I am a regular home colourist but L'Oreal Paris Excellence Cool Creme system was quite different from others used. The colour range is darker tones than I would usually use and I went with Ultra Ash Brown, which I thought would be a good winter colour, highlighting fair skin and blue eyes. Firstly the colour creme tube opened using a removal of a ring system rather than the pointy top of the lid. Super easy and effective though. Usually I find the gloves way to large...you slip and slide inside them and sometimes they feel like they will slip right off. L'Oreal Paris Excellence Cool Creme gloves were the other extreme. I struggled to get them on, with the body of the hand being too small, I was unable to get my finger tips to the ends. The colour creme did have a slight odour to make your eyes water. I usually apply a smear of Vaseline around the hair line and all over my ears...I wasn't sure I trusted the shampoo to remove this residue. I thought I'd give the comb applicator a whirl, even though I have short hair, not long as they recommend use for. It was a disaster. With the Creme blobbing and falling down my front. Replacing the nozzle, I went back to my usual system of squeezing out with one hand and spreading/working through with the other. I waited 30 minutes then washed using the purple shampoo. Again another snazzy way of opening the product with you literally breaking the lid system off, leaving a hole for the product to come out. The shampoo worked up well and I was super glad to say it did what it says, as there was no dye residue on my scalp after the process was finished. The final step after shampoo was to use the VERY dark blue/purple moisturising/anti-brass mask. The colour was almost shocking. The instructions say a hazelnut size amount. Sadly I don't know how big a hazelnut is, and used a blob. Left in for about 5 minutes then rinsed out. My hair was again soft and felt moisturised. Even as I feel my hair now, it feels healthy and not stressed by the process. An enjoyable process with clear instructions and novel ways of presenting the product. The anti-brass mask is a game changer! I highly recommend, but the colour palette is small and would not suit everyone.

Tips: The methods of opening product are different......read the instructions so you don't muck it up.
Overall, I really enjoyed using this hair colour, and I will buy it again. My first impressions were that the product was a bit nicer than the ones I usually purchase - I loved that the box included a shampoo for after the dye, and a purple hair mask. At first I was dubious about the comb applicator that is optional, but I actually really liked using this. The instructions were clear - and the colour easy to mix. I brushed my hair before starting, and used the applicator comb to colour my roots first. I found the comb so helpful for this, it just took me a minute to work out to squeeze until you see dye, then pull the comb through.. The texture of the product was good, not too runny, and I dont think the smell was as strong as other brands I have used. The only thing I found slightly annoying about using the product was thegloves were a bit tight around my knuckles, so I couldnt get them off easily while waiting for the colour to develop. I really loved having the shampoo to use once rinsing the dye out, and the purple mask was great. When I had finished, I could see that the dye had covered my greys really well (not 100% but more than usual), and the cool tone is exactly what I have been looking for in a colour. So far the colour is looking good, and I will continue to use the mask weekly. I would repurchase, although maybe a shade lighter as even the light brown is dark on me.
My main purpose for colouring my hair was to cover the greys - my goal was achieved very nicely!
The colour was very spreadable.... it covered my hair sufficiently (I have long hair and can find some colours are a bit on the short side).
I did the usual colour routine, covering the important areas first and probably left it on for a little bit longer than advised.
When rinsing, the excess colour rinsed out well, without leaving any residue on my towel. The conditioner left my hair feeling very soft and no tangles.
The colouring kit also included a little comb to apply directly to the bottle - I didn’t use this.
Approx one week later, my hair has lightened in the areas that were already lighter in colour, but my greys are still fully covered! My hair still feels very healthy and not dry at all.
I used Ultra Light Brown, in my hair it was more of an Ultra Brown.
