When I first saw the Mellow Matte Lipsticks I was drawn to the shade Nude. It was on my wishlist. Luckily when Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales came I was prepared this year with a bit of money to splurge and so treated myself to several of their liquid lipsticks, their tinted brow gel and the Matte Lipstick in Nude. I love this shade it's such a pretty my-lips-but-better pinky nude. I've seen it on a variety of skintones and I think it looks great on anyone from really fair to tanned skin, maybe not if you're really dark. I haven't seen it on really dark skin yet. It's a very versatile shade good for everyday basic nude makeup look and also looks lovely paired with a smokey eye. The tube it comes in is this beige tube with gold writing and the middle, it looks alot like Macs lipstick tubes except in beige and gold instead of black and silver. The tube I got had a scratch on it but it's minor and not a big deal at all. The lipstick has the Mellow logo imprinted on the lipstick which looks good in my opinion. Now for the formula. The pigment is pretty good, not the most pigmented lipstick in my collection but in no way the worst. I do find that this Nude lipstick gets like maybe two percent more pink within like ten minutes of applying it. Now as far as the formula feels it's not creamy, it is a matte lipstick so that's possible about why it does feel more dry on the lips. If you're lips have lip balm or moisture underneath it's fine but if you don't, it's doesn't feel as good. I did try a few times without lip balm applying this just to see how long it would last. I got a couple hours out of it. It does give a little bit of transfer but it is a nude color so it's not really obvious. Quality wise I think the closest lipstick I can compare it to in my collection is my Chi Chi lipstick although it doesn't feel as dry as my Chi Chi one does after a few hours although that could be because it's faded by then. Fading for me isn't an issue with this shade though because it's a nude color so it doesn't look bad at all. I do think that if I were to use the apply blot, apply blot and apply and powder technique I would definitely get more wear out of it. But with nude shades and on a day to day basis I don't pull out my translucent powder and powder brush for lipstick. I do like that this is a NZ brand and their Lip Paints are seriously some of my new faves and the stars of their makeup line in my opinion, but that means this take a backstage to their liquid lipsticks. I would keep this in my collection but I think that Nude is almost identical my Mac Twigg lipstick which is my absolute fave to go nude lippy. Twigg is just a tad more warmer and Nude is just a bit more pink. But I've worn one on my top lip and the other on my bottom lip and really I couldn't tell the difference. So I will be gifting this gorgeous shade to a friend.

Mellow Creamy Matte Lipstick (all shades) Review
Mellow Matte Lipsticks are highly pigmented, richly formulated and long-wearing. The formula glides on smoothly, leaving a velvety-smooth, moisturising finish.

Tips: The Nude shade is good dupe for Mac's Twig so if you don't want to shell out forty bucks for Mac consider this to be a good option. If you do wear these lipsticks I do recommend having a lip balm underneath since it'll be more comfortable. This shade doesn't look as obvious when it fades, but if you want it to last longer you can use the reapply, blot and powder technique I mentioned in my review to get more wear time out of it.
I received one of these as a gift, in a vibrant pink shade. Unfortunately bright pink lipstick just doesn't work for me, but I gave it a few goes before reluctantly giving it away, just because the color didn't suit me. Such a shame I felt, as I love Mellow Cosmetics, and the packaging of this lipstick is awesome! A sleek matte pastel bullet case with a hint of gold, pretty!
This is one hard-wearing lipstick. The formula is quite dry (non too creamy), but it's non-drying on your lips. The pigment is strong and vibrant, and the finish is super matte.
Everything about this lipstick is high quality. Definitely recommend Mellow lipsticks, and would happily pay $20 for.
I picked up a Mellow Creamy Matte Lipstick in the shade Blossom in the 2016 Beautiful Christmas Advent Calendar.
This isn't a colour I'd ever choose for myself, but I don't mind it on, though I don't reach for it too often. It's a darker coral tone, and I'm normally more a berry shade kinda girl. I do get compliments on it, so it must suit me on some level!
The lipstick comes in a soft beige bullet shaped case with gold accents; a classy little package.
The bullet itself is emblazoned with the mellow logo, and is nicely shaped and finished. The formula is a bit drier than the 'creamy' name would suggest, and it finishes matte, but does transfer. These are highly pigmented though and do offer a good stain, so lips stay tinted. The matte finish isn't super dry, and the mouth feel is mid way between a true matte and a standard lipstick.
These aren't perfect, but it's nice to see a kiwi company coming out with on trend makeup options.
Loving this mellow ultra matte lipstick
It comes in a box with gold writing and the colour sticker on the end is the same as the lippy I feel some lipstick can be a bit misleading.
It applies easily and the first time I put it on I was sold. I've noticed a few different reds popping up in my makeup case but this is a new favourite it just seems to pop.
I don't really feel like I have a lipstick on which is great it does how ever feel a little drying like I need to put some thing else on my lips sometimes.
