I was so excited to trial this product due to my hair needing to anti frizz as it has got out of control but I just want wanting to cut it as I love the length so I tried this as soon as I received it at first I used it as a mask for my hair I shampooed and conditioned then applied the mask and left in for the 1 minute it stated I then rinsed it out and I have to say the smell was not pleasant at all it smelt like wet bark I couldn't wait to rinse it out and o was dressing what my hair was going to smell like because I this I towered dried my hair it felt nice but not silky smooth like when u have filled your hair up with silicon based products and I have to say the smell was ok after that I let my hair dry naturally and it looked promising but my hair continued to frizz the drier it got so my 2nd 3rd 4th etc attempts went ok just the smell really hits a bad note with me I dont think I would choose to buy this macadamia 1 again but would look at the rest of the range as each time I have used it it has made a difference in my hairs manageability so i would recommend to shop round all the different 1s within this range and find the right 1 for u i love love love it is all natural that is awesome I used it in all 3 ways as a conditioner a mask and as a leave in I found as a xonditer and a mask it does the trick just found it abit heavy to use as a leave in on my hair and I couldn't have the full force of the smell of it on me like that

Tips: Get the right one for u
I was very keen to try this product as it is 98% natural and from a reputable brand. I was surprised to see how large the container was... all 390grams, so it will last for ages!! I love the smell and although the product is thick it didn't seem at all greasy. I used it as a mask, and got excellent coverage from just a small amount. I didn't feel weighed down with it and it was super easy to rinse off. I dried my hair naturally and was rewarded with soft manageable hair, that feel like it has been loved, instead of the usual dry unruly mess!!
Tips: It's messy stuff so next time I'll portion out what I need before I get started rather than get the bathroom in a mess!
I’ve tested out Garnier Fructis Macadamia Hair Food quite thoroughly on my hair now and used it in the three different ways suggested - as a conditioner, a hair mask and a leave-in treatment. I’ll go into more detail a bit later on in this review about these three uses.
Clearly, with three haircare uses, this product is versatile and economical. You get quite a lot of it, in a decent-sized tub. The tub looks like a big pottle of frozen yoghurt or ice cream! What a novel way to package a hair ‘food’ product! It looks good enough to eat and has a kind of yoghurt-like texture to it too (don’t worry, no haircare product was eaten for the purpose of this review!). The actual smell of it though didn’t blow me away. It’s pleasant enough – it smells a bit like caramel or something sweet enough to eat – but perhaps it’s just not the kind of smell I want to plaster all over my hair. But I didn’t hate the smell as it’s not offensive or overpowering. But a big tick for me is that it’s mostly natural, with no parabens/artificial colours etc. Lovely, natural ingredients make up 98% of it, including macadamia seed oil, coconut oil, almond oil, etc.
Now for the three ways you can use this product:
1) LEAVE-IN TREATMENT: I tried using this as a leave-in on dry hair a couple of times, but it just felt too heavy in my hair and I wanted to rinse it out straight away - not ‘leave it in’ at all! It felt too concentrated as a leave-in. The other thing I found was that I couldn’t really rub it in evenly on to dry hair: it was hard to apply and ended up in my hair in patches, which felt heavy and greasy.
2) HAIR MASK: this was a better option for me as I found it easier to apply to wet hair. Using it as a mask also suited me better because I could rinse it out after applying it (you only need to leave it in for one minute).
3) CONDITIONER: WOW! My hair loves this stuff when I just use it as a simple conditioner! It leaves my hair feeling silkier and more hydrated. This is my favourite way to use this product and I’ll continue to use it as a conditioner.
All things considered, this Smoothing Macadamia Hair Food gets four kisses from me. I didn’t like using it as a leave-in treatment. However, it does a decent job as a mask or conditioner. And you know it must be gentle and kind on your hair when it contains so many gorgeous natural ingredients.
It’s fair to say that, in the past, I’ve not been that complimentary of Garnier products, as is obvious in a previous review I’ve done on this site. But clearly I need to try out a few more Garnier products as I reckon they’re on to a good thing with this Hair Food! I’m keen to try out some of the other ‘flavours’ in this range now. I’ll just have to hold back on the temptation to eat any of them!!
Tips: You don’t need to use a lot of this, it’s quite a concentrated product so a little seems to go a long way.
I was sent this as a tester, as soon as it arrived in the courier I could smell it! It wasn't a bad smell though, it is quite strong so it may dominate anything else you have on if you use it as a leave-in, I personally like it. 1st time I used it as a leave-in, which is my favourite way of using any hair product - no excuses! I love how it can be used as a conditioner, a mask or a leave-in. As a leave-in I noticed immediately my hair looked good, I have coarse Asian hair and prone to frizzing and becoming too poofy, this really tamed my hair and this was the first time I left home without having to tie my hair up, which says a lot. 2nd time I used it as a mask, my hair felt soft afterwards and the smell wasn't as strong but it left a nice fragrance. P.S. love the size and how non-greasy it is in the hands, would buy!
Tips: Make sure you're ok with the smell before you get it as it can be too strong for some people.
I use a hair treatment weekly but since the Garnier Fructis Hair Food arrived I have done the procedure each day.
What a generously sized tub! The thick and creamy product has a gentle, clean and sweet fragrance and it's a pleasure to use. The tub had an easy screw-off but safely secure lid and it's colouring and design are appealing since the "macadamia" ingredient was the hair food's focus.
