Essie Hard to Resist Advanced Strengthener

I often get my nails done and use a different strengthener. The last few months however my nails had become weak because the salon had run out of the strengthener and there have been cases where I've used pure acetone to remove my gel polish. The result? Nails that break, chip and bend easily.

I tested the Essie product over the top of my manicure. Why? Because my nails had started to chip. Although not the intent of the product, I wanted to see if it could hold the chips together while prolonging my mani until my next appointment. In addition to that, I didn't want to use more acetone on my already weak nails.

I love how thick and wide the brush is so there's good coverage on my nailbed without top much fuss. I applied two coats fairly quickly and there was no denying the shine. It gave my 2 week old mani renewed life.

It worked like a charm, the chips didnt get any bigger or wider and I only needed to reapply 2 weeks later when I noticed a thread had snagged on one of the chips. I found my nails didn't bend so easily with the additional coats (which weren't thick coats by any means). I'm looking forward to using this strengthener on my bare nails and would recommend it to others.

I really like this product. I have been trialing it for a few weeks now and I can definitely see a difference in my nails. Firstly they look healthier from the nice clear glossy shine the strengthener gives the nails. They also are growing nicely without any breakage. Usually when my nails grow they get to a certain length and become brittle and break but so far after using this that hasn't happened. It is easy to apply, just apply like polish. It also sets very quickly which is amazing. Nice easy to use packaging. I would definitely recommend giving it a go if you have brittle nails.

I'll be honest, I haven't been much of an Essie fan of late (well their nailpolish side of things) but I'm always open to giving brands a second chance.

I'm actually shook on this because I started out feeling here we go, another product claiming to do something and then feeling let down when it doesn't deliver. Well guess what, it actually delivered.

This product is designed to strengthen your nails and it actually did. My nails have become brittle and always prone to getting to a certain length and then breaking. Since I've been using this, not one nail has snapped and they are looking and getting so much stronger.

I love the fact it gives you a lovely shine after application, almost as if it is a clear nail polish. I appreciate that.

The brush, love that too. It's wide enough to apply the formula to your whole nail so takes less time to paint nails

It dries pretty quickly too. Even after the two applications.

The nail polish is awesome. I love a good clear nail polish that has a shine and this does not disappoint. One coat wasn't noticeable at all, two coats was a bit shiny and three coats was like a shiny mirror. I haven't had a broken nail since using this polish. I did find three really thin coats to be the best, as if they were thicker it did tend to come off at the tips and then peel off.

This polish is great for a shield on your nails. I’m a hair dresser and have my hands in water all day and it’s been saving them from constantly breaking so will be continuing to use this!

This clear formula is easy to use and dries quickly, provides a protective barrier. Helps improve resilience and reduce peeling and breaking.

It has even helped repair a vertical split I have had on my thumb nail for months now and I had tried everything to repair this with no success.

Simple to apply on clean bare nails to help promote visibly stronger, natural-looking results.

It comes in a generous sized glass bottle and a little goes along way.

I highly recommend this product for fantastic great healthy looking nails.

I was so excited to try out this nail strengthener, I got into it as soon as it arrived. I absolutely love this product and it couldn’t have come at a better time. My nails were so brittle and had layers peeling off them. I was a little bit skeptical about this strengthener actually working like it says, but I couldn’t be happier with the results. In the usual Essie packaging with the embossed bottle, it looks exactly like a regular clear nail polish. The application is so easy with the nice wide brush which has a slighting rounded tip to help apply perfectly right to the edge of the nail. It’s a really good consistency to work with, not too runny but also not too thick. The strengthener dries down reasonably quickly and straight away protects the nails from any new damage. I noticed instantly that my nails couldn’t bend at all after putting on the two coats that Essie recommends. The only downside I found was right at the tips of my nails, the strengthener wore down a little after about a day - but I am pretty rough with my nails, and besides the slight wear there was no other chipping. This could easily be prevented by using a coloured nail polish or top coat on over the top of it. I will most definitely continue to use this product to get my nails looking healthy and strong again, and I’ve already recommended it to my sister who’s having trouble with brittle nails too. All in all I highly recommend!

I was so impressed with this polish, it took my brittle soft nails and gave them the oomph to get some length going. I am so used to my nails snapping or peeling as soon as any they get any length on them but this strengthening polish really helped with this. I found it to be quick drying and not too strong smell wise (though I would still recommend ensuring ventilation). Prior to testing this on my natural nails, I had BIAB on my nails, one of which cracked, my painting this on it held the BIAB together long enough to get them removed. The RRP is reasonable considering the results in such a short time. I’d love to trial this longer to see just how effective it can be when used in a prolonged setting.

After painting on my nails feel a thicker, I think the review period is perhaps to short but I liked the way my nails felt, less likely to have wee chips/splinters that i may bite and definitely no nail biting with it on. With swimming daily my nails tend to be softer, i do think this helps with that.

This has a subtle as the tint/shine which is nice, I will keep using and seeing what happens I think for the price its worth trying
