I bought this product due to having oily, fine hair and this seemed like the best ethique product to match that at the time. However I found it to work almost too well. My hair became very dry and strawlike, and given that I had seen warnings that this might occur so I discontinued use. I had more success with other ethique product's.

Ethique St Clements Shampoo
If you struggle with oily hair then Saint Clements is for you. There are no harsh 'stripping' surfactants (foaming agents) which just create more oil, nor is there any silicone. Lime and Orange oils to balance oil production, clean the scalp and freshen your hair up. Leaves your hair perfect without the need for a conditioner as there are humectants in there which draw moisture to your hair, without the oil.

• Removes oil without stripping or drying hair
• Equivalent to 3 bottles of liquid shampoo

Tips: Buy ethique sampler boxes so you can try multiple options before investing in full sized products.
I've been using Ethique St Clement's shampoo for years. It's the only shampoo that actually helps cleanse oily hair without completely stripping it, leaving it squeaky.
My hair is very oily - I used to have to wash it every night - but since using this shampoo bar, I slowly managed to stretch it to every second night, and now only wash every third night, using dry shampoo on day three.
If hair is really greasy, wash twice, and really work the lather into the hair, massaging the scalp well.
Tips: Buy an Ethique shampoo storage container and keep it on the bathroom windowsill between uses for the bar to dry out completely.
This may be a good option if you need a deep clean or have very oily hair. For my (Pakeha, on the finer side, slightly oily) hair it is too much, and it feels drying. It isn't as drying as say, a supermarket shampoo with SLS but was still a bit stripping for me. The scent is nice, however.
This really helped with greasy roots! The smell is fabulous as well. My only issue was that for some reason the actual shampoo bar didn't really dry out well? It was always soft, even though I would have it out in a cool area to dry. So it ended up disintegrating and I had to stop using it as it would leave big chunks in my hair, none of the other bars did this.
St Clements is an absolute super star, it leaves my super fine, straight hair feeling amazingly soft and light without creating frizz or fly-aways. It also smells spectacular without leaving an overpowering or cloying scent in my hair.
I used to have to wash my hair everyday, and St Clements is the only product I've found that lets me skip a day (or even two, with a light dry shampoo touch up).
It's surprisingly sudsy for a bar shampoo and incredibly easy to use. I can't do without it.
Tips: Make sure you store it out of running water to prolong its life - I use a suction cup soap holder stuck to the very top of the shower wall.
I just love Ethique products. St Clements hit my shower after a long run with Damage Control (also by Ethique). Pregnancy changed my hair type and I went from sensitive dandruff hair to full blown grease-pot. St Clements cut through the oil and made my hair a mane of beauty again.
It is super gently, yet ultra effective. There's no need for conditioner either (although a swipe of Wonderbar through the ends is a lovely touch).
As well as being a wonderful bar for oily haired beauties, Ethique is a wonderful company. Based in Christchurch, this NZ based company is super eco-friendly - no animal testing, no nasty products, compostable packaging and no plastic. Love it!
Tips: Give it a go, you won't regret it.
I got given this as part of a bag of conference swag, full-disclosure. Before this I was a complete newbie to bar products, I don't even use bar hand soap. I have oily roots and dry ends. As I only wash my hair every 2 days, I have to use dry shampoo in between. This product was a delight to use, with a slight scent and nice texture. I was worried that this would leave an oily film or only leave my hair nice for a few hours. After using this I did not have to use dry shampoo the next day. This has lead me to buy other bar shampoos, as I'm trying to reduce the amount of plastic I use. I've looked into the company and they seem very socially responsible and are made in NZ.
Tips: Pop it in a tin or other container to prevent it melting in the shower.
