When I was chosen to trial this product, I was so excited & had high expectations because I had wanted this product for so long. When it arrived, well let’s just say it screamed luxury. It comes in general plastic packaging, but it also comes with an invitation like envelope, which tells you all about Sigma, and the brush cleansing glove.
So the glove.. well it’s probably the fanciest glove I own. Its bright pink (yay), and made of a thick high quality silicon. It’s a glove that is designed more as an oven glove, with your whole hand fitting in the one pocket and it has a strap which keeps it in place. The glove is covered in bumps, grooves, and indents, with the glove having different areas, for different phases of cleaning your brushes.
The glove is made up different sections including a criss-cross section or a dome section for cleaning brushes, a squiggly line or straight line section for rinsing brushes. It also has a refine section which is made up of little bumps and this area is for deep cleaning, and the refine plus which is a big swirl and used for another cleaning surface. There are also two sides to this glove as it is reversible. One side is for larger brushes (face brushes), and the other is for smaller brushes (eye brushes). I think this idea is amazing, because smaller brushes need smaller textures of the surface to really cleanse the brush.
The way I use this is I wet my brush, and put a small drop of cleanser onto the cleansing section of the brush. I swirl my brush around on here until a good lather is created, then I put it onto the rinsing section, where I put run my brush side to side with the grooves. Then I swirl it over the refine section which creates another lather (even without adding more cleanser), followed by a rinse. Then for the extra dirty brushes, I swirl them over the refine plus and then rinse them. I know it sounds like a lot, but its takes just over a minute for each brush, and you would not believe how clean my brushes are. There is not one spec of dirt, or dust… or anything on them!
The reason why I would invest in this product is because it’s made of high quality product and its feels sturdy. Plus the way it is designed makes me feel like this will last forever. It’s so thick, I can’t imagine the silicon tearing or wearing down anytime soon. Plus this is so easy to clean up. This is super easy to pack away because it’s quite compact and can be folded up, which also means it’s easy to take away with you as well (not like anyone ever wanted to wash their brushes when they were on holiday but still).
There is one slight downside to this product and that is the fact that I would consider it pricey. The only place I know where to get this from is the sigma website, which means you would also have to pay a shipping cost. And these things add up. However, this is the best brush cleansing mat I have used so I do think it is worth it.
I was lucky enough to be sent this by BR to trial. I made sure to amass quite a collection of grubby brushes prior to receiving this glove so I could really test it to the limits! I was quite surprised initially by the size of the brush cleaning glove, when I read travel sized I imagined something quite dainty- this is the size of a large man's hand. This is good though as it would encompass a wide range of hand sizes from my baby hands to someone with lovely long fingers. For travel this can be compressed by tucking the portion that covers your palm/wrist area into the pocket that covers your fingers, effectively cutting the size of the glove in half and thereby taking up less space in your makeup bag.
I love how this glove is reversible enabling you to use a cleaning texture appropriate to the size and bristle style of your brush. I cleaned all of my face brushes first on the face side, turned the glove inside out and cleaned my eye brushes. There are different textures on the glove; wash, rinse, refine and refine plus. I found these textures did a fantastic job at really getting in between the bristles and cleaning out the gunk-particularly on very dense brushes such as my foundation buffing brush. This is a perfect option if you really want to look after your brushes and are having problems with giving them a really deep clean. If you are someone who applies your foundation with a brush this is also a great option for you and makes the whole arduous process of cleaning your brushes just that little bit easier. If you don't tend to use a lot of brushes for your makeup (i.e. just the odd eye brush) then something easier on the budget would probably be a fine option for you. As for me I am gifting my previous brush cleaning pad to my sister and will be sticking to this one. Thanks BR!
Tips: There are two sides to this glove (it is reversible). One side is for large brushes and the other for small. Place the strap around the thumb and wrist for a secure fit. Wet your brushes and the 'wash' portion of the glove. Add your brush shampoo of choice (I used Bossy) and swirl brush over texture to clean. Rinse the glove and run your brush back and forth over the area marked as 'rinse'. For an extra clean swirl your brush around the portion of the brush marked as 'refine'. Return to the rinse texture of the glove and set brush aside to dry on a towel. There is a 'refine plus' texture also if your brushes are extra grubby and in need of a bit more of a clean.
