I don't usually use any type of coconut, castor or argan oil in my hair because in makes my hair too greasy. I'm afraid that if I use it as an overnight treatment so I can just wash it out in the morning instead of having oily roots during the day, it'll rub off onto my pillow and back onto my skin causing my to break out. This product is described as "intense nourishment with no weigh down". I applied it to my wet hair after washing my hair with the shampoo, conditioner and hair mask from the same range and my hair was not greasy at all. Even better, it was silky and smooth - and that lasted for days! I was expected to have to wash my hair after a day due to greasiness but I decided to test the product and by day 3, my hair still isn't oily... which it usually would be by now. Instead my hair is silky as ever and I can't stop running my hands through my usually dry, tangled hair.

Tips: I only applied it to the ends of my hair whilst it was still wet but there's a variety of ways to use it. If you have some time of hair wrap, it would probably work wonders if you applied it from your roots all the way through and left it in overnight!
I luckily obtained this hair oil as part of the set of Elvive Extraordinary Oil products from L’Oreal. It is comes in the standard pump bottle and is a clear oil, like a lotion in texture and thickness. As usual it took me a while to get the pump to work but once I did I was off and running.
The scent is remarkable – just gorgeous with a strong coconut undertone. I have shoulder length, dry hair, and I'm always on the lookout for good hair products and use heaps of them. I’ve used a lot of different oils and this one is definitely among the best. It says it is for weightless nutrition, satin shine, and perfect manageability. I’d say it meets that claim.
The directions say to rub 2 or 3 precious drops between the palms to warm the oil then apply evenly to the lengths and ends of wet or dry hair. I’ve been applying it to wet hair, as I prefer to use it that way. It makes my hair a little more conditioned at the ends and less inclined to frizz or fly-away. I feel that it is providing nutrition to the dry ends. It is very light and doesn’t leave my hair looking greasy.
My favourite oil is the L’Oreal Elvive extraordinary hair oil so it’s not surprise that I love this one so much as it is very similar.
At $19.99 for the 100ml bottle, I think this is a great buy. I will repurchase and recommend it to anyone who wants to improve the look and feel of their hair.
Tips: Warm between your palms and apply to the ends of your hair. Massage the remaining oil into your hands for soft scented skin.
The Loreal extraordinary oil is one of the best hair oils I have used, here is why:
The oil comes in a light orange glass bottle containing 100mL of product. The packaging is elegant and appears more upmarket.
The consistency is oily and the runniness is dependent on the warmth of the room it has been stored in, i.e. thicker in a colder room. It feels silky on the palms of hands and runs easily through the hair being instantly noticeable where it has been applied.
The bottle has an easy pump applicator with a twist so that it can be locked for travelling or when not being used.
The scent is lovely with a hint of coconut.
Once opened, the packaging claims the oil will last 18 months. This is a reasonable time for the 100mL in the bottle.
Very little oil is required for thorough application. My hair is down to the middle of my back, thick and curly. One to two pumps (~3-4mL total) is all I need, it really does go a long way! The claim of the oil is that it is 'weightless' and 'non-greasy;' I agree mostly with this comment. Oils can readily flatten my hair and make it look greasy so the quantity of oil I apply never needs to be much. The Loreal extraordinary oil did not weigh my hair down and surprisingly did not make it feel greasy or like I have a lot of product in it, this is hard to find with oils. After application, my hair is left feeling luxurious, hydrated and soft.
Personally, I would only need to use the oil 1-2 times per week, but this may vary for each person's hair condition.
At $19.99 per 100mL bottle and only requiring about 3-4mL per usage, the oil should technically last 25-33 usages. If I am using 1-2 times per week this should last 13-33 weeks which is well within the 18 months of the period after opening on the label. This equates to $0.60 - 0.79c per application. Compared to other hair oils, I would say this is about the middle of the price market.
Overall I am really happy with how the hair oil has made my hair feel. I will definitely be including this in my hair care regime a couple of times per week.
Would I recommend this? Absolutely, especially if you have hair like me: thick, curly, and a tendency to be dry and/or knotty.
Tips: Start with one pump, it will likely be enough!
Loved this oil! I've never used a lot of oils in the past since they normally make my hair too oily. I was surprised that the directions only said to use 3-4 drops, rather than the usual 3-4 pumps. The formula is just so nourishing you only need the smallest amount. My hair is medium length and I found that one pump was the perfect amount, with enough left on my hands for any stray hairs around my hairline. I used it mostly after styling to smooth my ends and tame fly-aways. It smells amazing and found my hair didn't get oily, it only ever felt moisturised and sleek. This has already become my go-to finishing product and I am absolutely in love with how it makes my hair look.
I used this daily on wet hair before drying my hair off. It leaves my hair feeling very soft and smooth and you don't need to use a lot to get this effect. It has a fabulous fragrance that I adore and it adds shine to my hair which I love. It is easy to use and has a pump type dispenser which saves wastage by dispensing a decent amount.
