Overall, I really enjoyed using this hair colour, and I will buy it again. My first impressions were that the product was a bit nicer than the ones I usually purchase - I loved that the box included a shampoo for after the dye, and a purple hair mask. At first I was dubious about the comb applicator that is optional, but I actually really liked using this. The instructions were clear - and the colour easy to mix. I brushed my hair before starting, and used the applicator comb to colour my roots first. I found the comb so helpful for this, it just took me a minute to work out to squeeze until you see dye, then pull the comb through.. The texture of the product was good, not too runny, and I dont think the smell was as strong as other brands I have used. The only thing I found slightly annoying about using the product was thegloves were a bit tight around my knuckles, so I couldnt get them off easily while waiting for the colour to develop. I really loved having the shampoo to use once rinsing the dye out, and the purple mask was great. When I had finished, I could see that the dye had covered my greys really well (not 100% but more than usual), and the cool tone is exactly what I have been looking for in a colour. So far the colour is looking good, and I will continue to use the mask weekly. I would repurchase, although maybe a shade lighter as even the light brown is dark on me.

I have never used Loreal before this was my first time. I really liked the packaging. The instructions were written on the box too. I have dark brown hairs. My previous dye was hazel brown so I had a slight tint of it. I followed all the instructions carefully. Didn’t have any itching or irritation. After washing and blow drying my hair the hair color didn’t change much. This was already mentioned on the box that what base color would have the effect of this dye so it was as expected. But it did cover my grey hairs yaayyy. My hairs were smooth, silky and shiny which made me fall in love with ‘em. I highly recommend this product if you wanna play safe ;)
I have been using box colours for over a couple of decades now, and in the past few years have to colour my roots every 4 to 5 weeks. I have used quite a few different brands like Schwarzkopf, Garnier & L’Oreal but this is the first time I have used a product with a shampoo as part of the process. I tried 5.11 Ultra Light Brown, a triple care colour with a protective cool colouring Cream, a post colour purple shampoo and an anti brass purple mask, all in one care for scalp & hair as well colouring the hair. It was easy to use, and one of the best products I have used. My hair turned out a bit darker than I expected, but similar to the end result shown on the pack. There was a comb attachment with the colour. I didn’t use this as I found it pours too much colour in one go. I am quite pleased with this product. I have never achieved 100% grey coverage with any other products. Not only that, after washing, my hair feel really soft and silky and so much healthier, not to mention the shine. This is the first time I have received so many compliments after a colour job. A few people said I looked much younger!
Tips: Tip: Use a brush as it helps to cover hair evenly and makes it easy to apply the colour.
Well, what can I say - in 15 minutes the colour creme had grabbed my hair and it was dark. I am hoping it will fade. To use was easy - just follow instructions - hardly any smell. 100% grey coverage is not exactly true. I still have grey/ white in patches even though I covered every strand. I have been coloring my hair myself since I was 15 so knew what to do. There was no conditioning creme with it as most other products have so used my own. Will be interested to see how long it lasts. Gloves are useless thankfully I have my own. Would I buy it myself probably no - I think I will stick to the one I always buy.
Tips: Don't leave in for 30 mins unless you are wanting dark hair.
I was excited to give this dye a go to help even out my hair colour and provide depth to my light blonde locks. The pack was very attractive and had comprehensive instructions to follow. My hair is just below shoulder length and unlike other box dyes this one had more than enough dye to fully saturate my hair. The process was simple and smelt ok. The result was very soft hair that was a cooled down shade but a lot darker than I was expecting. I felt it was more a shade of muddy mousey brown than a light cool ash blonde, but hopefully with prolonged use of the purple hair mask they provided in the box it may become cooler. I would definitely use this dye again for the ease of use and the way my hair felt after but I would be a little more careful choosing a shade to match my desired outcome.
Tips: The multiple nozzled bottle top they provide is excellent for getting full root coverage.
I suffer from grey hairs and am not at the stage of life where I am ready to embrace them! I am a frequent home hair dyer as I do not have the funds to get them professionally coloured every six weeks so am always happy to try a new hair dye. Strand tests are non existent and I'm a 'dye it and hope for the best' sort of person who is happy to have her greys disappear!
The dye was quick and easy to mix up and apply. I didn't use the attachment, preferring to just put it straight onto my roots and then apply it down the hair shaft. I left it in for the stated 30 minutes and then used the purple shampoo which took away any dye smell. The conditioner left my hair feeling silky smooth and was easy to brush afterwards.
When my hair dried I was impressed with the coverage and the colour... and not a grey hair in sight! I could feel that this was a great quality hair dye (trust me, I've used some duds in my time) and would highly recommend this product.
