I haven’t owned a curler in over 10 years, so I was very excited to be selected for this trial! The last curlers I owned weren’t that great though and I was never able to achieve good quality curls with them. I also own a GHD and there have been many times when I’ve attempted to curl my hair with them, however I’ve never been able to! So these curlers were my last hope for perfect at-home curls!
In the box you get the curlers, a heat resistant pouch, and a use/care manual. The heat resistant pouch is a light beige colour with gold flecks on it. The pouch is very cute, but the outside of it is definitely not heat proof. I rested the curler on it when first warming it up and some of the gold flecks transferred onto the curler.
The curlers have a very long cable, which is great if you’re like me and like to move about while doing your hair. There is a stand attached to the curlers so you can set it down without it burning any surfaces (I only noticed this after burning the outside of the pouch)! The curlers took around 30 seconds to heat up. If you haven’t used them in 60 minutes they will automatically turn off, which is good for peace of mind.
I must admit I googled “how to use curlers” because it’s been so long since I’ve used them and I wanted to do these curlers justice. My hair is quite long at the moment, which can make curling difficult but I found helpful hints online. I’ve included some hints for curling long hair and/or thick hair in the tip section below.
The temperature of the curlers can be adjusted from 140 to 210°C. There is a digital display so you know exactly what temperature they are set at. There is also a boost button which instantly increases the temperature to 210°C. I kept the curlers set around 180 to 200°C as that was the recommended temperature found in the manual for normal/healthy hair.
The barrel of the curler is a decent size. Not too thick or too thin. In my opinion, this curler created the ideal sized curls for soft beachy waves. The curls were also lovely and shiny looking which may be due to the shea oil infused in the ceramic coating. After styling I always used a decent amount of hairspray and after doing so I found the curls lasted all day.
Overall I would highly recommend these curlers! They can be purchased for a decent price (keep an eye out for sales), they are simple to use, and they create shiny curls that last all day.
I was super stoked when I got an invite for this trial. I have very long hair which is frizzy so I use a GHD to straighten it, but have tried many times to try and get beautiful looking curls using my GHD, with no luck.
This is an appealing looking curling wand, I also have the matching hairdryer so I like that they are the same lovely champagne colour. It has a lot of functions, you can adjust the heat which I love. It ranges from 140°-210°, I use it at 180° which is perfect for me. There is a guide in the booklet which says what temperature suits your hair type the best. Then there is the intelligent sensor which controls the heat and stops it from going too hot on your hair and overheating. You can also lock the temperature in which is great as I kept accidentally pushing the buttons while using it. It has a fantastic 3m long swivel cord and comes with a heat resistant pouch. There are far too many functions to list.
It takes about 30 seconds to heat up which is great. The LED indicator blinks while heating up then stops blinking when it is ready to use. My first few attempts were horrible, I got really bad creases left at the top of my hair and it just looked really bad. So I watched countless YouTube videos on how to curl hair and got some pretty great tips.
The trick is to start at the top of your hair not the bottom as I was doing. Sliding the tongs downwards and curling, it definitely takes a lot of practice to get the hang of it, and a couple of burns lol but I am a little clumsy so it was my own fault.
I really love the end look I can achieve with these now, I like to do soft beachy looking curls which look beautiful. After curling I give my hair a good shake out to soften the curls, I also wait until my hair has cooled down before I spritz with hairspray as it makes the look last way longer.
This is a great curling wand which after finally mastering using it I am really loving. Before it was just straight hair I could achieve and now so many other options. Highly recommend this! Thanks BR!
