I love highlighters so I snapped them up a few minutes after they launched online. I based my purchase on just two pictures DoC had posted on their instagram (because they didn’t send them out to beauty bloggers to review – I checked this before purchasing) and good golly were the colours STUNNING; I just didn’t want to wait.
I should have.
Note to self: I must try harder to ignore my YOLO moments.
I bought all 3: Sunkissed, Peach Glow and Pearl Dust. The product is domed shaped in a white compact with a clear top so you can see the beautiful veins of sparkle and shimmer. Unfortunately the beautiful veins are just an overspray so once you work your way through it then all you’re left with is a below average product.
Sunkissed was my favourite before I figured out I was dealing with an overspray. It gave me the best bronze copper glow that I have ever seen on my brown face and I thought wow this is a nice Baywatch moment (dreams are for free). Within 2-3 hours there was no trace of the highlight – none, nada, zilch.
Peach Glow would have to be the most frustrating. I went straight from compact to cheekbone; I didn’t tap the excess off because that’s how light it is (yes even with the overspray). I got a sore neck from tilting my head trying to catch a good angle where I could see the highlight (and justify what I spent arggh) but all I could see was a slight sheen.
Pearl Dust is a frosty light pink highlighter and I think this is the only decent one in the bunch. When blended out it leaves an alarming light pink frost but I actually think this could work out nicely for someone with the right skin tone. The shade doesn’t suit me because frost on me is only good if I want to light my way in the dark.
This is not the type of product you want to build up because then you’ll end up looking like the Tin Man (well I did). I'm looking forward to reading other reviews to see if they liked it and how they got it to work for them but for now I'm stuck with 24 grams of regret.
