Garnier Fructis Hair Food Watermelon Shampoo and Conditioner

I was lucky to be picked for this trial and was due for a new shampoo and conditioner. My past experience with volumising shampoos and conditioner has been that they tend to dry my fine hair out. Which makes my hair feel dry and strawlike.This one however promised to give my hair volume, movement and bounce. I was hoping that shampoo technologists (is that a thing?), had created formulas that did all this stuff AND nourished fine hair. I guess not. This duo smells great and cleanses and detangles, but my hair was stiffer (not bouncier or movey-er). I love the pink packaging, recylable and recycled. Win-win, it's nice to see a company doing this. The shampoo and conditioner were of standard consistency with the conditioner being white and the shampoo being clear. I did like the fact that I didn't need to wash my hair every day, but that was about it. I wouldn't purchase. Now, it those hair technologists can just get on with making the volumising shampoo and conditioner of my dreams (see above), that would be dandy.

I have used this duo for at least 5 days now.

I have fine, thin, flat, smooth silky hair naturally.

Packaging - very colourful, eye catching and appealing, great that it is recyclable too.It is great that this product is vegan and has all natural ingredients. Love the smell too!

Volumising - Definitely, my hair had a bit of bounce and looked volumised after airdrying it. The bounce looked natural and it looked really good ( I have lived with flat hair, so I really appreciated the volume)

Detangles? No. My hair felt very cleansed, did not feel dry, but when I touch my hair, it did not feel smooth, detangled or silky. My comb did not easily glide.

I would not purchase this duo just because to completely work for my hair, I will need to use the mask also and I just don’t have time to use all 3 products as part of my hair care routine.

I love the packaging and the products smell incredible. I really enjoyed using the products. I didn’t notice a massive overall difference in the volume of my hair but the products worked really well together and left my hair feeling nice and clean.

I'm just not sure if I'm sold on all the details it says it does, when used alone I didn't get that super soft luscious feeling I was hoping for, but when paired with the leave in mask I did. I really loved the smell, the look of the packaging and also the formula was really lovely, but I don't feel like this did too much for me and my hair.

Let's start with the pro's of this product: - The fragrance: Oh. My. Gosh. Think summer fruit cocktails at a bbq with friends. This fragrance is DIVINE, and smells almost good enough to eat/drink (please refrain from doing this, but it is THAT good!). It's 96% Vegan and no 'nasties' which is always a good thing, especially when it comes to my precious mane. The promise of more volume came through, although there was a catch, see the not so great stuff paragraph below. You have to always give a product props when it delivers on its marketing promises. Value for money: I loved how little I needed of these products to get good coverage over all my hair. A little really does go a long way and these bottles would actually last weeks. Now for the not so great stuff: although these products delivered on its 'more volume' promise, unfortunately it came at the expense of softness and shine. By the end of the trial period my hair was noticeably 'rougher' and a lot less shiny than normal. I was also struggling to get a wide tooth comb through my hair when it was wet after washing and conditioning with these products. Unfortunately the divine smell and other pros of this product don't outweigh the not so great stuff, which was so disappointing as I would have gladly switched my normal haircare regime for these products - which is the highest praise I can give any product.

I tried these as part of a trial team and used them together, and also the conditioner paired with another shampoo to see how it would change the results.

In terms of packaging, I do appreciate the slim profile as it fits really well in my shower caddy. The lids were quite difficult to open which isn't ideal while a tad soggy in the shower but I can see how this can be good if child-proofing!

The shampoo is a gel-like formula, and much thicker than a typical shampoo. This does make it a little more difficult to squeeze out of the bottle as it can suction itself back in when you stop squeezing. It has a good lather and does a good job at cleansing.

The conditioner is a typical cream-like formula, but lighter than other brands which helps to prevent the hair being weighed down. It worked well at conditioning my hair and also lends itself well to in-shower detangling.

Both products have a very light fragrance. It is not at all overbearing so if you are sensitive to fragrance then you may still be ok with this.

I do feel that my hair was not weighed down by these like it can with other products, however it also did not provide me any added boost to my volume. If you have fine hair with medium to high density then this could be a perfect option for you, if you have lower density hair then it might not give the level of volume you're looking for.

Overall, I will continue using these but I'm not sure that I would repurchase the watermelon ones. I would definitely consider some of the others in the same range though.

I trialed this product for a week, and my 10 year old daughter also used it. We both have fine hair, but while hers is healthy and wavy, mine is coloured, greying and probably not as healthy. Overall, these products worked for her but not for me.

My hair was left detangled, and clean, but lacking in volume or shine. I had more frizz with the baby hairs on top of my head, which was not ideal as the rest of my hair stayed flat. My daughters hair was soft, detangled and had more volume than usual (not that she cares about that as a 10 year old!! But might help someone else knowing how it worked).

I liked that the bottles are very easy to tell apart - the shampoo is pink and the conditioner is white, so no squinting at tiny print in the shower to figure out which is which. I love the smell, and how easy it is to rinse both products out.

I am not sure of the price, but if it is reasonable I would repurchase these both again for the kids. I would be keen to try the other 'flavours' out to see if one suits my hair, as the products themselves were nice to use, just didn't suit my hair.

I recently tried out the shampoo along with the conditioner. Over all they were great. They smelt good and did what they said they would. I found my hair to have more volume afterwards and it felt so fresh. I would recommend.

The shampoo and conditioner came in a bottle which reminded me somehow of those yogurt drink bottles, especially the conditioner bottle due to its white bottle. It’s going to take me a while to get use to it’s rather unique packaging. I loved how it had those warning labels for young kids who might somehow mistaken them for food or drinks.

Anyways, i fell in love with its green click clack lid. It was sturdy, and strong, but easy to use. It’s fun to open and clicks back firmly into place so easily without leaving a mess.

The pair is very lightly scented so the hair comes out smelling natural without a strong scent.

The shampoo cleanses my hair well and conditioner smoothes and softens my hair. The shampoo and conditioner doesn’t weigh down my hair, but leaves my hair light, soft and smooth after drying to keep me and my hair happy.

Overall, i think it could do better with the volumising, but as a hair set i very much enjoyed it, and looking forward to trying others in this Garnier series. Next on my list would probably be the Aloe.

Love the range. Both products go so well together. From the smooth texture of the shampoo to the milky texture of the conditioner. I found my hair nice and clean and nice and bouncy after using both products. It made my hair smell great and looked really clean.
