I bought this a couple of months ago to see if it would protect my firey red hair from fading too fast and going down the plughole. I had tried other L'Oreal Paris Elvive products before so was rather hopeful that this would do me good just like the others had. First off $6.50 is what I paid for this and I think it is pretty standard now for salon brand supermarket shampoo and conditioners. It is both affordable and also quality for me.
I do love me some red so the fact that this shampoo bottle is bright red and matches my hair makes my heart happy. It stands out like pick me, pick me so of course I had to have it. I liked that it promised to help preserve the colour I have because fade is my number 2 pet peeve. I needed this to slow down so I wasn't spending hundreds of dollars keeping it intense.
I used it on day 5 after dying my hair to see the true power of this baby. The smell is very intense and salon like. It's actually nice but very in your face. The consistency is quite thick and cream in colour. It's quite luxurious really. I massage it in my hair making sure I scrub it to the roots and through the lengths. I leave it in for four minutes (tank supply water and all) and rinse thoroughly. Of course there will be colour down the plug but nowhere near as much as with normal shampoo.
After rinsing my hair feels knotted and straw like eeww!!! I am so glad I don't wash my hair all the time or my hair would be so dry. Even though it feels like straw and lacks moisture I am impressed that my colour still remains intense and in your face so despite the feeling it leaves me with it did what I wanted it to do YAY!
Of course once you use the sibling conditioner the results become very different. To see the results read my L'Oreal Paris Elvive Colour Perfect Conditioner review!
This is my first review that I have ever done on a shampoo. Im never usually too fussed about what brand I get as I think they all do the same. As long as it smells good and it doesnt leave me hair feeling oil Im all for it. I dye my hair with a box dye.... Naughty, I know! But Im lucky with being a brunette as I find its easier to maintain, I only need to dye the roots every 4-6 weeks. So below I am just going to do bullet points of the shampoo (pros and cons) and hopefully this will help you girls that are more intuned to your hair, unlike me :) x
* Ok so I love information, when it comes to products I love to know what special key notes that the brand have put on their bottles to make it stand out from all the rest. First thing I noticed was NEW 80% of colour preserved after 28 washes. I unfortunately havent done that many washes to see if that fact is 100% true, I have maybe done 8 or so washes. I usually only wash my hair 3 times a week, but for the purpose of this review I tried my hardest to wash it at least every second day to put it to the test! So far Im pretty impressed with how well the colour has lasted, especially when sticking to a colour protect range. Its only lightened in certain areas around the roots, I did get my hair cut (and washed) inbetween this process so that proberbly doesnt help but I did find that after about 2 or so weeks that I had coloured my hair (and I did do my whole head to get rid of the old dye that was in it) that it still looks almost freshly done. Im curious to see how long its going to last ;). Another key note that stuck out to me was that it does have UVA and UVB filters in this product, I have never noticed this on any other brands of shampoo (correct me if Im wrong) but I am a big sucker for any protection against the UV rays!!! Who shouldnt be!! This technology is proberbly what has helped my colour last longer as all us brunettes know the sun is a pain at lightening our hair, especially if we are wanting to acheive a nice rich deep colour! So Im all for that!
* The packaging is the only thing that bothers me, if only the base of it was a bit thinker so that its not so easy to fall over in the shower. For some reason that annoys the living day lights out of me, I like products that can stand their own in the shower! :P The smell of this product is pleasent as well, nothing to overpowering it just has a nice fresh and slightly floral scent to it.
Overall I find this shampoo to be a pretty good one. It has managed to keep my colour lasting longer while giving me a good wash. Im still yet to keep at it with this product as Im curious about the 80% factor after 28 washes, Im sure it is a true fact otherwise it would be false advertising but I just struggle to see how thats possible.. But with the UV filters, you cant go wrong with that! :) I hope this has been somewhat helpful, found it a bit difficult as Im not usually a hair focused girl but wanted to give it a go anyways xx
Tips: Sorry ladies no tips for this one. There is one on my conditioner review though :) x
