Brassy Hair No More!

I am currently using a few other Essano products and loving them all and I was pleased to of been selected for this trial so a big thank you to the BR team.My hair is naturally brown/auburn in colour with half a head of blonde foils through the top layers but my problem is that my hair tends to throw a lot of warmth reddish tones and can make my blondes look quite brassy so I have always had a struggle keeping them looking bright and light and my hair not resembling straw until now! This product is totally a game changer and i'm loving the result! The packaging is attractive and eye catching with it's purple label and silver colouring you can easily see it is a blonde toner shampoo for blonde hair.I love that Essano have made their bottles from recycled material that can be recycled again and the ingredients are plant based, win win for the environment. The shampoo is also free of Parabans and Sulphates and other nasty chemicals plus Essano are against animal testing, another win win!

The bottle has a pump top lid which makes it easy to distribute the shampoo through your hair and avoiding less mess and waste of the product.I used about 6 pumps in to the palm of my hand and noticed it was bright purple but a thin consistency and smelling strongly of violets which was pleasant and not too over powering.I massaged the formula evenly through my hair which I did find a bit messy as it does tend to go everywhere if your not careful however the product easily washes off and doesn't stain your palms purple like some other products do.I left it on for 5 minutes although you only need to leave it on for 2-3 minutes. After rinsing and conditioning my hair I left it to dry naturally. Did I notice a difference in my hair?I sure did,the brassy look had gone and I was left with softer, less frizz, lighter and brighter hair, there was definitely a noticible shine too.I can't say the violet scent lingered in my hair though but I was pleased this product delivered and nuetralised my brassy look which was my main concern.

Instead of using chemical laden blonde toners that did virtually nothing to reduce the brassiness to my blondes and left my hair feeling very dry,I will definitely be switching to the Essano purple range.Knowing that it is New Zealand made and kind to the environment is a huge draw card for me too and I look forward to trying out their other products.

Excellent budget purple toning shampoo

I was delighted to have the opportunity to review Essano's purple shampoo and conditioner. I'm transitioning my hair from permanent brown dye to it's natural silver colour, so my roots are natural and the previously brown lengths have been bleached. The bleached sections can get yellow tones, so I use purple shampoos and conditioner to neutralise the yellow and cool down the tone. Most purple shampoos are salon brands and pretty expensive so it's really great to see a budget option that is very very good. The shampoo is very dark purple, almost black. It has a mild smell, pleasant but not overpowering. It's SLS-free, which I really like because my scalp can be sensitive, so it doesn't lather much on the first wash. If you shampoo a second time, it lathers a lot more. The foam is a pleasing light purple colour. I shampoo twice, leaving the second application on for about 5 minutes. Then I rinse and apply the matching purple conditioner. Afterwards my hair feels soft and clean, and the tones are noticeably cooler. I'm really happy with this shampoo and will continue to use it.

Tips: Wash your hands after applying, it's purple and stainy!

Be gone brassy hair!

I'll start with the negative's first and end with the positives. I didn't find the scent of the Shampoo pleasant, but I suspect thats due to all of its natural ingredients. I also didn't like the fact that its a non-foam formula, it made me feel as though I needed to use quite a bit for it to actually cover my hair! Now on to the positives! I absolutely love that it does what it says....my hair was toned a beautiful ashy blonde and once naturally dried, it was smooth and shiny! I also left it in for slightly longer than it says and its definately not as potent as the Fudge Purple Shampoo so didn't stain my hair at all. The packaging is brilliant (recyclable, 100% pre-used) and the pump makes it so much easier to disperse the product so you don't accidently use too much! Plus its sulphate-free! How good!

Tips: Definately use in-between Fudge Shampoo and follow through with the Conditioner for best results!

essano blonde purple shampoo

I love the fact that this product comes in recyclable packaging and there are no nasties (parabens, sulhates etc). No animals are used in testing of this product so that is a definite plus for me and it is made in NZ. It isn't an overly fragrant product but has a pleasant scent. I found I had to use a LOT of product to get a good lather on my thrice weekly washed hair. I didn't find any noticeable difference to my blonde highlights at all or find my hair shinier and softer. Based on my findings, I probably wouldn't buy this shampoo.

Tips: Use lots!!

Amazing Natural Purple Shampoo

I was sceptical that the product was actually going to help with the copper tones in my hair, but it really does work. With a slightly more liquid consistency than other shampoos I've used and it doesn't foam up as much as others. I apply it to my wet hair and leave to sit for 2-5min and then rinse thoroughly, follow with conditioner. Unlike other purple shampoos that can leave your hair feeling dry and brittle I've found this to have the opposite affect.

Tips: After working the product into your roots leave to sit for a couple of minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Giving my salon shampoo a run for its money!

I'm a diehard salon purple shampoo user as I like my blonde to stay clean, crisp and free from any hints of yellow. I use purple shampoo most days, so was excited to trial something a little more cost effective and accessible than my salon brands. This shampoo is a little runnier in consistency than I'm used to (so you need to be a bit careful you don't get it everywhere) but it has a good pigment and foams well for easy distribution through the hair. I found it gave my hands a purple tinge (easily washed off), which for me is always a good sign of its strength. Unlike other supermarket brands I've used, the shampoo didn't leave my fine hair dry, which is a huge plus. After combining with the Essano Condition and drying, my hair was easily styled - it curled and straightened as normal. The shampoo toned and corrected well. It definitely left my hair more ashy in colour with less yellow and brassy tones than pre application. This colour correction was visible both when wet and dry - I was pleasantly suprised! The smell was pleasant (unlike some other purple shampoos) and I really like the bottle, which has a lockable pump, great for traveling and avoiding messing spills in your toilet bag! While I'm not sure I'll completely replace my salon brand with this one, I'll definitely interchange them for a more cost effective solution.

