First of all the size of this product is MASSIVE which I really appreciate. The consistency is very thick and a little goes a long way! I used it as a wash and scrub every morning and night for the past few weeks and did a mask about twice a week. As a face wash it is effective at washing the day's grime off but didnt really remove my concealer without some help from a face brush. Nevertheless my skin always felt smooth and soft after every wash. As a scrub I would not say that it contains enough exfoliating particles to do a thorough job, because we all know how they slip out from under your fingers when you try to scrub your face. Annoying, but can be expected. My favourite step was the mask because I don't usually do masks so it made me feel pretty fancy. It also has a nice bland fragrance so it doesn't annoy you when you do leave it on. I always left it longer than the reccomended 5 mins because it depends on how thick of a layer that you did. For $13.99 I think this product is worth it because you have the 3 in 1 options. Overall I enjoyed using this product but I did not see any changes in my blackheads or pores, and I think that it is just a matter of the amount of exfoliating particles it contains. It is however a very good thick mask.

I was excited for this product as it contains salicylic acid which is known to be good for breakouts and blackheads. My skin is clear with the odd spot here and there. The tube is a generous size and your typical garnier product size tube. The product has a strong sea scent smell, quite similar to men’s products which may be off putting to some. Make sure you kind of mold the tube as the textured scrub parts can sink to the bottom meaning when you’re running low the texture will be almost all liquid. This is definitely a scrub at first glance and dries pretty quickly depending on how much you use. As a mask it is quite dense. I liked this product for its cleansing properties and how it left my skin feeling clean afterwards. I haven’t noticed a huge reduction in pore size but will be keeping an eye out!
Tips: Use a smaller amount if you plan to use as a mask. Have a decent scrubber for your bathroom as product may stain light surfaces due to the charcoal
[ First impression ] The texture is a little grainy, and gloopy. Looks like a very dark grey almost black matter considering it is derived from charcoal. Actually, the first time I saw it it took me back to Year 8 science class when we were using magnets to attract the iron filings!
Considering Garnier states it’s a 3-in-1 Wash/Scrub/Mask I tried to use it separately for each of those purposes. However, I felt like even when I was “washing” my face, due to the finely milled particles, it still felt like I was exfoliating albeit lightly. I tend to only do physical exfoliation once or twice a week so this was a little concerning considering they claim it can be used as a daily face wash. From the first use it didn’t make my face feel super tight and I did feel extremely cleansed which is great.
As a mask I love how time-efficient and fuss-free it is. You only need 5 minutes or less for it to dry then you can rinse it off just using water - no need for an extra cloth. However my face did feel quite tight after use, but that’s to be expected with these kinds of masks.
In terms of removing makeup, which isn’t its sole intention, it didn’t do a good job, but I wouldn’t remove brownie points as the product is geared towards the removal and prevention of blackheads.
[ Review ] I don’t have blackheads to begin with so I’m not sure how effective it is against that, but I do suffer from whiteheads. Unfortunately this hasn’t diminished some annoyingly persistent closed comedones underneath my left eye or some papules I’ve noticed which is disheartening. But then again, I can probably attribute this to my earlier point of it focusing on blackhead prevention.
I’ve noticed that the skin on my cheeks has become quite soft which would have likely been caused by the overexfoliation. Also due to overexfoliating since using this every day and night as a “face wash”, my forehead gets extremely shiny by the end of a work day and quite oily around my nose.
One thing I did really like about it was how easy and efficient it is to use. Just squeeze out a smidge and spread it all over your face then rinse off. What I don’t like is how they proclaim it to be a 3-in-1 solution.
Overall, I’ve taken into account what Garnier have claimed, and my experience of using this product for all 3 purposes, and I do like it, but only as a scrub or mask - most especially as a mask! I can’t get over how quick and easy it is to do especially if you’re like me and start to get antsy about taking more than 10-15 minutes on just a mask. However, considering all the factors, I probably wouldn’t repurchase as there are other scrubs and masks in the market that I prefer over this, and that I personally feel work better for my skin.
Tips: I would strongly emphasise not to use this every day, and definitely not as a face wash. At most, probably once or twice a week as a scrub/exfoliant, and once a week for mask usage, preferably not done on the same days. In that way you won’t be stripping your face of all its natural oils due to overexfoliating and you can let your skin breathe. Always make sure to moisturise after every use!
