First off, I need to let you know that I don't wash my dry hair too often, so I was only able to use it once in the trial period. I'm making a mental note to come back and update this review once I've used it a few more times, as one of the things I LOVED about this product was the multi-tasking nature of the product.
While I put my name down to try a hair mask, I was pleased to find on the tub it gave information on how to use it as a conditioner, a hair mask, or as a leave-in treatment. I'm trying to streamline my beauty products, so this was a big plus in my book.
I don't think I've ever done a hair mask before, so this was how I tried the product. As a bonus, it only said to leave it in for one minute. I left it in for much longer, but it was good to know I didn't need to have a super lengthy shower - or worse, two showers - to get the benefits of the product.
The tub is a nice big sturdy thing with plenty of product that is easy to scoop out - much better than those conditioner containers that leave you struggling to get the last of the product out, then in a quandary as to how to wash it properly for recycling.
The product smelt delicious. I'm not a fan of overly strong fragrances, so I was nervous about that, but this one smelt good, which made it a pleasure to rub into my hair.
The big question - did I notice a difference in my hair? To be honest, I didn't. Maybe this is because I'm a wash-and-go type girl, never spending long drying and styling my hair, or maybe I was expecting too much, but I didn't notice a difference to when I used straight conditioner. This may be because my hair wasn't too dry at the time, so I'll be interested to see how I go tonight, when I'm going to use it again having just coloured my hair.
At this point, while it's a decent conditioning product, with a lovely smell and great packaging, it's not a must-have. Watch this space for an update when I've got through more of the tub!
The product smells very nice upon opening. The scent reminds me of shea butter products. It had a nice thick ’n‘ creamy consistency, i think perfect for a hair mask.
I enjoyed using it both as a 1) hair mask and 2) a conditioner as it both left me with light and soft hair for three days, together with a nice lingering fragrance that wasn’t too strong for me. My fine black hair after drying felt soft, very light and hence, straight and easy to comb.
I enjoyed trialling it out as a hair mask, as It’s not something i often use. I feel the next time i use it, i should try it leave it in longer and see what happens.
The second time; in which i used it as a conditioner, i realised the smell wasn’t as strong and nutty as the first time. But maybe because i got so use to the smell already? Or that i didn’t use enough this time?
The product was easy to apply. It glides on easily onto wet hair. Didn’t feel too heavy nor slimy for me which makes it easy and quick to wash off, without the feeling of having to rinse again.
However, i wasn’t too fond of using it as a leave-in hair treatment, as the consistency i feel was too thick and heavy for a leave-in. I think i used too much than I should have.
There wasn’t any applicators that came with the product, nor any instructions on how much to apply, which means I had to dig into it with my hands a few times trying to guess an appropriate amount for the first time i used it, and trying not to wet the inside of the container at the same time.
Overall, I prefer to use it as a mask or conditioner. It would have been better if it gave my dry hair a little bit more hydration though... as it didn’t end up as smooth as i would have expected It to. However, im willing to try out other fragrances of hair food in this line in the future.
Tips: Store it in a dry place.
Use very little if using as a leave-in. Can brush it in using a comb for more even application.
