not for me

it was my first time using something like this. i found that the sticker was too big for my face. i normally like to do my foundation before lip and eye so i would have to go over my foundation again on areas where the sticker has been. it was useful when it came to applying mascara. sometimes i would get black spots on my lid from my mascara but the sticker helps. i think i do not need something like this to help me with my eye make up.

Not for me

I tried this out a few ways, and found that it doesn't fit my face/eye shape very well. Admittedly I am east Asian and have smaller eyes and a flatter face which needed all the adhesive exposed for the shield to lay flat and stay on when I moved my face. Blinking with the shield on was uncomfortable, it managed to get in my eye when positioned for a fairly thick (for me) lower lash application. Working with a pencil eye liner caused a pinching feeling where it ran against the shield but the line was even. A fluffy eye shadow brush easily left a neat line without problem. Personally I'd only use this for a quick smoky shadow line. Some other positives: the adhesive went on and off easily without too much tugging, and it could be used over foundation without lifting off too much although it wouldn't stick quite as well.

Tips: There's no reason not to cut them up with some sharp scissors, half would be plenty for a neat flick.

Useful tool, but would not repurchase.

I was very nervous to try this product out as I was scared of irritating the delicate under eye area. However I was pleasantly surprised as they adhesive could be exposed in sections, meaning that I only stuck down the corners to the appropriate area, instead of having a line of adhesion. Packaging is very pretty and easy to access the shields.

I was doing my makeup and had already applied foundation and concealer before I remembered I had these to try. I would NOT recommend using after you have applied concealer as it left a patch bare and it was hard to reapply so it looked cohesive & well-blended. The second time I tried these it was before I had applied any face makeup. They were a bit hard to get used to, but they achieved a sharp line with my eyeshadow and my face was free of fallout (I was doing a dark brown smokey eye). However, I don't think this product is really worth the money, as I can just as easily use a makeup wipe to clean up, and I would not use this with face makeup on.

Shadow shields

Not something I would use usually but thought I would give it a go when invited to trail product. I found it can be quite fiddly at first but once you've used a couple times you get the hang of it. It defiantly helps keep eyeshadow off your face and helps you pull of the coolest cat eye. If your someone that uses eyeshadow everyday I defiantly would recommend for a easy and quick way to do the perfect eye makeup but for me who doesn't wear eyeshadow regularly this pack will keep me going for ages, all in all a good product

Awkward

I was excited to pick these up in the vault as I am useless at free hand wings.

The backing is separated into several bits so you can peel off a small amount where it's going to suit you to stick it on.... I kind of don't see the point. But I guess it's going to be handy for someone else.

I found them just a bit too hard on the adhesive side of things. When I pulled it off, it almost pulled my skin with it on bare skin. Overtop of foundation, these will take the foundation with it.

Maybe not really for me as I apply my foundation before I do my eyes.

I actually just found them a bit too fiddly & difficult to use. I did not achieve the wing I was hoping for.

I'm going to have a few more tries with them to see if maybe it gets easier. I probably wouldn't bother purchasing them again really.

Gimmicky or useful?

The Shadow Shields arrived in their cute little box but I considered the instructions were a bit sparse. Their purpose is to catch eye shadow fallout - which is something I rarely notice. However, since I lack 20:20 vision, I thought these might be the answer to my prayers of over-makeup or miscalculation around the eyes. Certainly, having a Shadow Shield helped my aim and I felt more confident with the result. If I was a busy person I probably would find these a little time-consuming but since I have the pleasure of a lazy life nowadays I did enjoy the experimentation and agreeable results. A "different" invention that I will continue to enjoy as the box generously contains 30 shields, but am not sure I would purchase them in future.

Tips: These are GREAT for lip stain! I have found it's inclined to leak sometimes and the Shadow Shields form a good barrier to prevent this happening.

Great idea!

These nifty little pads come in a pack of 30 shields. This gives you 15 application per pack. At $18 a pack, these aren't for your every day no-makeup makeup look. But when you want big smoky eyes or perfect winged liner, these are amazing.

The design of the shields is really clever. They are easy to apply and stay on your face as long as you need. Once applied, the bottom of the shield curves out which lets it pick up any fall out and keeps your foundation safe.

These help make a beautiful winged cats eye. It's like using a piece of tape but these shields have less adhesion to your skin so they're more comfortable. I sometimes have a few issues with them coming loose if I have them up super close to my eye to try and get a really neat line, but this is mostly to do with application and a bit of trial and error is all that's needed to find the best place to put them.

When I do a dark smoky eye with these shields, they end up filthy. It's so satisfying seeing all the dark eyeshadow that isn't all over your face. These would be great for applying glitter or pigments which will spread all over your face if you're not careful.