My skin condition changes I am one of those women who if I have not been sleeping or eating well / partying / stressed you can see it on my face. Lucky for me though BR gave me the opportunity to review this product. I had actually tried it once or twice before as my younger teen age sister uses it. Apparently oil & Dirt make pores look larger but I think people just genetically have more visible or bigger pores than others. The good things about this product are: Charcoal. tthis can help sooth irratated itchy skin. This helps remove and grab out sebum/oil/impurities from the skin giving a great cleanse and mattifying result ideal for helping control black heads. It also helps to brighten Salicylic acid - this is widely used in skin care targeted at reducing acne. Natural yes natural exfoliating granules. Good for the environment & marine life. Extract of blueberries. An anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, scar reducing, anti-aging vitamin-rich berry promotes good skin cellular support structure, it neautralises free radicals, helps balance oil even out skin tone and improves skin elasticity as well as treating acne. Kaolin. A clay that exfoliates, polishes and has various properties depending on the type it is such as anti-aging oil & acne control. I called up Garnier to find out but have not heard back yet I will update when I do. These things may be a little off putting. Too much use of this product will dry out skin and or over stimulate it so more oil will be produced. The colour of the product - you would not want to get this on your clothing. Very sensitive people might react to the product and it is not ideal for dry skin. You must ensure you wash this off very well not just because of the colour but because the small exfoliating granules could become trapped in pores which could actually cause acne and blackheads. When I first used this my skin was a bit sore as I had been absent minded and put some of my shower gel on my face before I remembered I had this product to trail. Next time I had no irritation at all and it removed oil and. foundation it left skin feeling nice and soft. Ensure you moisturize after using this as it can be drying and some times you may feel you want to use a little more as this product provides quite a deep cleanse as well as exfoliation which prepares the skin to absorb your skin care products better than just using a regular cleanser. I like how this product is multipurpose so saves time space and money and I had fun giving my boyfriend a fright when using it as a mask. I would re buy this but It is not ideal to use everyday on my skin a few times a week is enough.
This is my newest favourite mask! I love that it has 3 uses wash, scrub and mask. It is really great for someone who loves to travel like me to save space on luggage.
I have used it for almost 3 weeks and I like its effect to my face. After one wash you can already see the difference. My face looks brighter and brighter everyday. The only downside for this is I don't think it has a brightening effect on my dark spots but it does brighten my whole face. It doesn't say that it would brighten my dark spots anyway but it does made my blackheads less visible. I like that it has done a good job on removing blackheads on my nose.
Overall, I like what it is doing to my face so I'll keep on using it and will buy another one when it runs out.
Charcoal is very on trend at the moment and I’m loving it. I was intrigued to be chosen to be part of the trial team for the Garnier Pure Active Charcoal 3 in 1 Mask, due to the fact that I haven’t used Garnier products since I was teenager. So, I was very curious to see how well this would work for me as an adult. The Garnier Pure Active Charcoal is a 3 in 1 Mask, which means it’s a facewash, scrub and mask all in one product. I’m not sure if there are ones suited for other skin types, but I received the Oily to Combination Skin Prone to Imperfection and I have oily skin. It comes in a 150ml black tube and costs $13.99, which I reckon is a reasonable price, considering I’ve used it every day for the last 3 weeks and I haven’t even used half the tube yet. The 3 in 1 mask is a thick black consistency, with course particles.
It’s crucial to remove all trace of makeup before applying it, especially the eye area as it’s not pleasant when the product goes into the eyes. Firstly, I used it as a face wash, which essentially is a scrub at the same time. I used a pea size amount and rubbed it on a wet face. My face felt fresh and clean afterwards. As the days went on, I noticed the little blackheads on my nose disappeared and the breakouts I had on my first week of using it, those disappeared as well. I also didn’t have any more breakouts during this whole trial period, which was amazing, because I would get breakouts on a weekly basis otherwise. The down side of it all, which I assume is due to the daily use of a scrub on my face, most of the oil on my face had been stripped off and left dry, flaky skin on my t-zone area. I also hoped that my scars left from previous breakouts would diminish due to the daily use of this product, but it didn’t.
I, then used the mask 2 times a week. It’s important to remove makeup which applying the mask as well and avoid the eyes. I used an almond size to cover my whole face and let it dry for 5 minutes before washing it off as instructed on the tube. I found that the mask didn’t dry out my skin and my face felt a lot fresher and awake. I applied the mask at night, because I was advised during a facial that the best time to rejuvenate the skin is at night because that’s when the skin is repairing itself and working it’s magic.
