Would buy these myself

I've previously used Garnier's banana hair food mask which smells amazing, so I was really excited to try these.

First impressions were I was very impressed. The bottles are a good size and shape with a good lid and an "eco" feel - they're nice recycled material. The bottle is 50% recycled plastic which I think is awesome given other brands like Monday heavily market themselves on being made from recycled plastic but their bottles are only 20% recycled materials - so 50% is great.

I also like that both the shampoo and conditioner are colourless, so it's not like colours have been added.

Both shampoo and conditioner smell fantastic, like a fruity yoghurt, and the smell reminds me of a tropical holiday. I've come to expect this of the hair food range.

I'm not one to buy expensive hair care - I always buy from the supermarket based on being natural and having a nice smell - and this range ticks both boxes. I will buy these moving forward and look forward to trying the rest of the range.

In terms of being "repairing", I haven't noticed much difference - but I'm sceptical that hair care even delivers on some of those claims!

Not enough moisture for my dry hair

Love the idea and the concept of this product and the natural ingredients it will be perfect to use on my children’s hair but unfortunately it wasn’t suitable enough for my hair, I have dry damaged hair and I do struggle to find anything with enough moisture. The scent of both of these products is delicious and I guess you can tell they are natural as the first use of the shampoo doesn’t bubble up as much as other shampoos and then your conditioner is watery and runny so I was a bit sceptical. I think the shampoo seemed to do it’s job but the conditioner just wasn’t working for me it left my hair knotted and not silky smooth at all. Maybe it’s more ideal for shorter hair or hair that isn’t as dry and damaged as mine? I might look at another flavor of this range?

Fruit salad smell

This is a great shampoo and conditioner system for dry and damaged hair. And it smells like fruit salad! I used this on my children and myself. For a supermarket brand this left my hair feeling good and soft. I would buy this again for sure. The kids fine thin chlorine damaged hair also responded well and was soft and smelt great. It didn't weigh down any of our fine hair and I would buy it again

Tips: The kids remarked that it could be mistaken for juice but we thought the packaging was pretty cool! Don't forget to towel dry your hair in between the shampoo and condotioner

Bit of a mixed bag

I am a big fan of the Garnier Papaya Multi-Use Hair Food Mask, so was stoked to get on this trial, and see if the new shampoo & conditioner regime would be just as amazing, but unfortunately this didn't live up to my expectations. Throughout the trial period, I used the shampoo & conditioner together for 5 hair washes, with half used without a hair mask or treatment so I could see how the conditioner performs, and half used with the Papaya Multi-Use mask as the products recommends the shampoo & conditioner be used in conjunction with this. The shampoo and conditioner both come in cute easy to squeeze 350ml bottles, with orange lids and the classic Garnier Hair Food labelling, which is a bit cluttered text wise, but aside from that, cute packaging. The shampoo comes in a transparent orange tinted bottle, while the conditioner comes in a white bottle, which makes them easy to tell apart in the shower. Both have an amazing strong papaya scent which smells delicious and lingers on the hair afterwards. Now, the multi-use hair mask in this range is amazing, it calms my hair, deeply repairs it and leaves it feeling amazing, so I expected similar things from this regime but it just isn't anything special. The shampoo is much better than the conditioner, it's easy to wash out of the hair, refreshing, hydrating and shampoos well. It's nothing spectacular but it's nice and does the job. The conditioner though is quite average, it's super runny and messy to work with, and doesn't really condition all that well, or do much for my hair. This was very apparent when I used it without the hair food multi-use mask afterwards, it barely had an effect. My overall rating would be higher if the conditioner matched the shampoo in quality and performance, but it didn't. Overall, I'd recommend trying the shampoo, but give the conditioner a miss, it's not anything better than other supermarket conditioners.Stick to the original hair food multi-use mask as that can be used as a conditioner and pair that with the shampoo, as I think that would provide better results, than using the Hair Food Conditioner.

Surprisingly soft

I am struggling to decide how to rate this Shampoo and Conditioner. My initial impression on first use, I wasn't a fan. I stuck it out and have kept using it over the last 2 weeks and noticed some changes to my hair, but I'm undecided if they have been for better or worse.

Firstly the shampoo: My first thought was that it's quite a thick liquid, and the bottle opening seemed quite large for the consistency of the shampoo, a little squeeze and bloooop out drops a large portion of shampoo, probably a bit more than I needed. It lathered really nicely, lots of luscious thick bubbles which felt really nice. My hair felt pretty squeaky clean using the shampoo. The fragrance was ok, a touch bitter in its papaya scent but not overwhelming. Did the job, would use again.