Approximately one tablespoonful provides ample supply for each treatment, which the product instructions suggested be done in three different ways. I tested all three. As a conditioner, the hair food was "too good", although my hair did benefit. As a mask, the hair food was perfect, its qualities remained in my hair for the next 24 hours, leaving a sleek, shiny finish. It felt nourished and soft. My hair is short so therefore not very unruly, although without regular good cuts it does become this way - not so with the hair food which gave an "under control" finish for the day. The third method was a leave-in which I did try but did not like much. I was anxious to "wash it out" and after a few hours I did so. Possibly I need to adjust to the newer methods of using dry hair products!
As with other Garnier hair care products, I assume this one is fairly priced although I cannot confirm as it is not on sale locally as yet. I will definitely be purchasing this hair food in future, I am most satisfied with the results and ease of use of Garnier's intense conditioner. To note "no parabens and no silicones or artificial colourants" is reassuring indeed.
Tips: Just go for it, kind to skin, eyes and beautifully caring for your hair.
I trailed Garnier Fructis Macadamia Hair Food in all three ways suggested - a conditioner, a hair mask and a leave-in. The generous tub shouts good value and I personally loved the nutty smell of the product. It is quite strong, not to dissimilar to comparing the smell of using coconut oil products). The natural products and clearly identifying this on the ingredients is smart marketing and easy to understand on the packaging.
My fav use was as a hair mask, my hair felt like it was being treated and smelt wonderful and was smooth once it dried. As a conditioner, I did not find much difference to make it stand out from any other conditioner. I do have thick Asian hair, so on using as a conditioner, the product didn't immediately untangle my wet hair when I ran my fingers through it. As a leave-in conditioner, I felt the product smoothed my hair and gave it shine but felt heavy/ flat, so volume was missing. I did find I got dandruff after using this product, and I don't normally get dry scalp. So possibly this particular 'flavour' hair food wasn't right for me, although I do get fly aways. I will keep on using this to see if this improves or not.
In general, I do find the tub packaging a little inconvenient, as prefer something that is easy to use in the shower with one hand - a pump or squeeze bottle.
So in summary: love the smell, the natural ingredients and the smoothness of the result.
Tips: Select the right hair food for your hair type for optimum results.
I was really pleasantly surprised with the size of the tub. The contents was near full and was a great first impression. The tub itself is beautiful and the hair food smells lovely. Not too strong but very pleasant.
I tried it all three ways stated on the container. The first day I tried it I used it as a Leave-in Conditioner and I found this great on the dry ends of my hair because I get such staticky hair and this calmed it down really well. Next I tried it as a conditioner and wasn't too impressed. I felt my hair look oily and dirty after using it but I didn't wash it out until a few days later when I washed my hair and used the product sparingly as a hair mask. After that wash my hair looked great. Silky and smooth and well moisturised.
I feel this product does what it says and I will definitely continue to use it and recommend it to my friends.
Tips: Use this product sparingly. You may not get immediate results but once your hair adjusts to the change in product it will fell great.
The product smells very nice upon opening. The scent reminds me of shea butter products. It had a nice thick ’n‘ creamy consistency, i think perfect for a hair mask.
I enjoyed using it both as a 1) hair mask and 2) a conditioner as it both left me with light and soft hair for three days, together with a nice lingering fragrance that wasn’t too strong for me. My fine black hair after drying felt soft, very light and hence, straight and easy to comb.
I enjoyed trialling it out as a hair mask, as It’s not something i often use. I feel the next time i use it, i should try it leave it in longer and see what happens.
The second time; in which i used it as a conditioner, i realised the smell wasn’t as strong and nutty as the first time. But maybe because i got so use to the smell already? Or that i didn’t use enough this time?
The product was easy to apply. It glides on easily onto wet hair. Didn’t feel too heavy nor slimy for me which makes it easy and quick to wash off, without the feeling of having to rinse again.
However, i wasn’t too fond of using it as a leave-in hair treatment, as the consistency i feel was too thick and heavy for a leave-in. I think i used too much than I should have.
There wasn’t any applicators that came with the product, nor any instructions on how much to apply, which means I had to dig into it with my hands a few times trying to guess an appropriate amount for the first time i used it, and trying not to wet the inside of the container at the same time.
Overall, I prefer to use it as a mask or conditioner. It would have been better if it gave my dry hair a little bit more hydration though... as it didn’t end up as smooth as i would have expected It to. However, im willing to try out other fragrances of hair food in this line in the future.
Tips: Store it in a dry place.
Use very little if using as a leave-in. Can brush it in using a comb for more even application.
I really loved this product. It is so versatile. I loved that I had so many ways of using it. As a conditioner it detangled beautifully and the yummy fragrance was simply devine. My hair was left soft and shiny. After using it as a hair mask my hair felt well nourished and looked lovely. I especially liked the short amount of time required to leave it in. My favourite way of using though was as a leave in conditioner. My normally frizzy hard to manage curls were soft, defined curls - with no frizz and no greasiness! I was happily surprised by the results. The light weight texture made it so easy to use. I definitely recommend using this product.
The tub is a very generous size and will last a long time. The smell was pleasant and it did leave hair feeling soft and manageable. However it did not wow me like some other products have done before.