So, I do believe the Garnier Pure Active Charcoal 3 in 1 Mask does what it says it would and I think overall it’s a great product. Since it dries out my skins, I won’t use it every day as a face wash, but I’ll use it as a scrub and a mask 2-3 times a week. I recommend this to people who have extreme cases of breakouts and blackheads as I think it will benefit them the most to use it on a daily basis, especially teenagers. I wish I had this when I was a teenager, it would have made my awkward teenage years much easier.
Tips: Use moisturisers or serums on the face daily morning and night to keep the skin from drying out
This is a very thick and black face wash with fine exfoliating particles that work really well! Despite having salicylic acid, it has a very natural feeling about it, it does seem like charcoal is the main ingredient. I used this as a wash/scrub daily, some days I wouldn't take my makeup off beforehand. It does a great job of taking makeup off! Don't use it near the eyes though, your eyes will probably get quite dry. I have oily skin with very small blackheads that make it less smooth when applying makeup. This face wash definitely helped smooth out my skin, and I have noticed very slightly that my face is a bit less oily. This wash isn't aimed at people with acne, which makes sense, as I often get a few spots and that hasn't really changed due to this wash. When you use this, you can tell it is not a gentle cleanser, the active ingredients are quite intense, but it definitely doesn't feel harsh or drying. In fact, when you dry your face after washing it, your skin feels really smooth and soft which is amazing! It does have a bit of a weird smell but it's not bad enough to not want to use it. Also if you're not washing your hair, don't put it too close to your hairline as it might be a bit hard to wash out if you don't want to get your hair wet.
I can’t seem to find my original review so I’ll try again. I was lucky enough to be picked to trial this product and within the first week I noticed a massive difference in my skin. I tried using this daily but found it was a wee bit drying so I decided to use it 3 x a week and WOW. This 3 in 1 charcoal powerhouse literally halved the amount of blackheads on my face. As soon as I applied it I could feel my skin getting a deep clean and it was left glowing. As a mask it was ideal for those extra oily days (for me once a month) and really did leave my skin feeling squeaky clean. It is a thick charcoal paste with a pleasant earthy smell, easy to apply as it’s really thick and washes off with ease. I love this scrub so much I have given my other almost full scrubs away! It is definitely more suitable for an oily/combination skin tone but could be used by teenagers right through to someone with aging skin. Thanks Beauty Crew I don’t think I’ll ever use pore strips again after trialling this amazing scrub.
Actually very impresses with this product, I didn't have very high expectations going in as I usually opt for more expensive skin care. I have combination skin with dry cheeks and an oily T-section and a few blackheads on my nose. I also got my boyfriend to use it, he has very oily skin and is prone to quite a lot of breakouts and has a lot of blackheads on his nose. We've been using this as a wash and scrub everyday for the past couple of weeks (and still have some left), we used it as a mask once but didn't get any benefit we weren't already getting from washing with it so didn't bother again. The smell is amazing and it spreads on really easily and the exfoliating bits felt so nice on my skin. It didn't dry out my skin after application either which I find to be a problem with a lot of products and need to slather on moisturiser, it actually felt really nice and only had to apply a light layer. It hasn't really done anything for our blackheads but I wasn't really expecting it to, those suckers are tricky! It has made are skin super soft though and my boyfriend's skin cleared up completely after only a couple of uses. the only thing that is a bit of a bummer and would deter us using this product again is that we prefer to buy cruelty free products which is really disappointing because this product is honestly so good and would probably be a regular in our shopping trolly otherwise.
This is possibly my favourite cleanser for 2018. After trying many cleansers and scrubs to remove my blackheads and shrink my pores I had quite low expectations for this product. But this product blew me away. After my first time using this product my skin felt smooth and most of my blackheads were gone. I've been using this product for about 3 weeks and I will definitely repurchase. I use it either every second day or whenever I wear makeup. The scrub feature is my favourite part as the particles are fine enough that it can be used every second day without damaging the skin, but is also coarse enough that it exfoliates the skin leaving it nice and smooth while removing your blackheads. This product also helps reduce shine which is perfect for me who personally has oily skin. I love how this product doesn't leave the skin feeling tight and dry. I also tried this as a mask on my teenage brother's chin after seeing he had a couple blackheads. I left it on for about 5-10 mins and after washing it off most of the blackheads were reduced.
Tips: Always follow up with either a moisturiser or the rest of the 10 step skincare routine like I do.
