W7 In The Buff Palette - Review

I picked this palette up from Postie Plus a while back, thinking it looked gorgeous with a bunch of natural shades, and it isn't disappointing for the price! I think it cost me around $15, though I did see a bunch of these palettes on clearance at The Warehouse a while ago for only $3.50 (crazy right?!).

This palette comes in a tin style case - this reminds me of the Urban Decay Naked palettes, and I've heard these are sort of a dupe for them. I don't like this style of packaging, I prefer sleeker packaging (such as Morphe) but it is still nice. Inside you get 12 eyeshadows, with a range of shimmery browny-bronzy colours and a few mattes - a light yellow toned nude, a taupe brown and a black. You also get a flimsy little double sided brush/sponge duo, which doesn't do a good job at blending at all. The pigmentation of the shades in this palette is incredible though! The metallic/shimmer shades are super creamy and pigmented, and could easily be intensified by spraying a little setting spray on your brush. The mattes are good, I found the yellow toned nude and taupe were nice but the matte black fell short, though I would expect that from a 'drugstore' palette anyway.

This palette is really good for the price, but definitely not the best I've tried. Would be a good palette to take travelling if you're worried about damaging your more expensive shadows, but you would probably need a better brush to use with it.

Natural shadows but not for me

I got this for $5 from the wearhouse. And excellent find. This pallette has nice natural colours. I like the look of the tin, it's easy to store away. The shadows don't have amazing pigment or The best colour pay off. They do blend nice and easily. And you can build colours nicely on top. On the bottom of the pallete there is a sticker with all the colours and all the names of the shades.

A great neutral palette for beginners

After buying the 'In the night' palette by W7 I was so keen to get the rest of the siblings to go with it. I was rather impressed by that one so my expectations were already pretty high for this palette. I am usually in to bright and bold colours so it was quite an experience to actually want to buy a nude/neutral one.

The cases it comes in is beyond cool. I only know of this brand (but then I am not that knowledgable of cosmetic brands) that uses a metal case as the surrounding. It both serves as a great protector and also looks pretty dam hip and chic of you ask me. Inside it has a spongey like material around each shadow to I am guessing protect it further. It comes with an applicator that on one end is a brush and the other is a sponge. To be honest it isn't very useful to me. I prefer my RT shadow brush. This applicator has far too much fallout and tends to scratch the shadows.

The colours inside are made up of browns, taupes, and bronzes. They are gorgeous and there is also a shimmery shadow for those up market nights out or just because you want to stand out. These colours make a great no makeup makeup look or are great for making a subtle nude smokey eye.

The shadows themselves are not very pigmented in my opinion. I find that I have to do a few swipes, at least four to make any real impact. Lasting power is not very good. I find after two or so hours my shadow has shifted to the crease of my eyes and it is when I am not sweating or anything. The colour is near non-existent except in the crease. I am not sure if it is because I have hooded eyelids or because of the quality of the product. The next time I used a setting spray which helped a tad keeping it in place a bit more but still didn't do what I wanted it to do.

All in all this is a great nude palette for a beginner or for those who like valie for money. I bought mine for $15 from postie plus so for that much it is definitely worth it.

Tips: Use a primer and setting spray to help keep it in place for longer

Cheap, good for beginners

I picked this up for $5 and figured the quality wouldn't matter too much for the price. I liked that this was a bit different to most nude palettes out there which are straight copies of the Naked palette, this one had very different shades. The palette is packaged really nicely for the price, it comes in a chocolate brown tin, with a mirror, and one of those cheap dual ended brushes/applicators that are terrible at applying the product. The tin does feel a bit flimsy and there are 12 shades in the palette; nudes, golds, coppers, bronzes and black and silver.

The shades vary in pigmentation, the bronzes and golds tend to be very pigmented but the nudes and browns aren't very pigmented. However, I think this is very good for beginners as these are very forgiving to work with as they blend easily away if you make a mistake. There is a bit of fallout with these, but it's easy enough to brush away. I found the shadows to be very pretty and I was surprised that wear-time was above average and these did last all day with minimal creasing, just a bit of fadage. However if used with a good base these last really well.

Overall, this is cheap, and I wouldn't expect it to be amazing for the price but it did the job and wasn't horrible and I'd gladly use it again.

I do not like Parabens. Like the tin packaging.

I like the tin that this comes in it could be used to carry brushes in if you removed the pallet. I think this pallet is okay I use one of the matte shades on my eye brows and it works well. I tried applying eye shadows from this pallet with no primer and they faded out and creased up easily so that makes me feel like they are not great and with parabens in it this is not good for you. When I use the shadows there is alot of powder that comes away from the cake. I am not a fan of the silvery glitter that comes in some of the shades either. I like the goldy / bronzy shades and the black is decently pigmented. I like the brush applicator too. It does not smell too bad. Some of the colours are a bit too boring for me like there is this greyish colour looks a bit too cool toned I think. Some do not really show up at all. $20.00 is too much for this cheaply made product you can get it cheaper elsewhere. Ideal for beginners and travelling.

W7 in the buff eyeshadow pallete

These were $5 at the warehouse and thought why not give it a go, the shades looked really nice and they looked like those naked pallets. I suck at doing eyeshadow so when I do wear it, it's just one colour all over the lid. I reakon the colour pigment was good for $5 and stayed for couple hours but then it starts creasing if that makes sense. Good for beginners or for little girls makeup parties.

A Good Beginner Palette

I used to use this palette when I was just starting to use eyeshadow. This palette is very beginner friendly as the shades are not too pigmented but also pigmented enough so you really can't apply too much. I would still be cautious with the black it is unexpectedly nice and black so start with a little first. Overall, it's great for building up colour, especially for learning to create a smokey eye. There is some fallout but it didn't bother me. I would say, that if you are already into makeup I would skip this and go for a better quality palette. I also this it is important to note that a palette this cheap must have cheap ingredients too, and as another reviewer noted, it does contain parabens. I wouldn't reccomend this for sensitive eyes just incase.

Tips: The gold shade looks great applied wet, all over the lid for an effortless (or emergency) dressy makeup look. You could even smudge a bit of the black close to the lash line to make the look bolder.

As to be expected for the price

This is the first eye-shadow palette I've ever owned, as I just don't wear eye-shadow very often. Hence why I didn't want to spend much on one.

This was really cheap. From memory maybe around $14.

The brush is cheap quality and so is the packaging, but I feel that this is to be expected for the price point.

The shadow itself was fine. Nothing wow, but not bad either. Quite a range of shades - some shimmery, some not.

Overall it's quite honestly exactly what I was expecting for $14. Basic eyeshadow.

Pretty average

I was expecting great things from this pallette but it was abit of a miss. I dont really like it and i dont find the colours are overly pigmented. it was super cheap so i can't say much for the price but i find my other cheap pallettes are miles better and i never tend to reach for this one often.

Not pigmented

I am not a big fan of this eyeshadow palette. The shades are great for everyday makeup look but the pigment is not that good. It is also very patchy on the eye if placed on top of a concealer or eye primer. Also, the packaging breaks easily aswell so definitely would not like to use again.

Tips: Some other w7 palettes are good out there such as the Very Vegan palette!
