So far, these are the best drugstore liquid lipsticks I have used, but they're still not perfect. I have the shades Antwerp, Sydney, Tokyo, Istanbul and Buenos Aries. The formula is slightly different with all of them. They do apply super smooth and soft, they are a joy to apply and feel really luxurious. The lighter pinks (Sydney, Tokyo, Istanbul) dry fastest, and can look a little dry and highlight any chapped areas, so you have to exfoliate really well for these to look nice. Buenos Aries is a light peach, and dries to a slightly nicer finish than the pinks, but can wear off a little patchy. Antwerp is the best out of the ones I own, it dries to an awesome matte finish and doesn't highlight any dry areas, which is nice. It is the darkest of the ones I own, a dark pink with a touch of red/orange. I think the darker shades in this line will look nicer for a longer time. However, they do all dry very matte, so if you have well exfoliated lips and are looking for a really matte, highly pigmented liquid lipstick, these would be perfect for you. For the price as well, these are pretty amazing quality.

Tips: Exfoliate and prime/moisturise lips before applying to get the nicest finish.
I think I discovered these because I wanted to buy LimeCrime, but didn't want to pay the big bucks for something I wasn't sure I was going to like. After hours (maybe an exaggeration) of trawling the internet for dupes and swatches I came across these, and I purchased my first color from eBay after much mental debate. So far I have gotten my little hands on four of the shades from NYX. I have and will be reviewing: Ibiza, Antwerp, Prague and Copenhagen.
I'm amazed. I've never owned a matte anything, except nail polish which hardly counts here. The formula is smooth and creamy and it slides on easily with the angled applicator. Leave it to dry and it goes matte on your lips. And I've found it lasts all day (although I didn't eat much that day and drank through a straw). It lasts a while, though!
They smell so good, like sugar cookies or candy or something. The tubes they come in are cute too, I really like how they're packaged. I find that Antwerp and Ibiza (both pinky kind of colors) highlight where my lips are chapped or just not nice looking. Prague, a dark fushia color, and Copenhagen, a dark purple, do not highlight the chapped lips, but they cover it.
Copenhagen, being as dark as it is, probably needs to be dried after the first application before you apply another one. It doesn't go as opaque as the others, and is darker in some places other than others, and that's really frustrating.
Overall, I'm in love with these, and I'm probably going to buy more. It's the only product I've ever bought that I've had more than two of, at any one time. Its a really fun obsession!
Tips: Definitely exfoliate those lips before using these! And for added helpfulness, I always use a light dab of lip balm underneath. I find it helps the lip cream go on smoother.
I have the San Paulo colour. Bottle is nice & matches my others. I like how the top has a slight rubbery texture. When I do makeup & moisturiser, my hands can feel slightly greasy.
Open and apply. WOW all I can smell is butterscotch or hokey pokey!!! YUM!
It glides on nice and smooth. The colour is very pigmented. Rub lips together and they just glide.
The price is fantastic. I find the quality is worth more than the price point. Just means you can afford a few more :)
I find the feel on your lips is more drying than a gloss (to be expected). Feels like it sets kind of.
I love the ease of application. The applicator head is soft and easily applies the right amount of lip cream.
Tips: A must have when you don't want bold
I am obsessed with matte lip products, they are my absolute favourite and I wanted to jump on the matte liquid lipstick band wagon as soon as it became popular but I didn't have much luck with them. Australis Velour Lips burnt my lips and made them sting/itch like crazy! MUA Velvet Lips were far too dry and uncomfortable for my liking and those popular ebay Lime Crime dupes never dried down and stayed uncomfortably sticky. So when my friend gave me one of these NYX ones I was very, very sceptical but boy was I pleasantly surprised! These last up until you eat, any oils will deteriorate the formula but that's okay, I don't find these hard to remove so it's easy enough to reapply. The NYX formula isn't overly drying, you can still mush your lips together without it flaking off and it smells AMAZING. I do find that the shade I have needs some building up as it's not very opaque but the formula is thin enough that you can easily layer it. I am super impressed by these and already have a list of the other shades I want.
These are some of my favourite lip products. So inexpensive, but so good!
The packaging is nice - I don't feel like it looks or feels cheap, despite the small price tag.
These also smell really good! I personally find yucky smelling lipsticks really off putting and end up giving them away or throwing out.
I love that these are matte, but don't dry my lips out. They still feel quite creamy, they are so easy to apply and glide on really smoothly and without any chunky bits (which I have experienced with some other matte lip creams from other brands).
There is a great colour selection to choose from as well. I find the staying power of these quite good - if you aren't eating and drinking up a storm you will be fine. I do find after eating they definitely do need a touch up, but it is no hassle to do so as these remove easily and can be reapplied.
