I always had my hair coloured at the hairdressers but decided to cut costs by colouring my own hair and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to do and the results are just as good as going to the hairdressers. I also found that when I had my hair coloured at the hairdressers i was allergic to the colour they used so i had to take antihistamines but using this product for the first I have no reaction at all. Very impressed with the Loreal product and ease of use.

I have dyed my hair for over 20 years so it's safe to say I'm an expert at it lol. I've tried probably every single dye on the market. I picked this one up from the Chemist Warehouse a few months ago, it was on special for around $18.
I have shoulder length hair and 1 box was more than enough for me. I got the shade Mahogany Brown. I never use the gloves that come with dyes, they are always giant and ridiculous. I recommend buying a box of latex gloves so you always have some on hand.
It's pretty standard, mix together and apply. I found it easy to cover all my hair and it didn't drip at all. I let it sit for 45 minutes then washed out. I love the conditioner that comes with it, smells devine and isn't in one of those silly, fiddly sachets!
My hair felt really nice upon drying. It was super soft and shiny, didn't feel damaged at all. All my greys were covered and it looked even. As for the colour, it was OK but I wouldn't select that shade again as it was not as dark as I was wanting. Overall though it's a lovely dye which I will buy again.
This is one of the very few home hair colours I've used that actually covers my greys( around 30 %) I find it super hydrating and it leaves my hair soft and shiny, the aftercare conditioner is devine also. The only reason it only gave it 4 stars is that the colour i usually use does eventually fade and leave a slightly brassy tone which im not a fan of.
Since Covid I have become an expert colourist along with many others.
When it comes to a lasting permanent colour, this would be one of my top picks.
Like most hair colour kits it comes with the colour creme and developer, a small bottle of conditioner and massive gloves.
I personally use my own gloves and collect the conditioners to refill my pump conditioner bottle.
But in terms of the colour it’s a fairly natural looking colour, it doesn’t usually irritate the skin and with regrowth can last about 5 weeks.
It is one of the more expensive options, but on a good special well worth the extra investment.
I have recently gone from natural black her to red copper and you can imagine my hair is totally frizzled from the colour strippers and bless h I have used to be able to go lighter. I have used many box dyes in my time but this one is currently my go to. It has made my hair shiny and healthy again, I have long hair below my mid back and one bottle was enough - I LOVE that they provide a shampoo to wash your hair during the rinse, that is not something a lot of box dyes provide and it sealed the deal for me for this box dye. The colour looks great and doesn’t rinse/fade out as fast as other brads I’ve used. I’m really happy with this
This product does not colour grey or white hair. White and grey hair remains after product has been used. $36.00 NZ a piece. Do not recommend.
Tips: Try another product
I have been using box colors from last 8 years. I have lot of grey hair. I have to cover roots after every two weeks. I used many brands like Garnier , Revlon , Schwarzkopf and Loreal. Once I bought the Loreal excellence cream hair color .. it was totally different experience . This range of Loreal contains ammonia though but the color shade I got is the best I got from other color brands. I found my hair not much dry after each application and better dyed means got fully grey coverage. That was the best part of this color . The conditioner that comes with this hair color makes your hair shiny and soft. I would say that it is one of the best hair color available in the supermarkets. I started using this color since then .It’s pricy though but spending bit more money wouldn’t disappoint you at all.
Tips: The color builds up on the forehead anyway specially when trying to cover grey hairline but goes off easily by makeup remover .!
Have used loreal preference 8.1 for years but can't get now so tried creme excellence. 1st try was ok but weak colour due to step 1 being the serum. This time had a ph balance shampoo as step 2 and advice to use on dry hair. Result is a muddy colour, greasy look, itchy scalp and dull staticky hair where mine is normally shiny. Not happy customer at all.
Tips: Don't buy?
I’ve taken to colouring my own hair to save money and so I can spend more on other beauty products. It really is hit and miss when you use blonde hair colour. My natural hair is a mix of light brown and grey. I have tried this one and the one geared towards grey hair and neither have left me with what I would call “blonde “ hair. I literally coloured my hair last night and followed the instructions to the letter. I also used a toner afterwards to remove any brassy tones. My hair looks reddish and not in a nice strawberry blonde way which sometimes happens when I colour at home. My greyish temples are exactly as they were before, grey. I never expect salon results from a home dye kit but my hair just looks flat and dirty. This is the second time I’ve tried this dye hoping that I just wasn’t doing it properly the first time but no I’m not a fan and definitely won’t be repurchasing. It does however leave my hair feeling very soft and manageable. It may work well for some people but unfortunately I’m not one of them.
This kit comes with all you need to colour your hair at home and safe some money than going to the hairdressers.
