Love this for my hair! The smell of the bar I didn’t like to start with but I got used to it! Have never used a shampoo bar before and was a little unsure about it but it’s super easy and takes up way less space than a bottle ha. Would definitely recommend! I used it with the hair food conditioner and my hair is so soft! Plus my kids keep telling me how amazing my hair smells!

I was excited to receive this. Although I was sadly disappointed. After washing my hair as directed, my hair afterwards felt very tangled and there was hardly no smell at all. On getting up the following morning my hair felt greasy, dull and very knotted and unruly. I love the convenience of the bar and it might just be my hair (mid length, thick) but I felt like I needed to wash my hair with normal shampoo afterwards.
This was the first shampoo bar I had used. I have been hesitant to use shampoo bars in the past as I have heard they can be quite drying however this one was great. My hair felt so soft and smooth after using this. My husband even started using it!! The only down side is that it can be a bit messy if left in the shower so make sure it is left in a dry place when not using.
'I was soo excited to use this product! Loved the way it arrived and smelt so amazing. Packaging was minimal and it really just looked like a nicely shaped bar of soap. It lathered up wonderfully in the shower and foamed yo in my hair great too. Silky type of formula which rubbed into the hair and scalp easily. I didn’t have to rub the soap much to get enough product lathered up in my hands so long term this bar would last ages! I have thin stranded hair but a lot of it. The first time I used the bar I found that after my hair dried it was frizzy and had not washed out properly at the roots. I wondered if I hadn’t used enough product so I trialed different amounts over the two weeks and again found it just did not wash my hair properly at the roots. I ended up with horrible dry ends and greasy roots that just wouldn’t budge. For someone with dry hair they may not have the same problem or for someone else they may not experience the level of build up from the product I ended up with. For the price and as a one off for travelling I would probably use again as transportation wise it’s much easier than carrying a bottle of shampoo around. I absolutely love the concept but the product just did not work for me regardless of how I tried to use it. Such a shame as everything else about the product is great.
I hadn’t previously used a shampoo bar until I tried Garnier Fructis watermelon Hair food. I was pleased to see the shampoo bar I received was for fine hair, plus it also mentioned volumising on the box which my hair definitely needs. The scent of the shampoo and conditioner I use is quite important to me, and thankfully the watermelon scented bar is absolutely lovely.
The directions tell you to rub the bar directly onto your hair from roots to tips. I found it easier to lather it slightly in my hands first before transferring it into my hair. This could be partly from the habit of using liquid shampoos and conditioners.
I was a little surprised that it didn’t feel too different to washing my hair with my liquid shampoo, once I actually got the shampoo lather in my hair. The scent of the bar is really fresh and lasts throughout the day. My hair also felt really soft after using both the shampoo and conditioner.
Our shower storage is not set up for shampoo/conditioner bars so I needed to store it out of the shower until I had bought a little soap storage dish.
I love how environmentally friendly the whole package and bar is compared to plastic bottled shampoo. I would definitely recommend Garnier Fructis watermelon shampoo bar for anyone thinking of switching to a more eco friendly shampoo option.
Tips: Store the bar in a dry place between washes.
This bar was easy to use and the first time I tried it, I just wet it and then ran it down my hair three times. It lathered up really quickly and smelt lovely. I found that you could also just rub it in your hands and then add that to your hair to get a lovely, rich lather. I did find that it left my hair a little 'stripped' and on one occasion, a bit knotty. It did, however, smell lovely and clean my hair. Also, a great eco-friendly product.
I was very lucky to be selected for the trial of Garnier Fructis Hair Food Watermelon and Garnier Hair Food Shampoo Bar – Watermelon therefore my results are the combination of both products working together.
The first thing I noticed with this product is the strong watermelon fragrance. That got me worried because sometimes strong perfumes give me headaches. Yes, everyone at home knows when I have washed my hair because of the nice aroma in the bathroom but my hair only had a subtle aroma, just the fresh smell but nothing overpowering so no headaches, yeah!
As I have never used shampoo bars before, I was wondering how the experience was going to be and… what a surprise, you use it exactly as you will do a soap bar!! Easy, no fuss.
My hair feels nice, and it lasts - it stays cleaner for longer than with my normal shampoo, which from now on, it is going to be my old shampoo because I am now addicted to Garnier Hair Food Shampoo Bar – Watermelon. I love the smell, how my hair feels, and it is so much better for the planet because no plastic container. Well…. I still use a plastic container to store the bar after use but it is just ONE container for the multiple bars to use in the future.
Well I was pleasantly surprised by this shampoo bar. I have fine hair and this product definitely lifted my hair making it feel bouncy and more full. I wasn't sold on the scent, it definitely wouldn't be my first choice. I love the fact it comes in a little box which is great for landfill. I did find it a little strange using the bar the first few times but it does lather up nicely and my hair does feel nice and clean. I do wash my hair every day and felt it dried my hair out a bit so I would recommend using a hair mask or conditioner as well. All and all a great product that I will be happy to continue to use.
I wasn’t convinced that I could wash my hair successfully with a soap bar.... you can!
I have long fine hair, in the shower I would wet my hair and the soap bar, I’d lather the soap bar a little bit and then run my hands and the soap through my hair, from the scalp down.
To my surprise, the soap lathered up heaps and very easily.
I washed my hair as usual and rinsed.
I believe my hair washed very well and felt great (better than some of the traditional shampoos)
I’m not convinced that I would have guessed the aroma was watermelon if I hadn’t read the label - though the aroma was fine (not over powering).
My only issue is our shower isn’t really made for two soap dishes!
I was very interested to test a shampoo bar. As much as I am sold on the environmental benefits of using a bar, the watermelon scented Garnier Hair Food Shampoo Bar is not appropriate for thick hair. It didn't nourish my hair and left it dry.
The bar is light (60g) and fits well in the hand. It is easy to use. You wet your hair and the bar, rub the bar from the roots et voilà. It nicely foams and smells like watermelon. The bar will last long, up to the equivalent of 1 bottle of 500ml.
As of June 2022 the price of the shampoo bar at a NZ supermarkets is $18. A bottle of shampoo from Garnier is $12 for 850ml. Due to the results experienced with this specific product, it is not worth the money for me. However, I would be keen to try a bar more relevant to my hair type to reassess my opinion.
The packaging is appealing and recyclable. The formula of the bar is vegan and 98% biodegradable with no preservatives, artificial colourants, silicone or plastic waste.
I have already talked about it to friends. I think the bar is a great way to protect the environment.
Tips: Wet your hair and the bar well before use.