After a few days wearing "Danger Zone," I felt like a total badass sultry babe, This pinkish-red bullet lipstick is unlike any hue I've found- almost indescribable colour. It suits my fair pinkish skin but it isn't a red-blue tone. It has a tangerine tinge but definitely not orange. This pigment-packed lippy evades characterisation and I totally love it. It would be fascinating to see DZ on different skin tones and see if it is one of those universally-flattering lipsticks. The tube is sleek in stylish mushroom brown with gold accents (a gilded lily so to speak),
Tips: Be careful handling the tube as it is easy to smudge and stain the light-coloured tube.
This lipstick come in a typical lipstick tube shaped like a Mac lipstick. A nice shape, one that I prefer.
The actual lipstick I feel is the most pigmented one I have used for a number of years, that is a real plus. I found the colour is true to the description on the website so was very happy when it arrived. Electro was my colour of choice. I found it rich and creamy with a smmoth matte finish and not at all drying. It glides on seemlessly.
It lasted a good few hours without having to be retouched which for me equals good value for money.
Tips: Mellow lipsticks are fabulous to wear and come in a number of great shades, there will be one to suit everyone.
I don't usually use bullet lipsticks, so getting one as a gift I was kinda like... ahhh... thank you... very nice... Luckily, it was in a gift set to myself than from someone who was watching me open it eagerly, so there were no hurt feelings.
I really like the packaging. The matte beige bullet with the strip of gold screams high class. It feels good quality in the hand and looks really pretty sitting on the lipstick stand. The lid pops off easily, but sits securely so there should be no issue with it coming loose in the hand bag. The bottom turns, like most bullet lipsticks, and the colored wax enters the light.
I can’t remember what color I got, but I remember knowing that it wasn’t a shade I liked or thought I suited. However, that didn’t stop me from applying it and wearing it around the house. I didn’t notice any smell, which is great because I absolutely hate badly scented lipsticks! I did think it was very creamy and incredibly pigmented though, but I didn’t really notice.
I also didn’t think these were really matte either, I thought it transferred easily. Without eating or drinking the lipstick lasted quite a good amount of time, but it did need to be reapplied in the middle of the lips. I’d probably repurchase after looking at shades in store, but otherwise I prefer other lippies!
Mellow Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in "Passion" arrived as my day 24 gift in the 2016 Beautiful Christmas Advent Calendar, and is a beautiful mid-pink colour packaged in a classy looking 3.8g matte beige bullet with gold trim. The formula of the lipstick is not as drying as I thought a matte lipstick would be (this is my first matte lipstick. I usually avoid matte because of them being drying and not moisturizing).
Mellow's matte lipsticks are highly pigmented, so they give a rich colour with a long-wearing formula that feels velvety smooth upon application and have an ultra matte finish yet still retains a surprisingly moisturizing consistency that I find doesn't dry out my lips. When applied properly, like all lipstick should be (a thin layer rubbed into the lips, blotted (optional with matte), and then another thin layer applied), I found that it lasted hours without needing to be retouched, and even when it did start to wear off, the colour stain still remained.
I'm not sure if this lipstick is creamy matte or ultra matte, as the packaging I received seems to be a little confusing. The gold printing on the side of the pale beige box says, "Mellow Ultra Matte Lipstick", yet the little sticker on the bottom of the bullet where the colour name is just says, "Matte Lipstick", and I've read reviews that others have written saying that this is a creamy matte lipstick and not a true (ultra) matte lipstick, and when I search for "Passion" on Mellow's website, it pops up as one of their Creamy Matte Lipsticks. Either way, it has a matte finish, and is not drying.
I'd definitely recommend Mellow's Matte Lipstick, as it's comfortable to wear, has good pigmentation, and does not leave lips feeling dry and flaky.
Tips: Apply a thin layer, rub your lips together to work the colour in, and apply a little more, if necessary.
I recently purchased this in the shade New York; liking both the colour and the name.
I had previously tried Mellow's liquid lipsticks and was curious to see how they standard lipsticks compared.
I have always preferred bullet lipsticks as they can be quicker to apply and less likely to dry out your lips and these things stayed true with Mellow.
The colour pay off on this lipstick was still good and the deep colour looked lovely on. It did find it slightly more gritty than some other lipsticks I have, but not majorly so.
I also found it reasonably priced and would consider buying another shade in future.
A while ago a friend had recommended Mellow cosmetics and I had never heard of them before. I was curious as it was a New Zealand company, I ordered 2 Matte lipsticks and 2 eye shadow singles. The lipsticks I chose were Candy floss which is a bright barbie doll pink, and Nude which is a pinky beige nude colour. When I had purchased these they came in black rectangle lipstick bullets, now they have changed the packaging which makes the look very professional and sleek.
Both lipsticks have a similar consistency, soft and creamy to apply, it glides on thick with no patchiness and is not drying. I wouldn't say it is a completely matte shade as they both have a slight visible shine to both when applied. I like to apply these and dust some loose powder over the top to make these completely matte. These are the most non drying matte lipsticks I have tried so far.
The wear time is pretty good, if I dont set with loose powder these can survive eating and drinking. After 4 hours the middles of your lips need to be touched up.
I will be purchasing more, these are great inexpensive lipsticks and very underrated!
Tips: Apply a loose powder to give a complete matte finish as these are not fully matte lipsticks.