Tips: Use on wet or dry hair. I used on my hair after I had "overdried" it to calm down the frizziness of my hair
I am normally quite hesitant when trying hair oils as i always think they will make my hair oily or greasy, however I was willing to give this a try. This is an oil which comes in a glass bottle with a handy little pump, you only need a small amount of product to get the benefits- i found 2-3 pumps was plenty for my mid length hair. This product does have a slight coconut scent however it is not too powerful. After using this product my hair has been sooooo soft, smells amazing and it has definitely helped my hair not feel so dry which is a miracle in winter. It lives up to its claims as my hair is wayyy more nourished and is not weighed down. Would highly recommend for normal to dry hair like my own.
Tips: I used this before washing my hair, just put it on and leave it on for a few mins (the longer the better), then follow with shampoo and conditioner. I think this product would be best used once a week or maybe before every second hair wash.
I'm a daily hair oil/serum user. I have quite fine hair, but also dry due to colouring and styling - so oils are my 'must'.
I used this oil two ways and definitely favoured it as an overnight treatment!
Overnight Hair treatment. This was the winner for me, for three reasons. 1. I felt my hair was actually nourished and absorbed the oil, 2. The texture I was left sleeping with was soft and didn’t bother me, and 3. My hair was so soft and hydrated the next morning when styling
At bedtime I applied about 3 pumps of oil to my ends, avoiding my scalp. I didn’t find there was a scent which I was quite happy about. In the morning I’d wake up and my hair felt oily but not terrible, and I’d shampoo/condition like normal. Afterwards my hair definitely felt nourished and softer than if I’d just used the shampoo/conditioner.
As a Hair Serum I used the oil daily on towel dried hair and also used it as a finishing balm, and with both uses they worked really well. My hair was definitely smoother and there was less dry end frizz. It’s not a heavy oil, so a little oil as a finishing balm definitely tamed the fly-aways and gave a little shine. It absorbed through the day, leaving my hair feeling lovely and soft, and not oily. You only need a tiny smidge for smoothing hair after styling.
The overnight hair mask was definitely the big win with this oil, but it is also a fabulous serum for wet hair. There’s a lot of product to the bottle, for a reasonable price, so it’s definitely a winner if you’re looking for a product that you can use as a hair treatment and a serum.
I’ve touched on the packaging last, because this is just a personal preference thing and not reflective of the products performance at all. The oil bottle is glass and fairly dense/heavy. It’s very elegant though. It has a pump dispenser that is perfect for dispensing just the right amounts of product. Not too generous and you don’t fire it all over the bathroom either. However, with it being glass, I have experienced first hand that if you handle it with residual hair oil on your hands and it slips from your grip and you drop it to the floor, you hold your breath and hope for a good outcome. Thankfully it didn’t smash (still not sure how) - by design or maybe by luck. The tiles are intact. But I’m just not a fan of glass with a house full of tiled floors and I know that’s not on the right side of the environmental thing – and I feel the guilt, but smashed glass is bad too! It’s the only down side to this product.
I'd happily buy this oil above other brands as it delivers at a great price, I just wish it wasn't glass or I was less clumsy.
Tips: Use sparingly! A little goes a long way.
After washing and conditioning I towel dried my hair and applied around 2-3 drops of the hair oil as instructed I rubbed it in my hands to warm it then ran my hands through my hair paying particular attention to the sides where my hair has a tendency to stick out and frizz. There was a small oily smell not unpleasant as such but not great. I noticed that the style I had styled my hair into was staying put and wondered if that would last as normally I find having fine hair no style stays put. Usually when I apply any extra product to my hair, straight away it weights it down but this was not happening. There was no oily greasy feel either which was nice. 4 hours later and my hair felt great, clean not weighted down at all in fact quite bouncy and still in the general style I combed it into. I have repeated the above process each time I have washed my hair in the last two weeks and so far I am getting the same results. I have not noticed, as yet, any product build up which usually makes my hair go limp. I am very happy with the hair oil it has tamed my frizzes, given it a lovely shine and seems to encourage the natural waves I have. I will continue to use this product as I like the results so far also I want to see how they go in a longer test environment.
Tips: 2 drops is plenty for short hair using more resulted in the greasy look initially.
I liked the oil, as it tamed fly aways, but did find it took a little bit to get right.
It was a lot heavier to use, and again a little bit went a long way. One squirt in my hands, rubbing them together and through a high pony was HEAPS- and I have very, very long hair.
I loved the smell, and how soft it felt all day- I couldn't stop touching it!
I would use it again, to tame fly away, more after straightening and styling- otherwise it may be a tad too rich. This could be due to the watery texture- but again this made it easier to use. I think its more of a product you just have to play with to get it right!
For someone with dry hair- this would be amazing.
I’ve used many oil treatments over the years ,so was keen to see how this one performed . It didn’t quite deliver for me as well as others I have used before ,however price does come in to it and the others were more expensive . It did define my curls which is what I want ,but not as well as others and was a bit messy to use being an oil ,I actually prefer a cream . The pump I found a bit annoying at first but soon got the hang of it . As with all oils one has to be careful not to use too much ,or you end up with just greasy looking hair I’m not sure I would buy this product again ,I find the garnier one which is comparative in price slightly better . Again fragrance is over powering for me so that makes me less inclined to use it with the other products . However not too bad considering the RRP and I’m sure would work well for many .
Tips: Make sure you use a little only and warm it up in your hands as per instructions
