the original falsies so thought why not. Lovely bright container means it's always easy to see in my overcrowded makeup bag. I love the brush shape, it looks plushie and gets into all my hard to reach lashes. Applies well and makes my lashes look amazing and full. I feel like it kind of wears off a little through the day...it doesn't smudge it just kind of dulls a little. The formula I tried from Farmers was the non waterproof one as I couldn't spot one there that was. That would be my biggest issue as I get a little teary if it gets windy and is possibly why I have the issue of it dulling throughout the day. I find it cleans off super easy when I wash my makeup off at night and doesn't leave a buildup. This too is possibly because it was the non waterproof option and I am very used to using a waterproof mascara. For a jon waterproof mascara I feel it does a pretty good job. If I can find the waterproof option I will try and update my review.
Tips: Make sure your lashes are clean before applying any mascaras. A lot of people don't remove all of the previous days products and it doesn't let the mascara live up to it's full potential and do what it needs to do. Also don't pump your wand in and out vigorously...it dries out the product quicker and puts more than you need on the wand.
I have been using this mascara for about the last 3 months or so and have finally got around to writing a review about it.I had big expectations on this and unfortunately it did not deliver for me.I found the formula was thick and made my lashes clump so most of the time I would have to wipe some of the mascara off on a tissue then apply to my lashes.I did find that my lashes had a bit more volume after two or three coats of this and it seemed to work better than any other mascaras in the maybelline range but colour wise, the black barely stood out on my lashes and it looked like I was not wearing any mascara so that was disappointing. This mascara tends to dry out quickly too but I did not notice any flaking or smudging and it was easy to remove at the end of the day and I just used my regular facial wash. For a day time mascara this works ok but it's not something I would use again for a night time look.
