Received both the shampoo and conditioner of this range in a beauty box. I dye my already blonde hair lighter once every two months or so, so I’m always after a good purple shampoo and conditioner. Works really well to neutralise brassiness, and just for a laugh I left it in for longer, about 5 minutes. I had previously done this accidentally with a blue shampoo/conditioner and was surprised to find it had dyed my hair blue. It washed out after a few days, but I wanted to test if this Essano range would do something similar. It did not. My hair was silver in places, but I loved the result. The shampoo is going to last longer as it lathers up really well, and you don’t need a lot to get a great lather. In addition, my hair was soft and silky, full of moisture, shiny, and not weighed down. At $11 a bottle I would definitely keep buying!

I have naturally dark brunette hair and i have balayage blonde, so my ends are very light blonde. When freshly done my ends are very cool toned, but like a lot of faux blondes, they often go brassy, so I am always on the look out for the perfect toner.
One thing I noticed the bottle it doesn't tell you how often you can use the shampoo - usually with toners they specify if they can be used every wash, or weekly etc because of how harsh the ingredients may be on your hair. However Essano are known for using natural ingredients. The purple shampoo is plant based, 100% free from parabens, PEGs and sulphates. Even the bottle is made from 100% recycled material.
The shampoo is a very effective toner. It can temporarily leave purple staining on your hands after you apply it (don't worry this easily washes off with the warm water by the end of your shower!). It has definitely removed brassiness and left me with very clean and cool toned hair.
I gave 4 out of 5 for 'would you use it again' and the only reason I marked this down is because of my personal hair type. I usually wash my hair twice a week. The shampoo says it can help coloured, dry, dull, damaged, frizzy, flat, oily and normal hair. However I have found that my hair gets quite oily after a couple of days, meaning I have to wash 3 times a week to avoid looking greasy. I also used this shampoo in conjunction with the conditioner; so I will try using just the shampoo and see if that helps.
Tips: Keep your hands under the warm shower water to rinse the purple colour off after applying!
I have had peroxide blonde hair since I was a teen (now in my 30's) so I have built numerous relationships with many brands of purple shampoo.
So you can imagine how excited I was when I was invited to review Essano's natural take on the blonde staple. I love the idea of a salon worthy product that is natural and available at the supermarket. My holy grails for years now have been de lorenzo and fudge but I think they have some fierce competition with this baby!
I usually use a purple toning shampoo every second hair wash (so basically one a week) so I prepped my hair for this trail by avoiding it for the past two weeks, and I can tell you - it didn't take long for the brassy tones to return.
The bottle is gorgeous - purple and silver. It looks and feels like good quality. I though the size was very generous with 300ml as my de lorenzo only has 250ml in it. The pump action top is lockable for easy travelling and worked well without giving me too much product. The smell is insanely good and for me smells like roses and sherbet. The consistency is quite runny and very pigmented.
The first time I used it in both of my shampoo washes (normally I would wash with a regular shampoo first and do a second wash with the purple shampoo) and I found that it didn't do much lathering on he first wash but the second wash provided me with a rich, thick lather. After rinsing my hair felt pretty rough and gross until I followed up with the conditioner (i ova reviewed this also). After drying my hair (with a hair dryer) and running my straighteners through it I was left with zero brassy tones, no staining and a heavenly scent.
It created a very clean blonde from one wash and I must say I think I am converted! I have used it about 4 times altogether and have found that my hair doesn't stay as clean if I use it for both sahmpoo washes ( I have quite thin hair so it gets grubby quick) so I only use it for my second wash and find that works a treat!
I can officially say that i am a big fan of this product and will be repurchasing it when i run out.
Tips: I use it for a second wash after using regular shampoo as I found it didn't have the cleaning power I need for my thin hair.
This shampoo is a supermarket revelation!
I've been blonde for over 2 decades, so I've tried a lot of purple shampoos over the years. In my experience the cheaper the product, the more it left my hair feeling like straw.
The essano purple shampoo is a bargain price, and comes in a pump bottle. It is very purple, which is reassuring from a toning perspective, but worrying when considering the possibility of staining. I try to ensure the shower is fully wet before use to prevent purple stains.
