I purchased this lovely Lush shampoo on my first official Lush visit. I had heard so many good things about this product so had to try it for myself. I got the big massive pot because like most Lush products, I usually end up getting them again so thought I may as well purchase the biggest pot they had lol.
First initial impression I got was when I opened the lid and was hit with a strange smell. I could smell the coconut but its not like the coconut smell I'm used to. It smelt a bit funky and didn't fall in love with it at all.
Before the official use: To be honest with you I didn't even know where to start as it was such a strange product to use. It had lots, in fact the majority of the pot, of coconut pieces in it and was wondering how on earth they would rinse out of my hair.
During the washing process I must admit I was really starting to wonder whether I was using it correctly. It made my hair feel really dry, kind of straw like and it just felt really horrible. I washed it as thoroughly as I could but I noticed when I got out of the shower after rinsing that I still had quite a lot of coconut bits still in my hair. I was able to get them out after my hair had dried a little by shaking my hair like a dog (yes you heard me, like a dog lol). They then came out.
Actual results - I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised because although my experience with the smell, the use and the washing out wasn't that good, it really made my hair feel super soft and left a nice shine to it.
Unfortunately based on the smell and the fact that I couldn't rinse it out well and just the overall ease of use, I wouldn't re-purchase this again.
Thumbs up for the recyclable pots and the actual feeling and look of my hair.
I mean it too! It’s as if Lush got a truck load of coconuts mashed them up and stuffed the contents inside one of their iconic black pots.
If you are a fan of coconuts you are in for a treat, if you don’t or can’t stand them well maybe you should give this a miss. Curly hair babes out there you NEED get this in your life, honestly! I have tried numerous shampoo and conditioners over the years to cater for not only curly thick hair but also dry condition to very little results, they either look after the curls and leave the hair with a dryness similar to having straw for hair and lifeless looking, or they look after the dryness but don’t support the curls leaving a mass of thick frizzy nastiness. But with this shampoo the first thing I noticed after washing was the lack of straw hair, it actually felt smooth as if I had conditioned it rather than used shampoo. Then the results shone with bouncy soft ringlets that held all day without a hint of frizz or thick fuzz (that builds under curly hair at longer lengths at the back, I call it fuzz as it’s a little different from frizz)
This perfect little black pot with its easy to screw on and off lid sits nicely in a shower caddy, the texture of the shampoo is very odd and puts you off a little at first as you scoop a handful of chunky creamy beige dense liquid out that sits in the same mould as you scooped it out on your hand, no intention of spilling all over the place as it’s just so thick! Heavily perfumed in coconut, with a backing note of vanilla, which is the lingering scent on your hair throughout the day which is a nice touch. I found the first couple of applications very trying, as it’s not the type of shampoo to scrunch into a lather then rinse out in a hurry, you need to rub this through the strands with very little success of creating a lather, it just slicks your hair down with lumpy pieces of mashed up coconut in amongst it. This mashed up coconut mess also coats your shower in a gloopy slippery affair, but as long as you rinse it off as you go its fine. And after a few attempts at getting it rubbed through the hair and scalp you get a feel for it and it gets easier with bigger payoffs from smooth bouncy curls.
I am going to have to repurchase this in bulk if they ever decide to remove it from circulation as I have been using it for about 4-5 weeks now, once or twice a week (I only cleanse once or twice a week as I condition wash everyday to help my hair stay under control) and I am only just reaching half way through this pot as once you are use to the formula you start using less of it. So its excellent at being affordable and long lasting. Just for the record I have thick, coarse, curly shoulder length hair so you can gauge how much of the product I have used in relation to my hair length and type.
Tips: Be aware this is messy and at first you could end up making the bath or shower (where you wash your hair) super sleek with this coconut goodness, and if you don't rinse it as you go it could become hazardous
