I use this stuff once a week as a treatment, it smells sooo good! I absolutely hate bananas but this smells more fruity and yum. I apply after shampoo then cover my head in a shower cap then hair turban to keep it covered. If you heat your hair it will penetrate better so I sit in front of the heater for half an hour, then rinse it out. It leaves my hair very moisturised but can be a bit heavy if you don't fully rinse it. Overall great for dry hair and reasonably cheap too!

Tips: Rinse out fully if your hair is low porosity and prone to build up or looking sad and limp
I bought this from Countdown when they were having a sale, and I do not regret it. This is by far the best smelling hair product I've ever given my nose the pleasure of smelling. The banana is so sweet and candy like, it reminds me of fruit bursts without the cavities.
It's thick but easily spreadable, so makes for applying in hair easy peasy. You never need a lot but it just smells too darn good to stop. I actually wish the scent was more potent so it perfumed my hair! I also find that using this all three ways doesnt weigh down my hair, or make it greasy. It's da bomb!
It's also the best (in my opinion) in the range. I used it after swimming at the beach and my hair felt brand new, it was so soft and conditioned, it was like I'd just washed it not subjected it to salty water for a couple of hours. It's so hydrating and its just. Literally the best. I'll be repurchasing when I run out!
I've been a regular user of Fructis Hair Food - the banana 'flavour', especially, for 4 years now.
I have naturally curly hair and when transitioning back to natural hair from having my hair chemically straightened, the banana hair food was my number one. Can be used as a co-wash, conditioner, leave-in treatment, and a mask. Very versatile! :)
The texture is nice and thick, so it is great for thick hair. My hair feels SO hydrated both when it's in and once I wash it out.
It smells so yum - the smell lingers in the hair too. And it is available at an affordable price point at most supermarkets (which usually have sales, bringing the price down further.)
Tips: It is a thick formula and can tend to weigh down finer hair. So probably wouldn't be suited to those with finer hair.
Not a huge fan of this one. Sure it made hair feel nice but I didn’t think it was anything marvellous. The smell I found to be very strong and overwhelming, and lingered long after putting the product in.
If you like banana smoothies, you'll love the smell of this product! If you use it as a conditioner or hair mask, washing it out afterwards, you still get a pleasant lingering smell. The smell is a lot stronger if you leave it in.
As a conditioner, I would rate it about average in effectiveness, in comparison to other supermarket brands. My hair didn't feel any softer than usual, even when I used it as a mask, but nor did my hair feel as dry as when I don't use conditioner at all.
As a leave in treatment, I was worried it would be greasy and stain my pillowcase, but actually it wasn't too bad. But it was a little too oily and smelled too strong for me to leave in during the day.
I admire the attempt at producing something that's based on natural ingredients, although just because something is natural doesn't mean it's good for you. The ingredients list has a lot of healthy sounding items in it, alongside a list of chemicals that have 'vegetable origin' or are 'perfume or plant derived'. This is where I get cynical and don't buy into the marketing, as everything is made up of chemicals and originating from plants doesn't necessarily make them safe! But kudos for appearing to try.
I think this would be a good product for children and young adults in particular, due to the fresh, sweet smell and possibly healthier ingredients list. I can imagine myself loving this as a child,
Tips: Add a small amount to your hair before going to bed, to give it an overnight treatment.
I really liked this product. It has a lovely natural banana scent which isn't too overpowering. The white cream is a nice thick consistency which is easy to apply. No nasty ingredients is a big bonus too. I used this in place of my normal conditioner on my dry hair and it made my limp hair full of body and shiny. As a leave-in I wasn't so impressed when I used it per instructions, as it weighed my hair down but still made it appear shiny. However when I diluted some in a spray bottle with some water and sprayed it on it gave the shine without the droop. My fave way to use this was as a mask. I left it in for 30 mins and then rinsed it out and it gave my hair body and shine for 2-3 days which is something I find very rare with my mane. One huge selling point is the price. It really is affordable and easy to find. I wasn't too keen on the packaging as coordination isn't my strong point and I found closing the lid without letting water in difficult. It does look nice in the bathroom though and has clear labeling of all ingredients
Tips: Turn it into a spray leave-in if you find it too heavy
Let me start off by saying WOW. I have coloured hair and it is more on the dry side. I am really impressed with this product. Previously, I had been using olaplex on my hair with okay results. This miracle in a jar blew that out of the water! I used it all three ways to see which was the best for me. Damp/dry hair, after conditioner, and as a conditioner. This is crazy because I have always used hydrating conditioners and then a treatment and the best result for me was using this in place of my conditioner, left on a couple of mins and rinsed out. When I used it the other ways I felt it did the same but wasted more product(s). My hair felt SO smooth while I was rinsing it out and I was already impressed. I thought it would dry out with the blow dryer but NOPE. After blow drying my hair, it was so soft and I had hardly any frizz to control! This product is so inexpensive and is a super natural product. Full of good stuff, leaving the toxic chemicals in the dust, and the smell would make any minion go crazy. I absolutely LOVE the smell. It stays in your hair after you shower a little bit but it becomes more of a mature fragrance and it’s really just beautiful. My boyfriend keeps commenting on how good my hair smells. I know I will be using this for a very long time. I have already gone online and ordered 3 of these babies to send to a couple of my friends. Truly a life changer for my hair!
Tips: Try it if you have dry hair! It will become your hair’s soul mate!
I never thought I would say this about a Garnier Haircare product but this is hands down the best supermarket brand hair mask I have EVER used. It may even be the best hair mask on the market today. This trial couldn’t have come at a better time as I had an appointment booked to get my hair lightened this week. I used the hair mask a couple of times before my appointment in place of my usual conditioner and my hair was left feeling incredibly soft and smooth and it looked amazing.
For the record I started with half a head of bleached blonde and half a head of natural light brown regrowth. My hair is very sensitive to bleach and I’m not one of the lucky ones who can get away with bleaching their hair over and over - it will snap and dry out even after a few foils. After my appointment my hair was left feeling dry and brittle so I used the mask as an overnight treatment (I coated my hair and slept on a towel) and washed it out in the morning. I couldn’t believe how amazing this left my freshly bleached hair! It was as if I had never lightened it. Again - soft, smooth, shiny and hydrated! It even left my hair feeling better than my usual (very expensive) Moroccanoil conditioner. It doesn’t leave your hair feeling greasy or heavy which is impressive for a product that is SO hydrating.
I’ve had very little breakage since I had my hair coloured and I truly believe it’s from this mask! The texture is creamy and rich and it smells SO GOOD! I love the scent of bananas and this doesn’t smell artificial or too sweet. It’s a very strong freshly mashed banana scent and leaves you feeling like a human dessert. Which some people may not enjoy but how could you not!?
Overall this is my new favourite hair product and I’ll be repurchasing it again and again. This is probably one of my favourite trial products I’ve ever used!
Tips: Buy it. Just go and buy it!
It was love at first wash! This is a seriously good hair mask or one-wash treatment, and it smells good enough to eat. I adore the container, as it means no scrabbling to get the last of the product (I have wasted the last part of so many expensive hair products due to the packaging and it really annoys me - not so with this product). I only left it in for about 30 seconds on both washes, and yet my hair has been much silkier and softer. And all for a much more reasonable price compared to other hair mask brands! And trust me, my hair is dry and brittle, due to being fine and bleached blonde at the hairdresser's every 5-6 weeks. I'm really impressed. I'd like to buy again, I just want to clarify Garnier's cruelty-free stance as there seems to be mixed information on the interwebs. But this really is a great product.
