I used Pink Flamingo purchased at Cosmic for my red-to-pink ombre, with the ends bleached to a light orange prior to adding the pink. The consistency of the dye was not as sticky or tacky and I imagined and went on quite smoothly. I dyed my hair from ear lobes to just below boob-length on my medium-thick hair and, with generous use, still only used about 2/3 of the tub. When washing it out, it didn't stain the shower though a bit did come off on the towel when I dried my hair. Other than that, I didn't have any other staining on clothing or pillow cases following application. (just make sure the water runs clear when washing it out.) The color came out very vibrant and pretty even (not bad for my first time! ;) ) Knowing it is a semi-permanent, I was happily surprised to see that it lasted nearly 4 weeks, though I do wash my hair only a couple times a week. However, the color wasn't nearly as vibrant as it was right after application. It didn't seem to make my hair feel any different. In all, good value for money and would happily use this line again.

Tips: Be generous with the application to ensure even coverage. If it gets on any skin or surfaces during application, remove with baby wipes immediately. May need 2 or 3 tubs if doing long hair. Cover your skin around the hairline, including ears and neck, with Vaseline to prevent staining. Gloves and an old towel are a must!!
I normally use Special Effects hair dye, but as it's hard to get in New Zealand, I decided to try Directions "Plum" dye. Plum is marketed as a pink based purple.
Immediately after dyeing, my hair turned a nice, deep purple. However, two days later, it started to look blue, and became increasingly more blue as it faded (which suggests that it had a blue base, rather than pink). I have to say, I was not impressed since I had just bleached blue dye out of my hair to get purple in! It could have been a faulty batch, but it's hard to know for sure.
The lasting power was ok. It fades a lot quicker than I'm used to (as mentioned above, it changed to blue relatively quickly).
I wouldn't mind trying other colours if I can't get hold of my usual brand, but I probably wouldn't use Plum again.
Tips: -Remember to bleach your hair first if you have brown or black hair, as the dye won't show otherwise!
-It helps to apply vaseline around the hairline to stop colour rubbing onto your skin.
-You can leave this in your hair as long as you like, as it doesn't have any hair damaging chemicals in it.
Being a hair dresser and using a lot of different semi permanent hair colours I would probably recommend this product the most. It's great if you want to add streaks to your hair because it doesn't run into the hair like other semi's I have used. I coloured my whole head with this and found it was best put onto dry hair. And when rinsing it out, it actually stays in your hair. Great product and would highly recommend it if you are wanting one all over colour or different colours all through.
Tips: Try washing your hair a couple of times before directions colour if you can and apply it to dry hair. Or try adding a bit of water to the mix before putting on hair, it will go further and have a more even result then putting it on wet hair.
I cant believe how bright this semi is! I put it over a med brown to blonde ombre and it is so vivid it caught me by surprise! This was easy to apply and i have medium length hair and struggled to use the whole jar. It does stain everything it touches as you would expect. Lasting power appears to be very good as well and there has been no rub off on my bedding or clothes. I used Tulip.
Ive had my fair share of this type of hair dyes, and I can say this ia the best one, ever! They have a good colour range and dont harm your hair also the price is not too bad. You can mix em out with conditioner to get more lighter colours.
this colour was cool, i used the lilac. Only my bad i didnt get enough as the containers are tiny! Their directions are crap though as i followed them and it didnt turn out right at all. So dont leave in for half an hour do at least 45 to 1 hr and buy enough for your hair, mine was long and i needed at least 2! then it would be mint.
I have this in my hair currently, in the colour turquoise. Love it so much, the colour turns out so radiant and flawless. This product was so easy to use and i didn't have to use much either. I've had it in for about 2 weeks and still looks freshly dyed
Tips: Would recommend staying away from chlorine as takes colour out of the hair, also if want to last long apply a little bit of hair dye into your conditioner, this will keep the colour in for longer.
I have used the two above colours on bleached hair in the past - Fire was FANTASTIC and so bright that I even had to dye over it with an Olio red to make it semi-appropriate for work! Definitely a go-er if you're wanting a bright, bright red.
Poppy Red didn't work quite as well for me - the colour was exactly what I was after at first, but very quickly faded to hot pink - which I also loved - but not what I was after. Others I know have had different experiences with Poppy Red though, so hard to say.
The thing I love most about Directions is that it does no damage to your hair - its more like painting it than dying it!
It does wash out very quickly though so avoid washing your hair too often, and swimming.....
One pot does my whole head of hair twice, and my hair is down to my nipples - so definitely worth the $25 a pot.
Next try will be the white toner!
Tips: Don't put on white clothes while your hair is wet!!! And lay a towel or something over surfaces as it does tend to stain.
I have just switched to this dye to test it out in comparison with the Manic Panic I was using previously. I chose to purchase two shades of blue so that I could get a more blended look for the ends of my hair and went with Lagoon and Atlantic Blue. The dye was very easy to apply but the instructions were not clear at all. The colour does seem to last pretty well and the blues are a lovely shade. My only complaint is that when i first put the two blues in, they both turned out the same colour although they are different both in the pots and the shade chart. I have fixed this issue though by waiting a couple of weeks for the initial application to fade and then reapplying the atlantic blue to the bottom layer of my hair. I am very much liking this dye though and would still recommend it.
Tips: Leave the dye in for at least an hour to achieve a vibrant colour.
When I lived in the UK, getting into my rebel teenage years I brought La Riche Pillarbox red with my aunt who put it into my hair. I went from being a natural strawberry blonde to intense red instantly (much to my mother's horror but that was the whole idea) I recall it being like paint and being applied by a brush similar to a paint brush. It stained everything!! so you have to take caution and it lasted a pretty long time too. Have been considering searching out pillarbox red again and going back to my punk period.
Tips: This product stains quite badly so really protect yourself and your surrounds. The second time I applied I put Vaseline around my hair line which worked wonders