I trialled L'Oreal Paris Excellence Cool Crème in 4.11 Ultra Ash Brown. My natural hair colour is a mix of light and medium brown tones. I opt to trial a darker shade of brown for the winter months. Upon opening the box the instructions showed a 3 step process Step 1 mixing/applying the solution Step 2 Post Colour purple Shampoo Step 3 Anti-Brass Purple mask
Step 1 was incredible easy. Mixing was easy – insert the crème from the tube into the bottle and shake to mix. With this Step you can either apply by squirting contents directly from the bottle or (as the instructions recommend) use a comb attachment and comb the dye through hair. I have long straight hair so attempted to use the comb as per the instructions on the box. Unfortunately I didn’t master this I would squeeze the bottle gently while combing and ended up with big spurts all through my hair. I ended up taking off this attachment and putting the original attachment back on. This worked better as I was able to squirt the mixture in lines and then massage into hair. I waited the 30 mins as per instructions and then rinsed my hair. Then onto Step 2. I applied the post colour shampoo. This had a really nice scent and was easy to work up to a later and massage in. Step 3 is the Anti brass purple mask. I applied a small amount and combed through my hair. The instructions recommended leaving in for 5 mins and then rinsing. I did this but unfortunately somewhere along the way my hair felt dry and was incredibly hard to brush. I had to jump back in the shower and put conditioner in to soften it otherwise I would have had a head full of tangled hair. Overall this is a product that is easy to diy. Only issues I had were with the gloves. I have small hands but these were almost kid sized and I could barely get my fingers in half way. I also feel like the aftercare could do with some improvement as my hair felt dry and was extremely tangled. I would use again as am happy with the shade - It is quite a lot darker than what I thought but I like it. Next time I would use my own gloves and will make sure I use my own conditioner.
My main purpose for colouring my hair was to cover the greys - my goal was achieved very nicely!
The colour was very spreadable.... it covered my hair sufficiently (I have long hair and can find some colours are a bit on the short side).
I did the usual colour routine, covering the important areas first and probably left it on for a little bit longer than advised.
When rinsing, the excess colour rinsed out well, without leaving any residue on my towel. The conditioner left my hair feeling very soft and no tangles.
The colouring kit also included a little comb to apply directly to the bottle - I didn’t use this.
Approx one week later, my hair has lightened in the areas that were already lighter in colour, but my greys are still fully covered! My hair still feels very healthy and not dry at all.
I used Ultra Light Brown, in my hair it was more of an Ultra Brown.
I was hoping that this trial would work out for me but unfortunately it didn't. Firstly the gloves are too tight and tore them when I put them on so I had to use other gloves, yes I do have big hands but the gloves should be a universal size.
The application was fine and it didn't have an overpowering smell. After you rinse the colour you shampoo your hair with a purple blue shampoo then followed with conditioner. Usually you don't wash your hair for several days to ensure the colour sticks. My hair once dry is soft and shiny.
I'm a brunette with grey and the light brown I used matched but unfortunately it didn't cover my greys. I have been colouring my hair for many years with great success. Yes my greys are stubborn but it should have covered them.
The colour on my previously treated hair is a beautiful cool brown close to my natural shade and is very shiny. If only it covered my greys I would continue to use this.
Tips: Before rinsing use the colour to remove any marks/stains from your skin. This one does remove well.
This product arrived in a typical colouring kit box. The colouring ingredients are easily mixed in the squeeze bottle and create a creamy liquid that flows well. It was very easy to apply and even comes with a unique comb applicator that made doing mid-lengths a breeze. I did occasionally get a whiff of ammonia, but only a few times when I had the bottle right under my nose, and once on my hair I didn't notice it. My hair is below collarbone length, although very fine, and the one bottle was more than enough for a root to tip application. I noticed that during the processing time the colour remained slightly purple tinged showing its got a good dose of anti-brass ingredients. I chose level 7.11, with a natural level of 5 to 6, and plenty of grey around my hair line. This was absolutely true to colour on my greys, and also on the blonde ends from some highlights a few years ago. My natural hair ALWAYS throws gold, I was a bit rose gold as a kid and hairdressers are always challenged with getting highlights up enough. I'm thrilled to say my darker hair has landed in a very slightly warm 7, which for me is pretty amazing. It's not a horrible brassy orange which is what I've received in the past at salons, so for a home colour I was impressed with the results.
This is such a great option for those wanting good grey coverage, but without ending up with an awful shade of orange on your natural hair.
Tips: Follow instructions and remember to cover clothing and maybe move the shower curtain out of harms way!