Tips: If your hair is a little on the dirtier side, you'll need to use more of the shampoo so that it foams nicely.

Essano Blond purple shampoo

This shampoo comes in a pump, i'm not sure why as the matching conditioner doesn't come with the same pump. I found i had to use at least four or five pumps to get enough product to use. It is a deep purple colour and smells quite odd, i see from the packaging that it is based around violet leaf extract. The smell was a bit offputting for me, but i did get used to it. It doesn't lather up either which i found a bit unusual, but it does say it is low foam. It did cleanse and tone nicely, and left my hair quite shiny and soft. However i have really oily roots and i found i needed to wash it daily when i used this . I thought it might be the matching conditioner, but i tried the shampoo without the conditioner and i still had the oily scalp problem. It also really stings your eyes if it happens to drip in your eyes, but i noticed it didn't leave them red and sore afterward , which was good. So altogether it wasn't the best for me as the product was a bit too moisturising , and left my hair a bit oily . Most blonde shampoos are quite drying, but this went to the other extreme and was too heavy for my fine blonde hair.

Tips: Don't get it in your eyes, it stings!

This stuff is amazing

Blonde shampoos I have used in the past have been quite drying on my hair, however this stuff is definitely not. My hair is silky smooth with no hint of dryness at all.

It comes in a pump bottle, be aware a little goes a long way, you only need a couple of pumps, not a entire palmful. You'll notice it has a strong floral scent when your applying, this scent fades to a light fragrance once you have rinsed it out.

After shampooing your hands will be purple, however the conditioner makes this go away so dont panic.

It does what it says it will, it removes all brassy tones from your hair and I love that it is gentle enough to use every wash

Tips: Shampoo twice, condition once. This means you'll only need to wash twice a week

Supermarket shampoo this good?

I have had peroxide blonde hair since I was a teen (now in my 30's) so I have built numerous relationships with many brands of purple shampoo.

So you can imagine how excited I was when I was invited to review Essano's natural take on the blonde staple. I love the idea of a salon worthy product that is natural and available at the supermarket. My holy grails for years now have been de lorenzo and fudge but I think they have some fierce competition with this baby!

I usually use a purple toning shampoo every second hair wash (so basically one a week) so I prepped my hair for this trail by avoiding it for the past two weeks, and I can tell you - it didn't take long for the brassy tones to return.

The bottle is gorgeous - purple and silver. It looks and feels like good quality. I though the size was very generous with 300ml as my de lorenzo only has 250ml in it. The pump action top is lockable for easy travelling and worked well without giving me too much product. The smell is insanely good and for me smells like roses and sherbet. The consistency is quite runny and very pigmented.

The first time I used it in both of my shampoo washes (normally I would wash with a regular shampoo first and do a second wash with the purple shampoo) and I found that it didn't do much lathering on he first wash but the second wash provided me with a rich, thick lather. After rinsing my hair felt pretty rough and gross until I followed up with the conditioner (i ova reviewed this also). After drying my hair (with a hair dryer) and running my straighteners through it I was left with zero brassy tones, no staining and a heavenly scent.

It created a very clean blonde from one wash and I must say I think I am converted! I have used it about 4 times altogether and have found that my hair doesn't stay as clean if I use it for both sahmpoo washes ( I have quite thin hair so it gets grubby quick) so I only use it for my second wash and find that works a treat!

I can officially say that i am a big fan of this product and will be repurchasing it when i run out.

Tips: I use it for a second wash after using regular shampoo as I found it didn't have the cleaning power I need for my thin hair.

Packing a purple punch

Let me start by telling you a bit about my hair. I've been dyeing it various shades of dark brown since I started going grey at 16.....thats decades of dye; every 2 weeks. I finally decided to embrace the grey and started the process, by going blonde. 12+ hours later, I was blonde but also left with very damaged and porous hair. Of course this hair would like nothing better than be various shades of brassy, warm yellow. I was excited to try the Essano tone correcting range as my first maintenance purple shampoo.

I love that the range is plant based , cruelty free with recycled packaging. The products smells delicious. The shampoo itself is very pigmented and upon the rinsing out the 1st shampoo, the pigment had stained the more damaged parts of my hair a light lilac tint but this mostly came out when I 2nd shampooed with my usual product. It did tone down the brassy and made my natural grey/silver a fantastic platinum. There were a couple of patches that didn't tone correct as well but that may have been due to my salon toner washing out more than anything.

With further usage I found using half Essano and half my normal shampoo worked the best. Coupled with the conditioner they are very good products for correcting warm tones. I suspect this bottle will also last me a long time.

I will continue to use this product and for a first timer I am very impressed

Tips: dilute the potency of the purple pigment with your normal shampoo if you have extremely damaged and porous hair to avoid a residual lilac tone.
