I got this in the beauty box. I'm glad I got the watermelon one as I love melon scents. For starters, I like watermelon scents although I can smell the melon it seems to be melon and something else, like melon and some spice at the end. It would be better to just be melon. Now if you read its 94% plant origin, you'd assume it's sulfate-free but has sodium coco-sulfate. Compared to my usual shampoo brand the Garnier one really lathers up while the other brand bubbles up. I double shampoo my hair each wash and my scalp felt clean. I don't think I had more volume than I did with my normal shampoo bar. It did the job but I don't think I'd repurchase because I prefer my usual sulfate-free brand and I'd prefer if the scent was just watermelon but I will use this one up.

Tips: Store in a soap dish with a tray to drain the water so it can dry in-between uses that will make the bars last longer.
So I bought a bulk online and one of these came in it. I have just tried the banana shampoo bar so was interested to see this one. Unfortunately I think my bar although unopened is old it does not smell like watermelon it's not a nice scent. It looks very much the same tear drop type of shape as the banana and close in colour which is like an off yellow. Results were similar to the banana bar but not as pleasant. When I see one on the shelf in a store I'll give it a sniff because I think mine might be past it's best before given it's scent. I plan to melt it down with the banana one and add some fragrance oils and remould it for using. I've not tried the solid conditioner bars of this brand yet and I can say im not in a hurry to. I'm pleased I got this in a bulk and not paid full price. Results are clean hair and lathered okay in my hand - not as easily as the banana. I look forward to trying this again once I've blended it with other shampoo bars and my fragrance / essential oils for a nicer smell and more pretty to look at solid shampoo. On that note I really do like the bottle versions and hair food conditioner tubs of this line and have been using them for years
First, I love how compact and easy to store this magical bar of delight!
This is the first shampoo bar I've used. The watermelon scent reminded me of summer, think watermelon sorbet, yum!
I didn't notice too much difference to my hair, plus good things take time so I'm looking forward to seeing the effects as I continue to use this little bar of goodness.
Super easy to use, it's hand sized so your not knocking yourself in the face with a cake of soap...just me?
I'm definitely going to try some different flavors in the future too.
Tips: Keep your eyes shut when shampooing.
I love shampoo in a bar they last well... this one was no exception first off it smells divine easy to use lathers very well way more than expected its hard to tell if a shampoo is helping in such a short time especially when you have perimenopause hair so much going on to fix, hair felt clean after use and quite soft for just the shampoo part would use again.
Tips: make sure to have a good soap dish to keep shampoo bar dry between uses.
This was my first time using a Shampoo Bar so I was very excited to see how Garnier Fructis Volumising Shampoo Bar – Watermelon Hair Food would work on my hair. I have long fine hair that grows really fast but is very thin and as a result can get dull and oily within a day or so. The obvious difference with the product is that it’s a bar, not a liquid shampoo, so there is no plastic waste! Its also vegan, with no preservatives or silicone and is dermatologically tested. Using this bar is super simple, you just need to wet your hair and the shampoo bar. Then rub the bar from roots to ends on your hair, letting it foam as you do, then massage your hair and rinse – fast! It has a 2in1 cleanse + care, which is an added advantage. It has a really yummy, fresh fragrance. From the minute you pick up the bar the watermelon scent is noticeable and smells fantastic in the shower. The scent faintly lingered on my hair following my shower. Delicious! A single bar can last the equivalent of up to two 250ml shampoo bottles – so not only will this bar reduce waste, but also reduce your spending on bottles of shampoo! It comes attractively packaged in a wee pink and green box, 60g total when packed, and I should mention is approved by Cruelty Free International. Using two to three times a week, this bar left my hair feeling cleansed and nourished, as well as soft and easy to brush. If you are looking for a green way to achieve cleansed and volumised hair without weighing it down, I would highly recommend you give this a go!
Tips: Keep the bar dry! I used mine with a block dock – it conveniently kept mine high and dry in the shower for ease of use.
Was looking forward to trying it. Packaging was great the bar was in a small compact cardboard box so recycling is a doddle! The bar smelt ok but not as nice as the liquid shampoo version which I still use from a previous trial I was selected for. The bar lathered up exceptionally well on the first application, but I always wash my hair twice and therefore rinsed the product after first application and reapplied. I wash my hair every other day. I was surprised that it cleaned my hair. I have seen shampoo bars before but was never keen to use a " bar of soap" in my hair but this did surprise me. I noticed after about the 3rd time of using it, part way through the day, my hair started to look greasy especially my fringe so that put me off a bit. My head also seemed to itch quite a bit too. I used this alongside the Hair Food conditioner I was given to trial. The advantage this has over a liquid shampoo is that it would be great to travel with as it wouldn't leak. Also looks like it would last a while as it lathered quickly with very little application.
I would use this bar as a backup, but not as a regular shampoo as I still prefer a liquid shampoo.
I would not buy this product. If I recommended it to a friend I would point out the above pros and cons.
I was glad to go back to using my liquid shampoo (another brand).
Tips: Lathers up quickly so a little goes a long way
This bar was easy to use and the first time I tried it, I just wet it and then ran it down my hair three times. It lathered up really quickly and smelt lovely. I found that you could also just rub it in your hands and then add that to your hair to get a lovely, rich lather. I did find that it left my hair a little 'stripped' and on one occasion, a bit knotty. It did, however, smell lovely and clean my hair. Also, a great eco-friendly product.
Well I was pleasantly surprised by this shampoo bar. I have fine hair and this product definitely lifted my hair making it feel bouncy and more full. I wasn't sold on the scent, it definitely wouldn't be my first choice. I love the fact it comes in a little box which is great for landfill. I did find it a little strange using the bar the first few times but it does lather up nicely and my hair does feel nice and clean. I do wash my hair every day and felt it dried my hair out a bit so I would recommend using a hair mask or conditioner as well. All and all a great product that I will be happy to continue to use.
Loved this product, it was exactly as described. I was sceptical about how it would work but it frothed up and I loved the way it did. The smell was absolutely divine and I would recommend it for people to try. My hair definitely felt amazing after I used it.
Tips: Find a plastic container to leave in shower to keep it in
I was very interested to test a shampoo bar. As much as I am sold on the environmental benefits of using a bar, the watermelon scented Garnier Hair Food Shampoo Bar is not appropriate for thick hair. It didn't nourish my hair and left it dry.
The bar is light (60g) and fits well in the hand. It is easy to use. You wet your hair and the bar, rub the bar from the roots et voilà. It nicely foams and smells like watermelon. The bar will last long, up to the equivalent of 1 bottle of 500ml.
As of June 2022 the price of the shampoo bar at a NZ supermarkets is $18. A bottle of shampoo from Garnier is $12 for 850ml. Due to the results experienced with this specific product, it is not worth the money for me. However, I would be keen to try a bar more relevant to my hair type to reassess my opinion.
The packaging is appealing and recyclable. The formula of the bar is vegan and 98% biodegradable with no preservatives, artificial colourants, silicone or plastic waste.
I have already talked about it to friends. I think the bar is a great way to protect the environment.
Tips: Wet your hair and the bar well before use.