When i opened the packet, their was alot of items in the packet. Firstly the hair dye x 2, their was also a purple shampoo and a purple conditioner, also a comb adapter to screw onto the hair dye for better application, and of course gloves.\nI mixed the hair dye then added the special comb. I thought this might of made it easier to use, but personally i much prefer the nozzle for application. Gloves.....hair dyes never come with nice gloves, i don\'t have huge hands and they are always too small and so hard to manage. This was the same, i found the gloves terrible but they served there purpose. \nI wanted my greys covered and i only just coloured my hair 6weeks ago, So i followed the instructions and applied to my roots for 20minutes. I colour my hair quite often with different hair dyes and i found that the mixture was quite runny and hard to control. It was dripping alot. After the 20 minutes i then applied the rest of the mixture to the remainder of my hair and left for a further 10min. I did like how it didn\'t have a really strong \'hair dye\' smell to it, and sometimes they can irritate my scalp but this didn\'t at all. After time was up, i rinsed it off on the shower and applied the shampoo. I love shampooing hair dye out its very satisfying, alot don\'t have a shampoo so i liked that. Nice shampoo aswell and smelt great. Rinsed that out, then applied the purple conditioner. The conditioner was so nice. I left it on for 5minutes then washed out. \nAfter drying my hair out was very soft and felt really nice, better than it usually does after washing my hair. It does not have that \'smell\' you get and almost feels like a salon job. The colour was a bit dark for me, but that\'s my fault. I had ash brown.\nOverall, i really liked this hair dye. The pros diffently outweigh the cons and i would diffently purchase again, but would go a lighter shade next time. Thank you for letting me review this product.
Tips: Just careful applying as it is very runny
At the tender age of 34 I have quite a significant amount of gray hairs so I was in dire need of covering this up. Lucky for me, I got picked for to try out the L'Oreal Paris Excellence Cool Creme, a hair dye I had not tried in the past.
The thing that I found different about this hair dye was the fact that there were was a anti brass hair mask included in the box which prevents the colour from going orangey over time.
The hair colour was easy to mix up, much like any standard box dye, it had a pleasant smell though and didn’t smell of strong chemicals as most hair dyes do.
I liked the purple shampoo, especially the fact that it came in a tube instead of a sachet. It made it a whole lot easier to open and use in the shower. Again the shampoo smelt good.
I loved that the dye didn’t stain my skin & scalp as I do find this happens often when I colour my hair especially the grays around the front of my head.
I did find though that some of the stubborn grays were left uncoloured which was a little annoying but nothing I can’t live with. I guess I will need to learn to embrace my gray hairs eventually!
I loved the ease of use and the professional look and feel of this product. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this for future use.
I dye my hair at home for touch-ups between salon visits. I used the colour Ash Brown and was pleasantly surprised at how vibrant the colour was and the conditioner left my hair super soft and manageable. Instructions were easy to follow and overall feel this is worth trying.
Tips: I use vaseline on my hair line to stop the dye from staining my forehead
I have been dying my hair for years and used different brands, among them L'Oreal. My hair is short and thick. I used 5.11 Ultra Light Brown. The final result pleases me as the colour is radiant, the hair is soft, and all the grey are covered.
The consistency of the colouring cream was thicker than other products I used. The comb applicator didn't work well in my hair . As usual with products containing hydrogen peroxide, the smell was strong and unpleasant.
After leaving the colouring cream for 30 minutes, I showered and used the caring, double action post-colour purple shampoo included in the package. It cleansed the scalp and hair, and rinsed nicely.
Afterwards, I applied the anti brass purple mask, also included in the package, for 5 minutes. I used a small amount that covered my hair.
I like how my hair looks nourished and shiny after the colouring. The 3 products work well together. I will definitely recommend the Excellence Cool Cream to my friends.
The packaging has a PAP logo for recycling. I do not know if the tubes can be recycled.
Tips: Don't let the product develop too long as the result will get darker.
This hair colour looks upmarket, the packaging is sleek and looks like they aren't skimping. Easy to follow instructions and a nice surprise to find both a shampoo & hair mask after care. The product itself is a good consistency, not too thin but not too thick and lathers easily. Really like the optional hair comb attachment which distributes the products those the bottom. Makes doing your own hair faster! Hair looks and feel shiny & soft after it has dried. The colour is dimensional though don't feel the name matched the colour. Only issue I had was with the gloves, they broke easily and my hands aren't all that big. Would try other colours though as the products are good quality.
Tips: Have spare gloves handy. Check the picture of the hair colour.
I found application of this product easier than most with the comb applicator and it did not stain my skin/scalp as much as some other hair dyes used in the past.
The dye was quite dark, almost black. I didn't mind the colour and I liked that it had cooler tones, with no hint of red like some other brunette hair colours.
Tips: If you have very long or thick hair you may be best to use two boxes.
Love the new formula it seems to have toned down my unwanted yellow tones that l had previously in my hair . My grey hair was toned and coloured nicely, and like the tone it left on my grey hair . It seemed to have enough product to cover my long hair , It's great to have the protective mask and purple shampoo to continue the great work. Great new product Thanks Beauty Review and Loreal
