My expectations were high

Ok. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover...but I was totally expecting big things from the Garnier Hair Food. Was it the super-cute packaging? The 98% natural claim? The fact that it just looks like it'll be a miracle for your hair?

My first impressions of the tub in real life were overwhelmingly positive. It looks like something you'd pick up in your organic food store. Its just got that natural, 'good' vibe about it. Loads of info on the packaging, no 'extra' packaging like a box or plastic disc under the lid. It looks as simple and clean as it could be.

I do have a few issues with the tub format - water does get in there if you're using it in the shower. But it does make it easy to get the product out I suppose.

I first used it as a conditioner after shampooing. It is so thick and creamy I wanted to start off sparingly, just because my thick hair holds on to product like a sponge.

As a conditioner its simply wonderful. It spreads easily, it rinses well and it leaves hair soft and smooth. My hair is ombred and the ends were looking a bit knackered and I am prone to frizz. After drying and styling, my god my hair was so soft. I felt like Monica from Friends. You know that glossy, frizz free hair? It even straightened easier than usual.

As an intensive mask this is brilliant, but don't be tempted to use more than you would when conditioning. I went a bit slap-happy putting it on as a mask and it was more difficult to rinse.

As a 'leave-in' it was a bit of a fail for me. My hair felt icky and tacky.

The softening and smoothing effects last at least 2-3 days. The gorgeous scent lasts at least 24 hours.

The price for the mask is great, and I think it'd make a lovely gift too.

I'll definitely be trying other flavours - Banana is next on my list!!

Not As Scrummy As The Banana

This is the second scent/fragrance I bought from the hair mask range and probably my least favourite as it doesn't smell as scrummy as the others but that does not stop it from being just as amazing when it comes to the actual results of using it.

I bought this when it was on special at Countdown for $6.99 and I really should have gone back and stocked up because it is that good.

It has a very thick and creamy consistency, almost silky I guess you could say, so easy to apply and the tub is massive that even if you paid the full price, it is so well worth it because it will last you ages.

There are 3 ways to use it which I think is fantastic:

1) As a straight conditioner after shampooing 2) Hair Mask while in the shower and then massage and wash out and 3) A leave in treatment without washing out - you could put on before bed and put a cap on and sleep with it if you wanted to.

I have done all 3 and they all work really well leaving hair feeling and looking soft, silky, shiny and really healthy. The only thing I'm not fussed about with this one is that the scent is not that strong. It would suit someone that might have a slight sensitivity to fragrance.

Highly recommend using this hair mask as it really does what it says it is supposed to do.

Tips: Because I'm not a huge fan of the scent, this is the one I have put aside to use as a shaving cream as it feels soooo good.

Hair food

I brought this product while on special I have thick dry hair I thought this would help put moisture back into it . The product is very thick and you don’t really need to use much I left it in my hair after shampooing it for about 10 minutes once washed out my hair felt nice and healthy and full of moisture, it don’t really last long feeling this way as I thought it would I guess it works differently with all hair types

Hair food

After I used up my last hair mask, and after seeing all the positive reviews on BR, I decided to give this a try. I like nut-flavoured things, so I thought this one would be good to try for my first experience of Garnier’s hair food.

The Garnier hair food claims to be 98% of natural origin and to not contain any: parabens, silicones, or artificial colourants. It is labelled as an “intense conditioner for dry & unruly hair.” The label also says it can be used as a conditioner, a mask, or as a leave-in treatment. It is meant to nourish hair without weighing it down. The hair food comes in a big 390ml tub. The Macadamia one has an orange label on a cream-coloured plastic tub with a dark brown lid. The lid is easy to unscrew. The product itself is a thick, nutty-coloured cream. It has a very pleasant scent, which is not too strong. It is easy to apply: all you have to do is dip your hands into it, scoop out some product, and massage it into your hair. It rinses out well too.

I have very fine, dry hair. My hair is also damaged because I lighten it. Something that nourishes my hair without weighing it down is ideal. Because I want maximum moisture without added weight, so far I have only used this as a hair mask, but it has been working very well. Not only does it smell delicious, but it has been leaving my hair feeling intensely hydrated, and softer and smoother looking. You do not need to apply much product either, and with such a large tub, it is great value for money. I am really enjoying using this hair food. I hope to try the other flavours once this one is finished.

Hair love

I fell in love with the sound of this product reading through all the reviews. With all the different flavours I ended up buying 3 different ones to try them out.

I have long hair with lightened ends so the length is quite dry. I’ve struggled to find a nourishing conditioner that treats my ends without making it dull and lank.

I love the versatility of this product - a conditioner, a mask and a leave-in treatment.

The Macadamia one is by far my favourite. While the scent isn’t amazing, the love is shows my hair is! I use this weekly as a mask and then a small amount on the very ends as a leave-in treatment. My hair ends up soft and shiny and bouncy. I only wish the scent was something a little more - maybe cocoa butter scent would enhance it

Tips: Try the 3 different ways to find the best combo for you - and if this one doesn’t work, try the others in the range

Love this so much

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter. I saw people recommend it for curly hair. She has long super dry, super tangly loose ringlets. It smells amazing, is made from natural ingredients and the comes in a big pot so is great value for money.

Great value for money

I bought this on a bit of a whim - normally don't purchase garnier products. Turned out to work wonders! My hair was so moisturised and smelt great afterwards. Plus it's so so cheap!

Tips: Put this on insead of normal conditioner - use maybe once a week.

Soft, nourished hair!

I have tried the whole hair food range now. I picked this up on special at Countdown for $6.99. Definitely keep an eye out for a sale as it is great value.

It comes in a big tub with a screw on lid. It looks like a yoghurt or ice cream pottle. The consistency is beautiful and thick. Fragrance wise it smells lovely but isn't as strong as the rest of the range and this would probably be my least favourite scent.

I love that you can use it 3 different ways. I like to use it as a leave on mask specifically. I  smother all over my hair then wrap it in glad wrap then a towel and let it sit for as long as possible. I find it leaves my hair deeply nourished and super smooth. It leaves a brilliant shine and doesn't weigh my hair down at all.

This is a lovely product. Try out the range and pick your favourite. Great value for money and does what it says.

I use these mask once or twice a week. I love how generous the pot ia. For the price its a great bargain.

I use it as a leave in and it works wonders for my hair. It makes it shiny soft and and nourished. I love the fruity smell and its a very easy application.

nuts for you!

i love these hair masks, i have all 4 now. they smell amazing, they work better than expected and they leave my hair looking ah-may-zing.

like it's fruity counterparts, this is a generous sized tub of hair mask. they couldve made them half the size but other than the massive tubs taking up room in my cupboard, i'm glad they didn't.

macadamia isn't my favorite of the bunch, for two reasons - the smell is a bit bleh for my tastes, but its definitely nutty! i almost want to say it smells a bit chocolatey and maybe that's why i don't like it as much. the second reason i don't like it is for the "smoothing" it claims to do - i found it didn't do anything different to the other 3 conditioners, they all smoothed and tamed my hair the same way, there was nothing special or stand out about this one.

i've used this all three ways but my favorite is as a hair mask with a hot towel on my head for 5 minutes - oh the blisssss! i feel so pampered when i do this! i also like to mix all four smells together so i can have a fruity party on my head, and i love it.

one thing i do love about this hair mask though (all of them really) is that they dont make my hair dye run, or fade, or anything like that. it just sits there doing it's job and rinses out easily. it's a lovely mask, one i probably won't repurchase, but i do recommend it.