Now the conditioner: Given the shampoo had quite a thick consistency, I didn't think twice grabbing the conditioner and flipping the bottle with a little downwards thrust to release its trapped liquid into the palm of my hand, only to find the conditioner had a very different, much more liquidy consistency, splat! Now Iv'e got a little too much conditioner action happening but oh well lets get on with the show. I applied conditioner liberally to the mid and ends of my long, damaged (way overdue for a cut) locks, and it felt like it wasn't doing a whole lot at all. This is the point when I'd usually do a quick finger-brush detangle with conditioner in, but it just wasn't happening today. I applied more conditioner even more liberally and managed to get it all smoothed through, but at this rate I'm going to be using 3 bottles of conditioner per one bottle of shampoo. It wasn't til later that it dawned on me that my hair must have lapped up all that conditioner, hence feeling like it wasn't really there doing much, so I knew I had to prevail and give if a good few more days use. The next few days, I definitely still overused the conditioner, both because the runny consistency threw me yet again, and because my hair was so ready to soak it all up it took a bit to get it feeling soft and silky to detangle.

After about a week and a half use, my ends are still looking pretty damaged but I'm incredibly surprised by how super soft my hair is feeling, though with that it seems to also be looking a touch fluffy but that would likely be solved with a hair straightener.

Overall, I think my hair did really like this shampoo and conditioner combo even though it took a few washes to see some results, and I suspect I need to keep using it for a bit longer to really decide if its a good match for me (plus going for my overdue trim would likely help the situation), sometimes I find my hair will only like shampoos/conditioners for a certain amount of time before it feels like my hair goes backwards, hopefully not the case with this one because I do think its great its 98% organic. I would probably use this again, especially if my hair stays this soft using it!

Tips: Give it more than few washes before making your judgement, and careful you don't over pour the conditioner, its runnier than you expect given the thick consistency of the shampoo!

Best set of shampoo and conditioner

The shampoo and conditioner definitely complement each other.

From first impressions, the bottle for the shampoo and conditioner is sleek and actually looks like a drink (so be careful around kids my family thought it was food). The bottles are not pumped style but have a secure cap, I think I do prefer the pump-style bottles as I find them easier to use in the shower to prevent getting any shampoo or conditioner in my eyes.

The bottles are 350mL and both will last a very long time. The conditioner I feel will go a much longer way than the shampoo as you need a lot less of the conditioner to get your hair feeling silky smooth. My hair is medium length so for longer hair you may need more product than I do.

The shampoo leaves the hair feeling nourished while the conditioner leaves it feeling silky smooth. Together the set leaves my hair feeling amazing after straightening it. I used this set and then went out for the night where my hair usually gets very fizzy because of the humidity by the end of the night - I was shocked that my hair remained straight and did not become fizzy or poofy from the humid environment and the next day it still remained the same and was not oily. I straighten my hair every time I wash my hair and this really helped my damaged hair feel nourished. I have noticed my hair has felt a lot lighter after using this set.

I noticed that I didn't have to use any dry shampoo while using this set which is great as that's one less product in my hair.

I love that this brand is biodegradable and vegan which makes this more appealing but the results after using them both definitely speak for themselves.

Repair hair in shower

The products come in an easy to use and store bottle. I have very dry damaged and dull looking hair. The papaya hair repairing shampoo and conditioner work very well together. Products lather and rinse off very easily without weighing the hair down or leaving a greasy feel. I personally didn’t really like the papaya fragrance but found that it didn’t really linger on after drying and using other styling products. After a weeks use I can see that my hair feels a lot smoother and does look less frizzy as well. I didn’t really see much of a difference with shine but would probably need to use it for longer to see any major difference. I like that this is vegan and cutely free a extra tick just for that. Overall a good product and I would like to try the other products in this range as well.

Smells good enough to eat!

This shampoo and conditioner smells absolutely delicious and each comes in a 350ml recyclable bottle. It is vegan for those that prefer that and it doesn't contain silicon which is preferable to me. Garnier also commit to a world without animal testing which gets my vote. I used this shampoo/conditioner combo few times and it left my hair feeling very clean and soft but I feel I need to use it longer to garner as to whether it repaired my chemically treated hair to any extent. I couldn't read the ingredients on the bottle very well as the print is quite small but aside from that, I give it a thumbs up.

Tips: Use the hairmask also to get the real benefit of the product trio.

Great smelling combo

I have had fantastic results from these products. At the moment my hair is a bit sad because I have bleached and colored it so it needs a little more attention than normal. My hair is feeling and looking so much more healthy since I've been using these products. My hair doesn't knot up as much and brushing it is a lot easier which is awesome. My hair feels amazing and has more volume. I have had a lot of people tell me my hair smalls lovely and what I've been using. I'm in love with the fragrance. The company is also using less plastic in their bottles which is very good and makes me more likely to use their products.

Tips: You don't need much, this product goes a long way.

Garnier Fructis Papaya Shampoo and Conditioner

I really like this shampoo and conditioner regime, though I love the shampoo and just like the conditioner. The shampoo is everything I look for in a good shampoo - amazing scent, lathers well, no extra colours etc, and cleans my hair well without drying it out or leaving it "squeaky" clean. The conditioner was ok - great scent and nice and creamy, but the consistency was a little too thin for what I look for in a repairing conditioner and I don't feel like it is as nourishing as I hoped it would be. Together they work absolutely fine as a regieme, though I might swap out the conditioner for the hair mask version next time!
