L'Oreal Paris Preference Hair Colour - BOLDS

Really chuffed to have been chosen to be part of this review team! My hair was about 4 different shades/colours - like having 4 different heads of hair haha and I really needed a good colour that would cover all of the different colours (med brown, blonde, white, grey).

I really like the presentation of the box - the colour I chose was Rose Gold, so the model was a pretty pinky colour on a black box which I really liked (and I would reach for it at the supermarket). The contents inside are fairly typical of a hair colour; gel colour, activator bottle, but this one has a fairly large tube of conditioner which Iiked, as I really hate the sachets! So fiddly when trying to get the conditioner out in the shower, especially when your hands are wet!

I found the colour easy to mix and really easy to apply, the gel was a little bit runnier than other colours I've used, so it was a wee bit messy but I wore a colour cape so wasn't fussed. I must say that there is a heap of product once mixed, more than enough to do my entire head then some! My hair is just on collar length so not that long. It was a wee bit stinky, the funny thing is I thought the colour was a semi-permanent but it's permanent! Too late I had already applied the colour to my hair.

I popped on a plastic cap then a thermal booster cap that I own, left the colour on for the 30 minutes then washed it out - it came out really well and I only needed around half of the conditioner tube, so another dose left for the next time which is great.

It left my hair feeling pretty soft, but the colour! I loved it! As my hair is different colours it turned out different in different areas, but still love it! It covered up all of the different colours, plus the grey hair. It has a lovely luminous kind of shine and a real depth of colour.

I am already planning buying the next box for root touch ups! Definitely using this colour again and keeping it!!

My daughter and I shared a box of Rose Gold, Melrose which is a lovely rose gold light pink. It does say on the box it is only recommended for those which bleached or naturally blonde hair and we had one of those each to try the colour on. I have light bleached ashy blonde highlights in my hair and my daughter has naturally golden blonde hair. We both did a dip-dye trial and just did the ends of our hair. I just did the very tips as I was worried it would be quite bright and could be uneven. My daughter did approx 10cm of the ends of her hair. The product itself is very simple to use, open one pot, tip it into the applicator bottle, shake and apply. Wait half an hour, rinse and and done! After our half hour we rinsed our hair thoroughly, dried it and got varied results. My daughter has a lovely, very subtle rose gold pink sheen to the ends of her hair that she is very happy with. It is subtle though, and most noticeable when the light hits her hair. It’s not really a ‘bold’ colour at all. Mine barely took although it was the bleach blonde hair that I expected to suck the colour in. It didn’t show up evenly and is barely noticeable. I would only recommend this colour if you want a very subtle wash of rose gold and if your hair is very blonde.

I became a self-stylist during lockdown 1.0, so I was really looking forward to trying this colour. Firstly, The smell was not overpowering with chemical fumes like you can get with other brands, it was barely any smell at all. The application was simple and easy - no different from any other hair colour product. The conditioner that came in the box felt very luxurious, and my hair was lovely and soft afterwards. My only disappointment was the end result – as per the box examples I was hoping for a more 'vivid' outcome. It certainly gave a tinge of purple (more visible in sunlight), but it didn't look like it did on the box. For reference, my hair was a medium-dark brunette. All-in-all I did like it as it gave more depth to my hair colour, but I just would've liked a bit more 'bold'.

I really liked this hair dye, the instructions were simple and easy to follow, and the colour came out amazing. My hair was left feeling soft and looking shiny and smelling great. I love that the bottle of conditioner included was big enough for more than one use. I've had heaps of compliments on the colour and would definitely use again!

Always knew that this was going to be a bit of a reach for my hair colour, I was on the far end of the colour scale to achieve results. However, there was nothing about this product that I liked. One glove was too small and ripped, the other one fitted fine. The product was easy to mix, but it was so runny, I ended up with product everywhere. It had a very chemical smell, and I was glad to wash it off at the end of 30 minutes. The product had turned purple by this stage, and I was expecting that my hair would at least look like it had been washed with purple shampoo. But nothing, even the gray hair that I do have, and there is a lot was not coloured by this product.

I think I've tried every hair dye out there so I was stoked when I saw this one come up for trial because I love trying new ones. I have been dying my hair for a long time now, it was currently a red/brown colour. I selected the shade Magnetic Plum which was a beautiful purple on the box.

It comes with all the usual bits and bobs....one thing I couldn't believe was that the gloves actually fit my hands for once, they are usually giant and fall off so I was pleasantly suprised and they did indeed stay put the entire time.

After mixing together I applied to dry hair, I really like the gel consistency as it goes on like a dream.  It is runny but doesn't go everywhere. I applied all over and then massaged in as directed....I could see the dye changing to purple so I was excited to see the end results.

I let it sit for 30 minutes then jumped in the shower.  It took me ages to wash it out....I couldn't get the water to run clear.  The dye I got on my forehead came off easily and it didn't stain the shower . The conditioner is lovely, I let it sit for 2 minutes then washed it out....my hair felt soft and tangle free.

Upon drying my hair looked good but not what I was expecting.  Definitely wasn't purple and it didn't cover all my greys. It has a purple/red tinge in the sun and it's nice and shiny but I was expecting it to look more dramatic. It looks pretty much the same as it did before I dyed it.

Interested to see how other people went with it. I wouldn't use it again as there are much better dyes out there that actually change my hair colour.....sorry Loreal a big thumbs down from me.

I was actually really happy to be chosen to review as my hair was dyed 2 Christmas ago which was meant to be blue/black but ended up being red/black. So had the worst red tones picked up depending on the lighting so didn't know how it was going to workout dying the dyed stuff but wow am I surprised, on the parts of natural brown hair (not a lot near the dyed lot) is more the red close to what is on the box. But the dyed bit has managed to attach to the red tones so it's not so black anymore and there's also a lot more dye then I expected, my hair is pretty long (half down my back and thin) which usually would need 2 bottles but could of easily done the whole lot in 1 bottle. Highly recommend.

I’ve gone purple in the past with various temporary colours (colorista, etc) and quite liked them, so was very excited to get to trial this product. I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend. The colour was easy to apply and wash (although I did get my hair-dresser sister-in-law to apply it for ease of cleaning up after) and came out perfectly on my light brunette hair - much more so than previous dyes without needing to bleach and lighten my hair. It has left my hair feeling soft, as promised in the description, so I was very happy that my hair still felt healthy after. The colour itself is a beautiful shade and I will definitely be a repeat customer for this product!
