It's very rare that I come across a Lush product which I don't completely adore. Sadly, the American Cream Conditioner is one of them.
My hair is very fine, curly, prone to tight tangles, is not colour treated but is dry at the ends and oily at the scalp. I was recommended American Cream because it is very nourishing for dry hair, and is one of Lush's thicker conditioners so is supposed to be good for untangling hair. Unfortunately, I found the consistency just too thin to properly nourish and detangle my curls. It just felt watery on my hair, and like it actually wasn't doing anything to really nourish and smooth the hair strands. My hair was very difficult to detangle, even after using copious amounts of this, and the next day after using my hair appeared quite dry and frizzy, which never happens using other brands like OGX, or even cheaper brands like Herbal Essences.
However, I think for something with hair that is more easily manageable and straight this could be a good product. The scent is lovely, although not one of my all-time Lush favourites, and is has lots of great ingredients in it to nourish your hair. Just not great for me.
I had to have this, after all it is a best seller by one of the most popular brands. When it comes to hair care I don't use as many products or brands so I figured I could splurge on something to make my long, dark tresses even more beautiful. My hair type is long and fine, the ends are naturally dry because of the length. Lush products usually smell amazing and with one sniff I knew this was coming home with me. My hair was greasy since I only wash it every four or five days, I figured a light conditioner would be fine. I applied a good handful of this to my lengths and it seemed disappear in my hair, it didn't feel like much conditioner but I chocked it down to that my usual Ethique Wonderbar is a very concentrated product so maybe that's why this didn't feel like much. My hair is soft but not as smooth or soft as my usual Ethique conditioner. I left it in my hair for at least five minutes to soak in and rinsed it out. My hair isn't any more shiny or easier to detangle but it is fragranced with that yummy creamy vanilla floral scent. I am not really impressed with this except for how nice my hair smells after using this. I wash my hair at night and my hair smelt amazing while it was wet, as it dried the scent faded but lingered overnight and early the next morning but by afternoon the scent was completely gone. I wish it would've lasted longer because the lovely vanilla floral fragrance was the redeeming quality of this conditioner so that meant that if I wanted the scent to stay I would have to wash my hair everyday which isn't good for it. It does have some really yummy natural ingredients in it like honey water, fresh oranges, fresh strawberries, vanilla absolute, clary oil and lavender essential oils, but interestingly it has sodium lauryl sulfate. I don't know how much conditioners have sls but it's more of a shampoo ingredient and it dries out my hair. So other than the scent I'm not really fond of this conditioner and won't be getting this again. I think it would be nice if Lush would put this vanilla floral scent in a massage bar, body cream or butter and perhaps a hand cream or perfume since it really yummy.
Tips: I don't think this conditioner would be suitable for thicker or drier hair, might be nice for someone with more oily, shorter hair. It does have SLS so if you avoid sulfates in your hair care might be best to give this a miss.