Tips: I like to use the applicator tip to outline my lips then fill them in.
Got this in a haul with my friend from Cherry Culture.... I like my other NYX lip products so thought would give a go as have never tried mattes and was excited for the coral colour I ordered. When applying, I could instantly feel how drying it was! It showed all the fine lines in my lips and the colour did wash out my complexion. Really didn't like the feel on my lips and left an usual taste (not like the yummy butter glosses).
Tips: Maybe to exfoliate your lips and put a balm on before applying would improve appearance?
I loooove these!! I got on the NSMLC bandwagon after seeing so much about them online. I initially ordered one in a gorgeous soft pink shade called "Milan" (I love how they're all named after famous cities). When it arrived, I was really pleased to see it was in a doe foot applicator form (I know it's called a cream, but I still kinda expected a stick form). It makes it so easy to use and apply. On application, I was even more pleased with the beautiful, moussy, almost whipped consistency with glided onto my lips smoothly and evenly, topped off with a gorgeous creamy, sweet, fragrance. The product feels delightfully smooth and soft (I applied it just before writing this review for maximum detail), but it's certainly not a product to use when your lips are cracking or peeling, as even though this isn't drying, because the finish is very matte, I find it clings to and exacerbates any dry bits when it sets. Whereas a nonsetting formula can be a little more forgiving. I make sure I exfoliate and hydrate before using this! I have not given it 100%, as NYX call this product moisturising. I didn't find that to be the case. Now as much as it isn't drying, and my lips feel fine once it's set (unlike most matte lip products), I certainly haven't found it hydrated it nourished, but I didn't buy it for that purpose so that really doesn't worry me. I have since purchased two more shades, "Antwerp", which is a pink still, but with a slightly orangey hue, also much more vivid than "Milan", less of a natural shade, and "Stockholm", a beautiful nude, peachy tan. I wish I could attach swatch pictures! I love these creams and I can't wait to collect more. The colour selection is amazing, ranging from neutrals to brights to darks, and the longevity is brilliant. They begin to slowly fade after eating and drinking, but I've never had them dissappear entirely. Even when they do fade, it's merely the colour becoming less intense. There's none of that lip corner gathering, crumbling, smudging or flaking nonsense. These are brilliant.
Tips: Exfoliate first and apply a balm a couple of hours before you intend to use your cream. Take off any excess balm before you use this. I find one coat gives easily adequate and even coverage, but sometimes I apply a couple of coats for a bolder look, or sometimes I just apply to the bottom and smoosh for just a really light, subtle wash. Check out a few of the swatches online to give the best idea of colour as sometimes the lighting varies and they can appear slightly different.
I love the smell of these lip creams! amazing! it also has a really lovely velvety texture on the lips. I have the shade milan which is a nice , everyday pink that dries matte which I love, only thing it does show lines on lips, but if you wait and add a second coat it will reduce the appearance of these lines. I really like the range of colours, there's one for everyone ! will be ourchasing more for sure :)
These are something I purchased a while ago, after hearing so many brilliant things about them. I bought five shades (just to make sure the formula was consistent across every colour... hahaha :P )
The shades I got were Amsterdam (a true red), Addis Adaba (a very bright fuchsia), Prague (a wine shade), Ibiza (a deep rosey pink) and Antwerp (a medium pink).
All of these apply with a doe foot applicator and have a nice vanilla scent to them. These are super easy to apply and all of them feel really soft and velvety on your lips. The pigmentation of these does vary, I found that the darker shades had more pigmentation to them and only needed one coat, whereas the lighter shades are a little less pigmented. These are easily built up however, so you can apply as many coats as you want.
Some matte lipsticks tend to dry your lips out and these don't really do that. They are just a tiny bit drying but if you apply a lip balm about ten minutes before applying these (and remove the lip balm before application of these), they won't feel dry at all. These are extremely comfortable to wear all day and do leave a slight stain to your lips.
The wear time for these varies depending on if you are eating or drinking, I found that I can get around 4 hours of wear time from these with light eating and drinking, so reapplication is something to consider. Personally I don't mind taking these with me if I am wearing them because they are soooo comfortable and pretty.
The finish is definitely a matte finish but they look a little velvety and rich. They're beautiful!
I was so excited to receive this product, one of my favourite youtubers raved about it, unfortunately when I tried it I found the product to be horrendously drying on my lips (and I am used to Matte formulas, I own a variety of other Matte lip products) I actually found them uncomfortable to wear. The shade I got was Buenos Aries and to be honest I wasn't that fussed on the colour. As for moisturising, NYX please! Definitely not!
Tips: If you are wanted a fantastic quality and formula lip gloss/cream that is affordable I definitely recommend NYX butter glosses over the Soft Matte Lip Creams!
