I received this product as part of a Beauty Review trial.
The box is small, compact and sturdy - it would withstand knocking around in a drawer or a cupboard for a little while before using. As soon as I opened the box, I could smell a pleasant fragrance, similar to that of a shampoo or body wash. At first the smell didn't bother me, but after using the product, I was beginning to find it unpleasant - none of my other skin products have fragrance, and the smell of this cream didn't mingle well with my other scented body products.
The product is dispensed with a push down pump. Weird to use if you've not used them before, but simply take the clear cap off and push the top down to dispense enough cream for one application. I like this method, no excess cream wasted, seems more hygienic than an open jar that you stick fingers in, and I would think no chance of leaking if it was left on its side in a toiletry bag. I do wonder how much product is left in these containers when they are no longer dispensing, and how recyclable they are.
Instructions on the box suggested using it just 2 times in one week, then every other day the second. The first couple of times, although I felt a sensation when applying it, I didn't find it irritating. I've not used a retinol product before, so was unsure of what to expect. By the third time I used it, I was starting to feel burning on my skin the day after, when I applied my usual skin care products. But a day or two after that 3rd application, my skin was turning leathery, and in patches starting to weep. I've been using my regular products for several years now, so came to the conclusion it was a sensitivity to the retinol in the L'Oreal Paris product. I discontinued use of the Rivalift Laser cream, and also all of my regular skincare, except a light moisturiser in the morning, and even had to brave going to work with no makeup on after the weekend - eeeeeekkkk - as I was worried the patches of weeping skin would get infected.
I've used a lot of L'Oreal skin care over the years, and makeup also, with no reaction whatsoever. I had high hopes for this as my skin is starting to show signs of ageing. I did notice the few times I did use it, that my makeup the following day went on so nicely - seems like it did a great job of moisturising at night.
I may try it again soon, I'll let my skin settle for a few weeks, then try again. But right now, this product is not for me. It hasn't put me off using L'Oreal products in the future, but I will ensure I only test patch products containing retinol, before using them all over my face.
Unfortunately this burnt my skin. I had a toner and snail serum beneath but still felt burning sensation for 3 days. Had to stop using this. Not for me.
