Garnier Fructis Hair Food Watermelon Shampoo

I got this from the beauty vault. I notice at the moment it seems to be sold out from the shelves in supermarkets and the warehouse stores that I've visited. People seem to be really interested in trying it. I have tried several of the others this is the newest in the line of Garnier hair food products which also explains why it's being sold out. The scent is like watermelon lollies and I was smelling something else as I lathered my hair with it after some sniffing around I think what I was smelling was lemon grass or tea tree. Not sure if I love the scent as much as some of the others but the hair food line from the Garnier brand is definitely been my preference for conditioners for a long time. My hair feels quite soft right now and clean I did feel like I needed conditioner after use and that this could be somewhat like a clarifying shampoo. My scalp and hair were quite oily before I used it the first time. While the scent is very yummy I don't think it lingers in the hair as much as the other flavours like the banana for example. Volume - I don't really notice. If you use this too much it might be a bit drying but generally like this and will definitely keep using this range.

I was pretty excited to smell this shampoo, and I really like it. It smells just like watermelon, sweet, clean and not too strong a scent. The shampoo itself is clear, which for some reason I really like.

The shampoo lathers really well, and you don't need to use too much. It also rinses out easily, which is great for my kids who always seem to leave shampoo and conditioner in their hair if it takes more than a nanosecond to rinse out.

I found that the shampoo left my hair really clean, and this might sound weird, but 'normal' feeling. It didn't feel weighed down, it felt clean, but it also didn't feel overly soft or smooth after washing. I think if you had fine healthy hair, this shampoo would be perfect. My daughter has fine wavy hair and it is great for her. My hair is fine, but greying and I have baby hairs, and this shampoo left the grey hairs feeling a bit coarse and I had crazy fly always. I would say it gave my hair volume, but just lacking in smoothness.

I would use this shampoo when I know I'm going to put some effort into my hair (product, curling etc) as it did give volume but needs to be used in combination with some smoothing/shine type product for me personally.

I would buy this again for my daughter though, the smell makes her want to wash her hair, and it suits her healthy fine hair more than mine I think.

A sweet and fruity scented clear gel based shampoo that smells like a fruit smoothie, and somehow it reminded me of the Hubba bubba chewing gum. The froth was nice and thick and it felt so kind to my fingers. It froths up surprisingly well and was comfortable and relaxing massaging all that foamy goodness around my scalp. It was nice and moist with none of that oil stripping feel, while feeling clean. I love how it doesn’t weight down my hair, nor does it tangle up my hair in a ball of mess while cleaning like some shampoos do. Some shampoos, especially those that give me the squeaky clean feel, leaves me in a knotty mess which i end up losing quite a bit of hair trying to pull my fingers out of. It wasn’t a problem for this one. My fingers felt free and my hair was just bathing in foamy happiness.

Garnier Fructis Hair Food Watermelon Shampoo comes in a fun, brightly coloured bottle. It's easy to open which is a must in the shower. I liked that the packaging is made with 50% recycled plastic and is recyclable and the formula is 96% biodegradable. The shampoo smells like fresh sweet watermelon and leaves your hair smelling delicious. It foams up nicely and is easy to rinse away leaving hair feeling fresh and clean. My hair was left noticeably softer and fuller. The only drawback was my very fine hair needed a product to tame the fluffiness, but it definitely creates volume.

I have fine, thin, flat, smooth silky hair naturally.

Packaging - very colourful, eye catching and appealing, great that it is recyclable too. Fragrance- I love that the smell is so refreshing, not overpowering watermelon smell. However, when I have washed it off my hair, the smell became so subtle, I can barely smell the watermelon. I feel though that certainly my hair felt cleansed after use.

Volume -I usually leave my hair to airdry. This shampoo surprisingly did not leave my hair flat, I can see that my hair has a slight bounce and volume.

Con- personally, I cannot use this product on its own, it left my hair a bit dry. Very cleansed but not smooth or silky.

I will not buy this on its own, just because in order to use this and to work well for me, I need to also purchase either the conditioner or hair food mask or both.

I love the bottle. It has a solid cap and would be good for travelling. Didn't think the lid would open easily which is a win for me. The first thing I did was smell this and I was honestly surprised it didn't appeal like I thought it would. There wasn't the typical watermelon fragrance and I think this is what put me off initially. But once I used this my hair was delicious smelling. The shampoo was easy to get out the bottle and only needed a small amount for my shoulder length hair. Easy to lather and rinse, didn't leave my hair feeling heavy and had a clean feel. Once hair was dried it wasn't flat or dull so very happy since I have fine hair.

I bought the shampoo and conditioner combo as I have fine hair and liked that most of the ingredients are natural/vegan. The shampoo lathers up well and fills the shower with that fresh watermelon smell. I wash my hair quite frequently and found this shampoo to be a bit drying for my hair, despite also using the conditioner which left me with a bit of a frizzy mess. In terms of volume, I didn't really notice a difference with my hair, although it looked and felt well cleansed. This shampoo would probably be better suited for someone who only washes their hair once a week or so.

Let's start with the pro's of this product: - The fragrance: Oh. My. Gosh. Think summer fruit cocktails at a bbq with friends. This fragrance is DIVINE, and smells almost good enough to drink (please refrain from doing this, but it is THAT good!). It's 96% Vegan and no 'nasties' which is always a good thing, especially when it comes to my precious mane. The promise of more volume came through, although there was a catch, see the not so great stuff paragraph below. You have to always give a product props when it delivers on its marketing promises. Value for money: I loved how little I needed of this product to get a good lather going and it made my hair feel squeaky clean. A little really does go a long way and one of these 350ml bottles would actually last me for weeks. Now for the not so great stuff: although this product delivered on its 'more volume' promise, unfortunately it came at the expense of softness and shine. By the end of the trial period my hair was noticeably 'rougher' and a lot less shiny than normal. I was also struggling to get a wide tooth comb through my hair when it was wet after washing with this product. Unfortunately the divine smell and other pros of this product don't outweigh the not so great stuff, which was so disappointing as I would have gladly switched my normal haircare regime for these products - which is the highest praise I can give any product.

The shampoo lathered really nicely. It left my hair feeling really clean. I didn’t notice a massive difference in the volume of my hair but I did like the shampoo.