I first discovered this bar when I did my first order from Ethique. I ordered the Heali Kiwi for my flakey, itchy scalp and I found an amazingly scented little shampoo bar freebie shampoo bar sample in my parcel. This bar smelt like orange and lemon cake. I was soooo impressed with the scent that I actually neglected my fullsized Heali Kiwi bar that I ordered and just used this. I really thought I would get only one or two washes out of this tiny little bar but I got like three weeks use out of this bar. And I used a lot more shampoo than normal because I used this to wash weekly hot coconut oil treatment out of my hair. In fact it wasn't until three weeks later I remembered that had a fullsized bar of Heali Kiwi. As soon as I ran out I ordered a fullsized St Clements and it's been the bar I wash my hair at least once a week with. Here's why I'm sold on this bar - I have really long hair and my scalp gets oily while my ends are still dry also my hair takes a long time to dry naturally so washing my hair every day or every other day is a nuisance. I've used other shampoo brands and shampoos designed specifically for oily hair but I find that my scalp is greasy and hair needs washing by the third day. With St. Clements I can go four to five days before I really need to wash my hair. My scalp is a bit oily on the fourth day and by the fifth day it needs a wash. So this is my to-go bar every week, especially after I put coconut oil in my hair. In fact, when I wash the coconut oil out of my hair I reach for this bar because I know I can use as much shampoo as I want and I'm going to barely use up the bar. That's right Ethique shampoo bars last for ages and the conditioner bars last for even longer. I only need to replace this bar maybe every 7-8 months. So I'm definitely getting value for money. This bar has cocoa butter, coconut oil, lime, rosemary and sweet orange essential oils plus juniper extract, so great ingredients. This isn't a natural shampoo though but it is cruelty free and free of skin irritants. I love that it is NZ brand as well. I would give this bar more than five smooches if could. If I had to name one con it would be that the fullsized bar didn't smell as amazing like that orange, lemon cake scented sample I got. Instead the fullsized smelt like citrus and lemon with maybe a hint of orange, but I still like the scent. I have repurchased this bar about three or four times and as long as I can get ahold of a bar I will own one.
Tips: There are two ways to use this you can swipe the bar over wet hair and then lather your hair or you can suds it up in your hands and transfer that to your scalp. I'd recommend the second one if you have just a sample of this shampoo as that way you don't have to worry about the bar slipping out of your hands or if you have a lot of hair getting lost in your hair. This product is very concentrated so a little goes a long way and the bar will last you ages. If you are not sure if this product is for you You can request a free sample of this in any online Ethique order.
I was lucky enough to recieve this in a gift pack from a fellow br member. Before Ethique became Sorbet my pack was packaged differently. I do like the new packaging from Sorbet. Shampoo bars have become a huge hit in the last few years. I wasn't aware of these types of products before I came across Beauty review. Since being a member here I've learned so much about beauty products.
My bars came in a small box that unfolds nicely. Each bar was incased in plastic packets. Each packet was labelled with the name of each product. But there wasn't any instructions about how to use each bar. I went to the website to help me understand using them. This may have changed with the new packaging. My bar is shaped like a little heart. The texture of it is smooth with texture running through it. The scent that I can smell is citrus fruits with a subtle note of coconut in the background.
When I first washed my hair it lathered up easily on my thick hair. It didn't fall apart either. It stayed together nicely. My hair was cleaned nicely with this bar.I did miss using a conditioner in conjuction with this. I noticed my hair felt slightly soft but not significantly soft. I could comb through it . Normally my hair clumps into a knotty mess.
After using this for about four times roughly I did notice my hair had a slight shine to it. I think their sample boxes are great for trying out bars before commiting to full sizes. I would love to see a conditioning bar thats paired with these bars . Overall I believe their affordably priced and I would love to try more products from Ethique.
Literally love this product! It felt so nice to use natural products on my hair and I felt so clean. I have straight hair so that might be one of the factors to why it works but I refuse to get anything else it makes me feel great. As a plus it makes you smell soooo good! Another good thing about is there are no risks to getting bacne since its all natural!
Tips: Use it omg its my saviour! You only need to swipe it through your hair a few times especially if its straighter!