Overall I think these are really neat, the biggest downside is the price which puts me off using them for every day. For heavy makeup though, these are life savers.

Tips: Great if you're in a hurry and won't be able to fix eyeshadow all over your face (we've all been there)

Shadow-free cheeks but can manage without it

I received the Shadow Shields to trial (thank you BR!) and after trialling it for the week I’ve made up my mind that it’s more of a ‘nice-to-have’ as opposed to a ‘must-have’.

I tested the product with and without my 'face paint' just to see the difference. In general I apply my eye makeup before my 'face paint' which suited this exercise because that’s how the Shadow Shields creator intended for it to be used (not a strict rule obviously but that’s what she had in mind when creating it). I placed the shields directly under my eyes as well as testing them on a slant to provide a sharp edge for my eyeshadow or winged liner. The shields caught all the fallout and goodness I had no idea just how much would fall out which made me wonder how could I not notice this pre shadow shields?! Removing the shields was painless and I had shadow-free cheeks and beautiful sharp edges so onto the next step I went.

When I used the shields on top of my face paint I wasn’t too impressed. Did it catch all the fallout? Absolutely. Did it provide a beautiful sharp edge? Of course. Was it painless to remove? Not quite so much. Did I have to touch up my 'face paint'? Slightly.

I’m not sure what I did differently for the adhesive to cling on tight to my skin. How can it be painless pre 'face paint' but pinch post 'face paint'!? To describe the feeling it’s very similar to trying to remove fake lashes that are stuck on real good with stubborn lash glue. Now it could be how I placed it (under eyes / slanted for sharp edge); how hard I pressed the adhesive (didn’t think I pressed too hard; it’s my eye area after all) or my 'face paint' (in all my attempts I used MAC Studio Fix, Revlon Nearly Naked and Hourglass) but still there was the tugging to remove it (a small bit at a time).

I don’t think I would purchase this myself but if I was going to then I wouldn’t use it everyday. I would only bring it out when it’s the heavy duty panda eyes business (black smokey) but other than that I would stick to my plastic post-it tabs.

Tips: Before placing the shadow shields near your eye area just place the adhesive part against the back of your hand (pull off and repeat) a few times just to make it less sticky so it doesn’t cling to your skin. Learned that the hard way.

Great for dramatic and special occasion make-up!

I was lucky enough to get receive these from BR for review and am super glad I did as they are not something I would usually purchase otherwise (since they aren't a necessity). Being $18 a pack with 30 shields (15 applications, one for each eye) they cost $1.20 per application so are not really affordable to use daily. I would say they are more suited to when you want perfect eye make-up for a special occasion, are going for a dark smoky eye or using pigments/glitter that are prone to major fallout.

In saying that I tried these out with a neutral everyday eye-shadow look and was quite surprised at the amount of fallout the little shield collected. Another awesome use for these is winged liner...and for a beginner at winger liner like me these are super handy and help create a nice crisp line and a guide to follow for a nicely shaped wing.

I have used these both before applying foundation and after and found they work well either way, however, I would suggest removing some of the stickiness by applying it to the back of your hand and removing a couple of times so it is easy to remove from the delicate eye skin and also doesn't remove foundation (if that is already applied).

Overall, I love these and think they are super handy...however, as they aren't super cheap, they will be reserved for special occasions in my case.

Tips: Remove some of the adhesive on the back of your hand so they don't stick so strongly to your delicate eye skin or remove freshly applied foundation.

Great for beginners

I purchased these when I was first getting into eye shadow, because I had absolutely no idea what I was doing! I found that these Shadow Shields were really helpful for figuring out where eye shadow should be applied. I still have some of these floating around in my makeup bag, but I no longer use them because I don't really need them anymore.

These are shaped like a half circle with a curved part that fits under your eye. One side is adhesive and that's the part that goes against your skin, while the other side feels like fabric. There are four separate sections that you can pull off so you can stick it to your face. The best way to use them is to remove the two top corners of the backing, and apply it as close to the bottom of your eye as possible. This way you won't remove too much foundation/concealer when you go to remove the shields. However I preferred to do my eye shadow first when using these, so that there was no way I would mess up the rest of my makeup.

Not only were these good to use as a guideline for doing eye shadow, they were also good for stopping fallout from getting on the rest of my face. I did try them once to get a really sharp cat-eye wing with black liquid liner, but I couldn't get it to work with the Shadow Shields. The liner always seemed to leak under the shield, so the line was wonky instead of being neat. Perhaps it would work better with gel liner, since that is usually less watery.

I would definitely suggest these to anyone who is struggling with applying eye shadow or if your sick of getting fallout all over your face.