This shampoo doesn't lather, as to be expected from a sulphate-free product. It left my hair feeling cleansed. The soft floral scent doesn't linger long, but is lovely while it lasts.
My hair definitely benefited from this purple shampoo - my blonde was restored to it's salon-white glory after one wash. There was no brassiness or uneven yellowing.
Would definitely repurchase and highly recommend to others.
Really like this shampoo. Lathers nicely. Definitely removes yellow/brassy tone leaving hair shiny and soft.
Let me start by telling you a bit about my hair. I've been dyeing it various shades of dark brown since I started going grey at 16.....thats decades of dye; every 2 weeks. I finally decided to embrace the grey and started the process, by going blonde. 12+ hours later, I was blonde but also left with very damaged and porous hair. Of course this hair would like nothing better than be various shades of brassy, warm yellow. I was excited to try the Essano tone correcting range as my first maintenance purple shampoo.
I love that the range is plant based , cruelty free with recycled packaging. The products smells delicious. The shampoo itself is very pigmented and upon the rinsing out the 1st shampoo, the pigment had stained the more damaged parts of my hair a light lilac tint but this mostly came out when I 2nd shampooed with my usual product. It did tone down the brassy and made my natural grey/silver a fantastic platinum. There were a couple of patches that didn't tone correct as well but that may have been due to my salon toner washing out more than anything.
With further usage I found using half Essano and half my normal shampoo worked the best. Coupled with the conditioner they are very good products for correcting warm tones. I suspect this bottle will also last me a long time.
I will continue to use this product and for a first timer I am very impressed
Tips: dilute the potency of the purple pigment with your normal shampoo if you have extremely damaged and porous hair to avoid a residual lilac tone.
This product works well, it’s not often you can find blonde tone correcting shampoo and conditioner, let alone from the supermarket. First I noticed that this product was very blue look to the product, different to the normal shampoo which is purple. This seems to make hair not as grey, which I enjoy as often my hair gets a dark tinge when I use it often. The product smells pleasant and you need only a small amount at a time. I would recommend this to be used weekly to keep brassy tones at bay.
Tips: But both the shampoo and conditioner, I feel that it the shampoo works well but the conditioner adds that extra moisture that you need.
I LOVE essano. Love them. Their products are affordable, available in Countdown, cruelty-free and natural. What's not to love?
Their toe-dip into the complicated world of blonde hair is mostly a success.
I love the pump bottle, always a bonus for an in-shower product. It's a generous size for the price. 2 pumps is enough for my long, thick hair.
The shampoo is a deep violet, perfect for offsetting those yellow tones.
My hair is balayaged from natural brown to blonde. I usually use a purple conditioner from a salon brand called Nak. I usually opt for a purple conditioner rather than shampoo as I find purple shampoos drying.
I did suspect that essano's sulphate free and purple shampoo would run on the dry side, and it does - my hair is definitely left drier than when using my usual (non purple) shampoo, but no more dry than using any other purple shampoo.
My hair was left wonderfully toned, there was no yellow left and my hair was left manageable and frizz-free.
All up, this is a really nice purple shampoo - it does everything a salon purple shampoo would do, at a fraction of the cost.
Tips: Use on dry hair if you're in need of some serious toning. I apply to dry hair for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing.
I really enjoyed using this product. The packaging is clean and clear with a easy to read text. I found that I needed a lot of the shampoo to wash my hair thoroughly and it does not lather very well. I have below shoulder length hair and needed 7+ pumps. My hands were also died purple after applying to my hair - was very alarming initially, but this did wash away by the time I had finished my shower. Once I had rinsed out the shampoo I believe my hair was very clean, possibly on the dry side so I was very thankful to have the Essano Blonde Tone Correcting Conditioner to try also. I used the Essano Blonde Tone-Correcting Purple Shampoo and conditioner each time for best results. Definitely from using both the Essano Blonde Tone-Correcting products I have noticed that my highlighted hair is less brassy and more golden looking. I will continue to use these 2 products to help maintain my colour.
This shampoo is very purple. But don't let that put you off. My hair which is grey and bleached ( thanks lockdown). I use it combined with the conditioner and it looks great. My scalp is also sensitive and no itching after using this.
Tips: Hold the bottle firmly, the pump on mine is a little stiff
