I normally only purchase salon brand hair care so was quite reluctant to try this. However I was pleasantly surprised. I found this shampoo very gentle on my coloured hair. It cleansed my hair without stripping nutrients from it - essential given the amount of colour I have in my hair. Good value for money when the budget can't stretch to more premium products.

The L’Oreal ELVIVE Colour Protect Shampoo is a great product. Nice and thick and creamy texture and lathers up really well. For the time I have been using the shampoo I found it did maintained my colour and definitely made my hair soft and smell amazing. I will be going out and purchasing this bad boy to continue using!
Tips: I am a massive fan of the Colour Protect Conditioner so recommend using these two together
I was super happy with the timing of this trial as I had my colour booked in the same day that this was due to arrive in the post! This meant I could do this with my hair freshly coloured and see if this product really could preserve it.
The packaging is really nice, I think it makes it look like a slightly more expensive product which is always a plus.
It smells divine, and lathers up nice and thick, so feels very luxurious. Washes out easily, and no residue left behind.
I can still smell the product when I have blow-dried my hair, which is really nice. It feels full and smooth and is definitely more shiny. I have noticed that my hair is still looking as fresh as it did after going to the hair dressers, and I wash my hair EVERY morning, so I think that is a great sign. I feel like my colour is being preserved better than normal, and I will buy this again at the supermarket as it is no more expensive than my normal product – except I will get the bigger bottle.
Tips: This Shampoo is lovely and thick, and lathers up really well, so you don't actually need to use a lot which is great!
In late May I had my long hair dyed a beautiful ombre from dark brown into dark caramelly blonde on the ends – the most blonde I have had since I was a goldilocked toddler. I immediately noticed that my hair was drier and harder to brush – so I was so glad to get a place in the Elvive Colour Protect Trial. Details: Cost? supermarkets sell them for $5 a bottle (not on special) Smell? Not too strong on the purfume – quite typical of other shampoos Feel/Consistency? Some shampoos are too watery – this has a thicker consistency, which made me think it had lots of good stuff in it! (or I imagined it did!) Results? Only TWO applications of the combo (shampoo + Conditioner) and I had 3 people in one day say – “hey, did you do something to your hair?” – I was so happy!! The cherry on the top was my boyfriend commenting on how nice my hair looked as well! The shampoo cleaned my hair in a gentle but robust way- in other words my hair felt really clean but not STRIPPED bare of any natural goodness like some shampoos leave you. I wash my hair only 2-3 times a week, and it doesn’t take much shampoo each time so the product will last ages! I would totally recommend this to a friend who has coloured their hair recently – immediate, noticeable results = Yes please!
Tips: Concentrate on the roots as thats where it needs the shampoo the most - and ALWAYS follow up with Conditioner for the lengths and ends!
I've been dying my hair for over fifteen years now and am still to find my holy grail when it comes to colour protection shampoos & conditioners. I decided to dye my hair the day my trial started so I could give an accurate review. The bottle is a lovely red with gold & silver writing. It is an upside down bottle which I love as it makes it easier to get the product out & you can use every last bit of it.
I have washed my hair every 2-3 days for the past fortnight. The shampoo has a thick white glossy consistency & the smell is lovely.
lots of dye came out during the first four washes. The last few washes saw only a small amount of dye washed out. I have shortish hair & only needed a small amount of shampoo each time.
After throughly rinsing all the shampoo out, my hair felt 'straw' like. Afterwards I used the conditioner as stated but I will review the conditioner separately.
Was really hoping that this product would be that holy grail I was looking for but it seems to be just like all the other products I've used over the years. I've heard that red dye is one of the hardest to keep vibrant & I have found this to be true. This product may work perfectly for other colours but for me the only difference I noticed compared to other products I've used was that my hair remained shinier for longer. My colour did dull fairly quickly but my hair had a beautiful shine to it.
In saying that, I do prefer this product to all the others I have tried and will continue to use it as I love the shine it gave to my hair. I will be recommending it to people.
Tips: Use in conjunction with L'Oréal Paris Elvive Colour Protect Conditioner
To do a really test on this product, I coloured my hair 2 days prior to receiving the shampoo and conditioner. My hair is brown, but I have a lot of white hair especially around my temples and face. In the past when I coloured my hair, the white hair only holds onto the dye for a maximum of 2 washes. With this shampoo and conditioner, the colour lasted 8 washes before the white came through again. So while it didn’t keep the colour of the dye for long, it did keep it coloured for 75% longer than other hair products.
I would continue to use this product.
I really liked this product, to test this out my hair had recently been streaked blonde which does usually tend to fade out nicely as it grows.
This product had a nice consistency wasn't too liquidy and lathered up nicely. I only needed a small amount of this product. This shampoo combined with the conditioner left my hair smooth and easy to brush.
The packaging was nice and sleek and looks lovely in my shower, the lid is easy to open. This product smells amazing and very much like a salon shampoo, the scent also lasts through to when my hair is dry.
I don't think this shampoo fully protected my colour but it hasn't faded as much as when I use other shampoos.
Tips: A little bit of this goes a long way
I was really excited to be picked for this trial, as having coloured my hair for some time now I am always looking for products to help prolong my colour.
I really liked the subtle fragrance of the shampoo, and the fact that you don't have to use a lot of it to get a result, making it an economical option.
What I particularly liked about the L'Oreal Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo is that it seems quite concentrated, in that it doesn't lather up hugely, meaning it is not full of detergents, but rather product that aims to make a concentrated effort to clean your hair. I was also impressed by the fact that once the shampoo was rinsed out my hair felt soft and silky, so many other shampoos leave you hair feeling dry and stringy after they are washed out.
The Shampoo's stated aim is to seal colour, protect hair and prolong radiance. I feel like it delivered on these aims for the most part. I was concerned to see that when I rinsed my hair the first time I used it, my colour was in the foam. Now to be fair, this may be because of the colour I used, rather than the product. Over the weeks of using it I did see more regrowth appearing, but once again I am fairly convinced that says more about the colour product I used than the shampoo and conditioner. The rest of my colour maintained it's strength in colour, with no fade occurring - and I do dye it black, so it's a strong colour to keep.
My local supermarket retails this product for $6.59 which I think represents excellent value for money, and is the reason I would purchase it in the future.
Tips: Thoroughly wet your hair before applying the shampoo, the product distributes better through your hair if it is really wet.
I colour my hair every six to eight weeks and have been trying to find a product that not only protects and prolongs my colour but also nourishes and keeps my hair looking shiny and healthy - needless to say I was incredibly excited to receive this product to try out and I have not been disappointed.
First off I love the packaging, it is classy and gives you the impression that the product you are about to use is of good quality.
The formula is great! A little shampoo goes a long way, it works up into a great lather and I really felt like I could work it into my hair and scalp to get a good clean! I have had no issues with rinsing and getting all of the shampoo out.
The fragrance is devine, really clean and fresh.
As for the colour protection/prolonging part, so far I am quite happy - I wash my hair every second day and after two weeks of use, I have had very little fading of my colour - definitely a lot less than I have had in the past when I use "normal" shampoo's.
All in all I am very happy with this shampoo and the way my hair looks and feels after using it - I will definitely continue using this product.
Tips: Use with the Loreal Elvive Colour Protect Conditioner for best results.
This product is awesome it made my colour last a lot long then it would normally with any other shampoo.it was nice and thick and made my here nice and soft.the only thing I didn't like was that I would have to wash my hair like 3 times a week cos it felt oily
Tips: Only apply to the ends of your hair and work it upwards.and also don't use to much of the product
