Starting from the box it was nice and simple and same with the bottle. I didn't like the nozzle and couldn't work out how to use it so just took it off. The oil itself smelt nice doesn't have a strong smell and isn't noticeable once in your hair. The oil is a good texture not to thick like some I have used and not too runny which makes it easy to apply. I suggest applying it from ends to mid-length to avoid the oily scalp. When I was putting it in from the scalp I would do it at night time and wash it out in the morning as it did leave my hair looking rather oily. I started with a small amount until I knew exactly how much more I could put in my hair without it getting too oily. Once I used it a few times I loved it as it made me hair look healthier and shinier. I haven't noticed it any stronger but definitely looks healthier. It is a massive bottle and will defiantly last a long time. I do find it a bit pricy and think that if it came in smaller bottles for a smaller price I would be more incline to purchase it.

Tips: As above start off with a small amount to avoid making hair oily. You can always add more
I have tried many hair oils and hair care products, I have spent the last few years lighting my hair so I have also spent a lot of time trying to ensure it stays nice and healthy.
I really wanted to love this product. It says all the right things and it is New Zealand made. However it just did not agree with my hair 100%. My hair is very thin and I found this product to heady.
While it didn't leave residue in my hair (which is awesome), I found it didn't soak into the hair nicely, rather it clumped parts of my hair together. This was worse when using this product when my hair was wet.
When it comes to hydrating the hair this product works well. My hair was easier to style and felt silky smooth and moisturised.
The packaging kind of looks like a medicine bottle which is fitting, it is like medicine for your hair :p I LOVE that it has a little top that controls the oil flow out of the bottle. There is nothing worse than spilling too much product all over the place!
This product may be better suited to someone with thicker hair.
Tips: Rub this product between your hands and lightly work it through dry hair.
I was given this product by BR to trial (thank you!). With regular use and more time I feel it can help to improve the condition of my hair. To start I have long wavy hair, prone to dandruff, balayage with Keratin treatment and a good hair care regime in place.
I think for $80 the packaging needs some work. It has an inverted dropper which dispenses the product one drop at a time. On first use it took me a few firm shakes to get any product and when I did, I had to check that I didn't get it anywhere else but on my hand! By day 3 I removed it and used an external dropper to get the job done - much faster and less mess.
The oil smells like a mix of Olive oil and Castor oil. It's not overpowering but if it's in my hair I'd really like it to smell pleasant. Using no more than 8 drops I tested this product by applying the oil to dry hair that had been styled, partially dry hair, wet hair and lastly dry hair before styling.
Despite being an oil I was impressed that in all four scenarios it didn't feel greasy or leave any oily residue behind; in fact I felt like it helped me in that area. There were times where I felt like it LOOKED greasy however colleagues / friends told me I needed my eyes checked.
I was worried that having oil in my hair would transfer onto my pillow and break me out because I have sensitive skin but I had no issues. In addition I was also worried that the oil would make my dandruff worse however I found that my dandruff was under control to the point that I had to keep checking the mirror to see if it was even real!
Out of all the applications I preferred to apply the oil to dry hair that had already been styled (i.e. curled). It's a nice 'retouch' to the hair, smoothing it out while conditioning and softening my tips. My problem with this application was that my curled hair seemed to go limp and lose its volume - had I put too much? Surely not.
With the partially dry and wet hair my hair appeared more straw-like. It didn't feel straw-like it just looked rather stringy and evident that it had product in it. I put my hair in a bun in both cases and noticed that the flyaways were not that easy to get rid of so it's important to note that the product smooths your hair but doesn't necessary keep the flyaways down.
The application I hated the most is the one mentioned on the product - applying the oil (on dry hair I assume) and then styling. After applying the oil, I straightened my hair but half way through I gave up. Instead of looking polished and clean it was looking like I had "straightened" my hair in a rush and looking rather stiff not to mention the degree of satin shine (and not the good type). I then tried to curl it and was super annoyed when it fell limp. Needless to say up in a bun it went.
Overall I'm impressed with the properties of this product and I intend to finish using it and update my review accordingly.
Tips: Unfortunately the "directions" doesn't recommend the ideal number of drops to use and neither does their website so I can only assume that I had the right amount of product given my hair type and how much hair I have.
Start with a small number of drops and add more as needed. Rub hands together to warm up product and apply to your scalp. Section your hair off (I split it into 4s) and apply the oil - in total I use 8 drops of oil on my long wavy hair.
I was sent this product by BR to review. For an $80 product I was a bit disapointed in the packaging. I was expecting it to be somewhat luxurious looking but instead it comes in a brown glass bottle, much like a medicine bottle. There is a small dropper in the lid to control how much product you get which is handy although it takes some effort to get a decent amount of product out.
As for the product itself, I use a small amount (maybe 10 drops) and rub through the lengths of my hair while still wet. It has a faint scent although it's unnoticeable on the hair. The oil leaves my hair really soft and there's less frizz when I use this. When I only use a small amount it doesn't leave my hair looking oily or greasy but you do need to be careful how much you use. The first time I tried this I obviously used too much and my hair was super oily looking.
