Would not us again on my hair type

The Loreal extraordinary shampoo was not good on my hair type. It made my hair exceptionally knotty and dry. I would not use again and this is why:

The extraordinary shampoo comes in a relatively large 325mL plastic see-through orange bottle with a fresh and captivating label design that stands out on the supermarket shelf. The lid, like most shampoo bottles, is a flip open and easy to use whilst in the shower. The consistency is relatively runny but also gel-like. The fragrance, like the other Loreal extraordinary products, is the same lovely sweet coconut scent which I really like!

Application of the shampoo is easy with the flip-open lid and readily foams up when massaged into hair and scalp. Not much product is required for a thorough wash.

My hair can be very knotty, frizzy and sometimes quite dry. Unfortunately, the application of the extraordinary shampoo made my hair go into a knotted, dry mass in the shower to the point where the conditioner that followed was struggling to have a good effect. This is not what I want in a shampoo, even if it technically washes my hair well. It really made my hair feel awful.

The claim on the packaging states the shampoo is 'nourishing' to the hair, but it honestly felt like it was damaging my hair and setting me up for a bad hair day of flat, dry, frizzy and knotty hair.

Personally, I wash my hair about 4-5 times per week, but not always using shampoo. At $7.99 per 325mL bottle, I would expect the shampoo to last me a good 1-2 months. Compared to other shampoos, I would say this is middle to the upper price range.

Overall, I am disappointed with how the shampoo made my hair feel, both during and after application. For this reason, I would not use this product again after finishing my current bottle.

Would I recommend this? Not on my hair type: thick, curly, blonde.

Tips: This review is for the shampoo solely on its own. When used as part of the Extraordinary regime (shampoo + conditioner + mask + oil) my hair was left in good condition due to how good the conditioner and hair mask are.

Shampoo leaves oily residue at the roots

I bought both the shampoo and conditioner as my ends were really dry, and my hair just overall felt lifeless. The promise of no weigh down ad intense nourishment sounded promising. I do admit that I do have an oily scalp, however, I was not prepared for the oil slick that was left on my roots. I even tried not applying th conditioner to the roots and only applying it to the ends, this did not seem to help. Which made me realise the Shampoo was also leaving an oily residue. My hair was oilier, and greasier than before I washed my hair. I would recommend to someone that perhaps doesnt have an oily scalp, but to be fair, I did not expect the weigh down that was promised wouldn't happen.

Tips: Maybe don't use if you have an even slightly oily scalp

Left hair oily

Did not enjoy this shampoo unfortunately, it left my hair very oily after washing and rinsing well. I usually love L'ORÉAL products so must be the coconut causing this reaction. After washing my hair was more oily than it was before!

bit of a let down

Holy moly the size of these shampoo and conditioner bottles is crazy. A whopping 325ml. the bottle is easy to grab in the shower and easy to squeeze the product out. The flip top lid is sturdy and doesn’t cut you like some flip tops can.

I have rather dry and abused hair and sometimes some shampoos can be very harsh on my hair and dry it out even more. I normally only stick to salon shampoos and toners so i was excited but nervous to try this shampoo but I was pleasantly surprised.

The clear shampoo has a very slight sweet coconut scent it is mild and in no way over powering. This shampoo doesn’t really lather a lot which is ok. After I rinse it out, my hair does feel clean but almost slightly “squeaky” clean or stripped, it felt strange. I was worried how much conditioner I would have to use just to get it back to ‘normal’ this is probably my most least favourite in this range.

I don’t think I would repurchase this again as I just really didn’t like how it left my hair after I rinsed it out.

Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Shampoo

the scent of this is quite interesting it is a mix of coconut and caramel with a really slight fresh fruity or floral twist this is not a strong in your face coconut scent like others. I think lovers of caramel or praline fragrances would like the smell of this shampoo. As far Loreal products I went off them for a while as they test on animals but say that they do not which misleads people because for example they own the body shop which also claims to not test on animals yet the additives to source products and things that make up the product could be tested on animals and or not from a sustainable or ethical source. This being said plenty of its competitors test on animals too or sell in china too. I really did love the scent from a conditioner from this line years ago before I changed to silicone/diamenthicone free stuff so that and the double points on Loreal products from BR right now really got me to go out and seek some Loreal brand products to review/. This shampoo is nice enough and appealing with the golden yellow bottle and I have already mentioned how it smells. To start off my hair seems to like the product seems to smooth the hair some what (I did not try the matching conditioner yet) and lathered quite easily - its not sulfate free. I am not fully convinced that this does not strip your hair of natural oils it might just seem that way because coats the hair in " extra ordinary " oil - coconut. Coconut can help smooth but it can clog pores so I won't use this with out alternating between every few washes. I also read some where that if your hair is already dry that coconut might actually not be a good idea Coconut oil can cause protein build up for these hair types, blocking your hair from much needed moisture which makes your hair even drier, stiffer and less elastic. Less elasticity means more breakage when combing or styling. Therefore, using coconut oil as a hair mask can actually make your hair drier, brittle and more damaged than it was before! interesting right? anyway, I am not totally sold on this shampoo though it is nice to use some times I am not in a big rush to get another one.

A nicely scented gentle shampoo

This a really good size bottle of shampoo for the price. A little goes a very very long way. The bottle itself is really large, but easy to get product out of. There’s no hand grip workouts with dispensing this shampoo.

To use, it takes very little to get a lot of suds, and applying it’s not a heavy feeling shampoo, but you feel like you are getting your hair clean without stripping it of all natural oils. It’s quick to rinse off, and my hair was left feeling incredibly soft and smooth. Definitely not that squeaky clean feeling you get from some shampoo's

It’s got quite a subtle coconut scent to it, which is quite nice. All in all, it’s not a shampoo that wow’d me, but there was nothing bad about the experience either. My hair did feel a little more hydrated than some other ‘nourishing’ shampoo’s I've tried. I have coloured hair, and didn’t see any colour fade and I had used this the day after colouring!

There’s other favourites from L’oreal that I would possibly choose first, mostly based on ingredients, but I wouldn’t snub this as its definitely one of their better ones for dry hair - and delivers on softness like some of my favourites. On it's own it doesn't conquer all my 'dry hair' woes, but as a regime it's got great potential!

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Shampoo

The L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Shampoo is a lovely scented shampoo which will leave your hair clean but not stripped of moisture.

I like the scent as it does not smell too artificial. The formulation lathers well and rinses off pretty easily. I would say it would not suit you if you have you have super oily hair not because the formula is oily but because it is pretty gentle.

Tips: If you have oily hair then you may need to apply a few times as the shampoo is pretty gentle.

Shmpoo Heaven

I was excited to receive this shampoo to trial as I am a big fan of L’Oreal. The shampoo comes in a large 325ml plastic bottle with a pop top. It is brown, which I expect from the packaging of a coconut flavoured L’Oreal product! It is for normal to dry hair which is ideal for me as I have dry hair.

The product is thick and clear – I like clear shampoos – no staining to my white hair. The scent, oh my my the scent! It is a very delicious coconut scent, which somehow also has an undertone of smells-like-a-hair-product about it. What a delicious way to start the day.

The product claims to be a weightless nutrition shampoo which is a perfect dose of nutrition for free flowing hair and infinite softness. My hair certainly does feel soft and weightless after using this shampoo. And also very clean. It doesn’t lather a lot, but that’s fine by me. It doesn’t leave any residue or leave my hair feeling greasy or limp.

At $7.99 it is a great price for a large bottle of a great product. I would definitely buy it again.

Tips: Use with the conditioner at least, and the mask and oil if you can.

Best experience ever!!!!

This shampoo is amazing!!! From the start to the feel at the end after your hair is dried! I have very long thick hair so the fact that it easily lathered was a plus, didn’t need to use half a bottle to clean my hair! The smell was amazing and normally I find it quite hard to wash shampoo out of my hair but this shampoo easily rinsed out! Now I have to find a hiding place from my stepdaughter who used it and loves it!!

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Shampoo

This product has a great fragrance and lathers up very well. My hair is much smoother and feels silkier after using for a week. It has added shine to my hair which I like. I would definitely buy again

Tips: You don't need a huge amount of shampoo to get the full effect
