These were the way to fake colour before at home tanners got so easy, and so good!
The lighter one was very very subtle, almost at a 'why bother' level for me personally. The colour tended a little orange, and I found the scent had an unpleasant chemical undertone.
Nice lotion, may give you a light light tinge of a colour, but not really worth it, for me. It's just as cost effective and simple to buy a proper tanner, these days.
This was my favourite tanning moisturiser to top up my tan for summer time, I loved how easy it is to use and how slow the actual colour actually developed. When I needed a healthy tan I just used this moisturiser all over my body for 3-4 consecutive nights and I always got the colour I wanted. It fades slowly and evenly, so if I wanted to keep the slight tan I just kept using this every second or third night. I liked how I could ask my boyfriend to help with my back as I can’t always reach the middle parts and he just had to wash his hands with soap and there were no orange streaks left. Same with my hands, I used to just wash a couple of dishes afterwards, to get everything off and I’ve never had a problem with streaky orange fingers. I don’t use tanning mitts, so that’s never an option, I just like to know and feel where I have already some lotion on. I don’t mind the smell of tanning products, this one still had that strange fake tan smell to it, nowadays the scents are much lighter, better, but I always liked the slight burnt(?), weird smells these fake tan products had, I don’t know, I’m just weird.
Easy to apply like a body lotion, I love the nice natural glowy look it gives my legs and I usually go for this brand in the summer. The only thing I don't like about it is that it goes an odd colour on my feet so it is quite noticeably a fake tan.
I have used quite a few gradual tan solutions and this one isn’t too bad. It’s on par with the dove one and Bondi sands one I have also used. My biggest problem is that they are hard to find sometimes.
This one is a decent size for summer I would say as some bigger bottles I’ve had have gone funky or off colour/aged. So this is a good size to get you through.
The price is also good pretty cheap and cheerful.
It has a nice perfume to it and I haven’t smelt that fake tan smell some have. It’s probably one of the more fluid solutions I’ve used - the dove one is thicker. But it spreads easily.
It’s an ok bottle I prefer the pump of another one I’ve used as that makes it easy to apply but given this is half the price I can’t complain too much.
It doesn’t streak which is great. It’s easy to apply and builds up over a few days before i feel the need to get my usually white pins out. So if I have an event I build this up. Gradually fades also so no need to scrub or remove. I haven’t noticed it rubbing off onto clothing but I would be careful just incase as it tans your legs it could well tan other things.
Feels like it moisturises at the same time which is double handy.
There are so many gradual tan moisturisers available now - which is great! I would spend hours in the sun scorching my poor skin to achieve a tan, but now I can pick and choose which products might give me the glow without the guilt.
Packaging: simple and easy to use. Not especially pretty to look at (unlike the lush matte black packaging of Luna Bronze)
Price: super cheap and easily accessible at the supermarket
Smell: the standard fake tan smell we all know. They have attempted to add in a fruity fragrance, but it definitely doesn’t cover the lingering smell of X-ray developer fluid (where the inspiration for fake tan came from!)
Feel: I got instant moisture from this lotion, but it only lasted about 2 hours. It is very lightweight and runny. But worst of all, it STINGS when applied after shaving. And not just immediately after shaving; up to 48 hours later! For this reason I will never repurchase.
Tan: I do appreciate the gradual tan formula in this lotion. It builds up in about 3 days on my fair skin. It can give a good base colour for a low price before I follow up with more expensive products that feature colour-correcting pigments to neutralise some of the orange tones.
The lotion is great! It has a nice scent that isn't too overpowering and glides onto the skin nice and smoothly. It is longlasting to give the overall look/glow of a summer tan. I used to use this product weekly to keep up the colour. I would highly recommend.
Tips: Use moisturiser on the days you aren't tanning to reignite the glow.
As someone who has never used fake tan because I'm super lazy - this product really appealled!
I substituted this for the moisturisor that I used on my legs after shaving to build up a gradual tan. It's an easy swap and works well. It has a unique smell but not unpleasant.
What I did find annoying was when I lived in a flatting shared bathroom situation, having to apply, wash your hands and then also not getting dressed straight away to avoid staining, means you end up having to hog the bathroom or use some kind of wipes in your room. Not a problem if you live in your own place though.
Tips: Wash your hands afterwards and don't put on clothing or hope into bed straight away as the product can stain. Cleansing wipes are useful if you don't have an en suite and don't want to hog the bathroom.
I love using this lotion to extend my fake tan. It doesn’t have a funky smell and it is very moisturising, it’s seriously the most moisturising one I have used. It has a fruity scent and it absorbs quickly into your skin. I much prefer this to the Dove one, it doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy like I find the Dove one does. For only around $9 it’s definitely a steal!
Tips: Be sure to wash your hands after you use it to avoid the patchy brown fingers and fingernails, you’ll regret it if you don’t.
I used to have this and a range of other Garnier gradual tanning products as my go to before I started using instant tanning products.
This was always my favorite as it smelt really good and did overnight really give my tan a boost. As a moisturizer it also left my skin feeling hydrated which is something I've noticed has decreased with using instant tan products.
As a light product I didn't find the tan it gave was that deep and it would seem to reach a certain color and not get any darker, so if you want a dark tan I'd say use the dark lotion, but for the fair skinned wanting a natural looking tan, this product is perfect and I'm about to go back and try using it again to help keep a little tan over winter (without the effort involved with instant tanning).