I like this product but haven't seen any results that I can't get from a cheaper alternative, and I think the packaging really lets it down too. I will finish the bottle but probably wouldn't repurchase.
Tips: Use sparingly, a little goes a long way.
So, a little bit of background to start off with...my hair is super curly, frizzy if I dont use product, very dry especially at the turn of the season and unruly at the best of times. I have searched, unsuccessfully, for years for a product that isnt too heavy but that will have give my hair some control. Usually the products I've tried are either so heavy that it makes my hair limp and oily, or at the other end of the scale, only lasts a week because I have to use so much.
Last week my much anticipated package arrived in the mail...eeekkk I was sooo excited! I immediately opened it, and to be honest, I was a little bit disappointed, the bottle wasnt huge, about 10cm in height, (my initial thought was..mmmm this wont take long to use as my hair sucks up product) and there was no smell. In my mind hair product had to smell gorgeous. My disappointment didn't last long.
Ok, now for the Verdict...Caithy Marula Enriched Hair Oil is the answer to all of my hair problems! On opening the unassuming brown bottle I discovered that there was a stopper in the top, like you find on essential oil bottles, so when I tipped it up hardly any came out, literally 3 or 4 drops landed in my hand. I thought...how on Earth is this going to be enough?? Well, it was! This product is amazing, I needed very little to achieve healthy, shiny beautiful looking hair...I was truly surprised. I have now been using Caithy Marula Enriched Hair Oil for almost a week and Im hooked. It doesnt feel oily or heavy in your hair, you wont need to wash your hair more often to counteract the build up of product either, it feels light yet healthy. $80 seems quite a lot to pay for a hair product, but honestly, you need so little of it it will last months and I have finally found the perfect product so I would pay this willingly. I have also decided that smell doesn't matter, it doesn't smell bad, there is just none which is fine. So basically Im beyond happy, I will continue to buy this slightly expensive, aromaless Hair Oil in the unassuming brown bottle because it gives me healthy luscious locks that I feel proud of.
I really wanted to love this product. It contains no nasties and lots of oil goodness. I loved the box with the gold embossed pattern. I was convinced that something with an $80 price tag should surely be the best thing I could put on my hair. Unfortunately my hair didn't agree. I found the oil quite heavy. I imagine for very dry hair it might be miraculous but with my tendency-to-greasiness it was too oily. I used it the same way I used my pharmacy brand (cost $5) - a few drops warmed up in my hands and massaged through my damp hair after a washing. It made my hair feel quite sticky but I persevered. Once my hair was dry it felt reasonably soft and looked okay but didn't seem to have the same shine as when I use my normal oil. Usually I can wash my hair every other day but when using this oil my hair looked much greasier on the second day. Each time I re washed my hair it felt like there was some oil residue even after shampooing. Perhaps this is a good thing as the natural oil is sticking to my hair but I'm one of those people that like to feel like my hair is clean and all product is washed out (natural or not). I wouldn't rush out to buy this myself.
Tips: As much as I am not keen on using this as a regular leave-in oil I think it contains lots of great ingredients and may try to use it more as a weekly mask and leave it in my hair for a few minutes before rinsing out. I think it has the potential to work really well for some hair types.
Having used other hair oils in the past i was both nervous and excited to try this product. With other brands of hair oils i had tried, it seemed that the product just sat on top of the hair creating an oily mess. This product is something different. The first time i used this i followed the instructions and applied to wet hair after showering - i was heading to work so again was worried about the outcome. I had no need to worry. The oil absorbed quickly into my hair and after blow drying my hair was soft without being weighed down at all by the product. My hair felt great and looked shiny and healthy. I blow dry my hair every second day and use heat to style most days. I have noticed less damage than usual and my hair has not felt dry or frizzy since i have started using this product. I also used this product as more of a treatment overnight. I applied a little more than i applied in the day time to really let my hair soak in the oil and reap the benefits. In the morning my hair felt so soft and well nourished.
Tips: Apply to the lower half of your hair avoiding the roots to avoid oily looking hair.
I was so excited to receive this product to review. When I opended it I was so impressed by the packaging I really liked how it had the gold detailing on each side. It also was labeled clearly and even had the meaning of the word Caithy. The product came in a 100ml glass bottle with a screw top lid and a dripper type applicator that you had to shake out the product. I didnt really like that you had to shake it a few times to get a small amount out but on the other hand it was good so the product wouldnt over spill out too much. The smell of this hair oil isnt strong at all it has a very faint smell to it. I applied the hair oil after i washed and towel dried my hair. I used a small amount of it. Straight away it made my hair feel silky smooth and easy to brush. When my hair air dried it didnt go frizzy at all and it kept it very tamed. I found that this hair oil did not make my hair feel greasy like other hair oils I have used. I was very pleased with this product and i will definitely continue to use this product on the daily.
Thanks for the opportunity to review this product. I really do appreciate the effort yous go to. Love it!!
Tips: A small amount goes along way.
I enjoyed using this product, it definitely added shine , to soon to tell if the repair worked but definitely made my hair easier to comb, I have blonde hair and was never left oily after using it . The only thing I didn't like is when I shook it to get it out sometimes it flicked out the side ( this might have just been me !) Overall grwat product
