I was fortunate to get this on a Trial from the BR team. All the packaging is pretty much what you expect. The bottle for application is a good size, easy to hold & made for easy application. The first thing that hit me when I opened the colourant tube to put in the developer was the smell of Black Currant! I was not expecting it to smell like it's namesake! Very nice touch! I found the formula to be a little drippy, disappointing as it states a "non drip formula" but then again because it's a little runny, it was easy to get through my knotty tangles. I really didn't like the instructions. They were a little simple (although home colouring is pretty much all the same process) & most of the writing on the page was in Arabic or something of the like. Only a 20 min developing time which is great, I don't really want to sit for a million years waiting. The colour came of my skin easily which is great as it was very red on my skin & washed out of my basin easily too (I made a bit of a mess with the drippiness). The coverage seems to be pretty good, I can't find any greys so it did what it promised there. The end result is a little darker than I was expecting but that's pretty usual I find. It's not so much shiny but it's healthy looking. I'm not really a fan of the Casting Creme Conditioner that came with it, although a great size bottle (would get a few washes from it) it's really thick & took ages to wash out & off my body. I probably won't use this again to be honest.

Reviews
This product is great if you pick the right color. I have used it previously with the iced chocolate shade and found that it gave my hair a wonderful shine and added a lovely depth of color. However, with the sample I was sent I tried the dark blonde shade. At first we had an issue with the gloves as they were far too small for my boyfriends hands, then there seemed to be absolutely no color change even though my hair isn't dark blonde to begin with. It has developed with a couple of washes but only seems to be at the roots. While I have had successful results in the past I am disappointed but will probably still use this product in future but be more careful with shade selection.
I have been using L'Oreal Casting Ceme Gloss for many years. I had tried many semi permanent colours but did not like the results. However, this product really suits my hair. When living overseas I would take back 6 months supply back from each visit to NZ to ensure I had the look and colour I preferred as some colours were not available in China. This product leaves my hair well conditioned, glossy and covers grey so well. In fact, people think I have highlighted hair but it is just the effect of one colour. L'Oreal give a generous amount of conditioner too. Application is easy, not messy, and in half an hour the process is done. People think it is my actual hair colour!!!!! It is so cost effective. I am disappointed that supermarkets do not stock my colour thus I do not get their specials but my local pharmacy usually has biannual buy 3 for price of two which is cost effective. My hairdresser compliments me on my 'colour job' and agrees this product really suits my hair. I have introduced many friends to this product.
Tips: Look for the supermarket or chemist specials.
In May 2013 i went from light blonde to dark brown and after using many packet dyes to maintain it and avoid my blonde regrowth, it would continuously go wrong every single time, it would always be too dark no matter how long i left it in for. My hairdresser recommended i used a temporary hair dye to avoid too much colour build up. I tried this product and it is my LIFE SAVER! It colours over my blonde roots perfectly and fades literally within the 28 washes it suggests. I don't think i could ever go back to a different boxed brand. Not only is it a good colour match to my hair, it is extremely easy to apply although i have yet to attempt it on myself. Highly recommend this product if you're like me and wanting to avoid the unnecessary colour build up from continuous dyes! Definitely recommend.
Tips: I always leave this product in a little bit less than it recommends, for specifically dying roots i leave it in for approximately 13-15 minutes and it matches my previous hair colour really well!
I am a hairdressing tutor and this is probably the only shop colour I would recommend. The shine is awesome but the colour does fade quite quickly. Hair feels good afterwards as it is a low ammonia product.
Tips: You will get a re growth so apply to roots only the second time just add to rest 10 mins before wash off to refresh. This will be better for the hairs condition
I have been using this product off and on for a number of years, it's the only one I use if I want to go darker (I'll always go get highlights or balayage done professionally!). There are many reasons I keep going back to it. Firstly, I find it extremely hard to find a semi-permanent at home hair colour, but Casting Creme Gloss can be purchased at most supermarkets, pharmacies, The Warehouse and Farmers, although you might have to go to the later two to get the colour you're after. The colour is really easy to use, even for a hair novice, and I've managed to always be able to colour my hair with it myself without roping in a friend. I generally leave the product in for the recommended amount of time and it works well. I find the first couple of days it normally comes out looking a bit darker but then after a couple of washes it fades just enough to look really nice. When I had longer hair, I always used two boxes but with my current length (medium, just past shoulders) I was able to get away with one. The only downside I found to the product is I find it doesn't fade completely out, five months after I had last used it you could see regrowth coming in, which can effect results when lightening your hair. Overall, I would definately recommend Casting Creme Gloss. It gives a really good result at a great price, less than half what you would pay for the same result at a salon for a Global Hair Colour.
Tips: Definately use the conditioner that comes with it. It has a nice smell and makes your hair really glossy, and there's enough in the bottle for a few uses.
I have used this product many times over the years but have only recently (past nine months) have returned using it again.
After having my hair Bleach Blonde I decided to grow my hair out and keep the natural, healthy look. This product helps me to achieve Shiny, Healthy looking hair without any nasty Chemicals.
I find permanent Hair Dye makes your hair look dull after a while and the ammonia makes it unhealthy.
This is one of the only Semi-Permenant Hair Dyes I can find on the market.
Easy Application, Lovely smell and the conditioner provided leaves your hair feeling so silky.
Will continue to purchase this product.
Tips: I use colour - Amber on my mousey Brown Hair to add a warm red shine to my hair
I loved this hair dye as a semi-permanent option (unfortunately it is one of the only semi-permanent options in my supermarket though) I found that the colour lasted a decent amount of time and didn't damage my hair too badly. I initially used this dye to try and restore some of the shine back into my hair at my hairdressers suggestion. I used a dark brown colour and I found it coloured over previous dyes well and also turned out true to the colour advertised.
I did however notice my shampoo stripped quite a bit of colour out of my hair and I often had brown water coming from my hair due to the dye running out. But that could be due to my hair type
I constantly use the casting creme gloss as I know the results and the smell is heavenly. However I do find that The brown colours go a lot darker than advertised on the box, which can be a shock at first, but they do fade considerably. On the upside it makes your hair mega silky and amaaazing.
I was lucky enough to trial another ammonia free hair dye and I have to say that I'm a total convert! You don't get the horrible chemical smell, any excess dye that may have ventured its way onto your face or ears wipes off with ease and you still get the 100% coverage of a dye that does have ammonia in it!
The instruction leaflet was easy to follow and all of the bottles were clearly labeled. I LOVED the conditioner. It's got such a yummy sweet scent and you get a decent amount so you have plenty for extra washes.
What I really loved about this dye, is that it's semi-permanent which means it *should* wash out after about 20 washes. For someone who is maybe trailing new colours, this would be perfect because you get to do that without the complete commitment.
I chose the Light Brown colour in this brand because being summer, I thought it would be nice to go a little lighter than I normally would (I would usually have choc brown). Unfortunately, it's not the colour I got! I ended up with a mid to dark brown so that would be something I would be wary of in future purchases.
Overall, this dye left my hair shiny, a gorgeous colour and nice and soft! I'd definitely buy it again!
Tips: - Keep in mind that the shades may run darker than the box suggests, as I found out! - If you have longer than shoulder length hair or it's really thick, I'd be inclined to get two boxes.
