I have medium length, fine hair and tend to wash it 4-5 times a week due to exercise . I was excited to trial Garnier’s new Hair Food Watermelon range, specially made for fine hair and was especially keen to see if it would deliver on the hydration and bounce!
Firstly - the smell is insanely good . I love that it is sweet and fresh without being cloying and over powering. The scent lingers in the hair and meant I didn’t need to add perfume - bonus !
The packaging is problematic for me . It is designed to look like juice or smoothie bottles and I realise that can be perceived as clever and in line with the branding - BUT as the mother of small children , one of who asked for a sip (!!!!) this is a big no no in my books. Keep out of reach of small, curious hands!
The duo compliment each other beautifully. I found the shampoo cleansed my hair without stripping it and the conditioner was the perfect weight to hydrate my hair without weighing it down. Overall my hair feels softer and has a nice , natural volume to it. I have noticed my hair is significantly less frizzy and is lovely and shiny.
I would happily purchase these products again, making sure to keep them on the high shelf in the shower !
I tried these as part of a trial team and used them together, and also the conditioner paired with another shampoo to see how it would change the results.
In terms of packaging, I do appreciate the slim profile as it fits really well in my shower caddy. The lids were quite difficult to open which isn't ideal while a tad soggy in the shower but I can see how this can be good if child-proofing!
The shampoo is a gel-like formula, and much thicker than a typical shampoo. This does make it a little more difficult to squeeze out of the bottle as it can suction itself back in when you stop squeezing. It has a good lather and does a good job at cleansing.
The conditioner is a typical cream-like formula, but lighter than other brands which helps to prevent the hair being weighed down. It worked well at conditioning my hair and also lends itself well to in-shower detangling.
Both products have a very light fragrance. It is not at all overbearing so if you are sensitive to fragrance then you may still be ok with this.
I do feel that my hair was not weighed down by these like it can with other products, however it also did not provide me any added boost to my volume. If you have fine hair with medium to high density then this could be a perfect option for you, if you have lower density hair then it might not give the level of volume you're looking for.
Overall, I will continue using these but I'm not sure that I would repurchase the watermelon ones. I would definitely consider some of the others in the same range though.
Tips: Use the conditioner as a gentle and easy detangler in the shower with a wide-toothed comb. This will help protect against breakage and frizz while also providing a great conditioning treatment.
